Follow-up on today's coverage: for some inexplicable reason, Fox's coverage (at least on the Featured Group) seems to have implemented a "focus on the golfer's face" whilst actually missing the roll out of putts. Extremely annoying. Don't mind seeing a golfer's reaction subsequently, but I want to see the roll of the ball.

Considering they didn't do this yesterday, seems like a conscious decision by the producer: one which I find annoying.

I'd like to see Dustin Johnson pull it off. Patrick Reed has always seemed like a bitch to me.

It seems they got every mediocre 90s golfer on the announcing team. Faxon, Flesch, McGowan, Pavin...was Jeff Maggert not available?

that course looks like a toxic waste dump. the greens are also crazy fast and have such varying gradients. i cringe a lil bit whenever someone putts since it'll just keep rolling, sometimes way off the green.

Gary Player absolutely roasted Chambers yesterday on Morning Drive. Called it an embarrassment and said the guys that made the cut were happy to go home.

Spieth had a highly unusual putting day yesterday. Very rarely do you see him 3 putt multiple times and miss inside 5 feet when he's playing well. He's still tied for the lead after that struggle too so it bodes well for him today.

If it's him or DJ I'd be thrilled. We need an American to stop the foreign dominance of the Open recently.

I agree with this. Even though he picked up those 2 amazing birdies on the front 9, he seemed perplexed (just as everyone else was) when mis-reading some of his close putts. I think the fact he was able to maintain a co-lead status shows he's a stellar golfer though.

Why are the players roasting the course? Because it is a little different and a little challenging? Big deal.

I remember players roasting the US Open when it was at Pinehurst (last time and the time before that). Saying the greens were too fast, too sloppy, etc.....

Not every course is going to look like Augusta. The masters is a great tournament, but it gets old watching the same course over and over and over.

That's why I like the US Open and other tournaments. More variety and more challenge.

I don't think people are roasting the course as much as they are the greens. It's a legit complaint too, because putting is the most important aspect of golf.

You basically neuter the best putters and turn it into a game of luck when the ball is bouncing around everywhere. While the USGA does teeter the line sometimes and the players gripe, this one is justified imo. They deserve a better setup to decide a major championship.

I thought I wanted to play this course before the championship, but now having watched it I'd rather spend my money playing Pebble, Torrey, or the Bandon courses way before this track.

The enhanced audio around the players is kind of nice. It's a good thing Tiger is not out there saying god damnit for their sake.

Yeah they are definitely on a delay because my sound cuts out quite a bit right after a bad shot.

And is this exciting or what!?

I wish it was sudden death instead of an 18 hole playoff. (if it comes to that)

Geez man I feel horrible for Dustin Johnson.

He did a great job of being a good sport and smiling it off. But you know deep down it is killing him right now.

Especially after the time he choked away a playoff spot by grounding his club back in 2010.

Holly Sonders. She used to be the eye candy on the Golf Channel's morning show but I think she had to quit when it became public that she was sleeping her way to the top. Last I heard she was shackin up with Erik Kuselias.

So many things wrong with the end of this broadcast. FOX was hitting their stride in the last hour or so (still wasn't perfect), but how are you gonna vamp for 20 minutes and not show replays of what just happened? and not show Spieth's reaction of the DJ missing the putt to win or tie?

Pretty sure everyone is playing the same course. Speith didn't seem having a problem putting up with the tough conditions. Gary Player is nothing more than a guy that plays the next day next to the real pros divots at this point. I would rather a terrible course that keeps the guys guessing and scores high than greens that are funnels.

Yeah you think.... How many hours he spent doing blow rather than on a practice green. Yeah... How horrible do you feel now. There is no such thing as a part time pro.

You would rather play the US Open on a terrible course? Ok.

Your posts read like a golfer, so I'm confused why you wouldn't understand player frustration putting on garbage greens at any point. They just want an opportunity to be rewarded for good putts. There's nothing worse in golf than some shit greens.

DJ should have hit that putt 18 inches by if he missed it....that thing barely made it to the cup. If you have a chance to get into Playoff, you hit that shit firm.

It was uphill too so definitely no reason to not firm it in there.

Bottom line is he shouldn't have been in that spot anyway. At worst he should have had a tap-in from a 12 footer to win the tourney. A bad first putt was his downfall.

Tiger said it was the softest he's ever seen it or something to that accord. If you can play well with your irons and short game, its an easy course.

Rickie went HAM birdieing 3 of the last 4 and knocking it stiff on 18 to beat Kuchar in the Scottish. Then you got Spieth down 4 on the back at one point and winning in a playoff. The young Americans are beginning to assert their dominance this season.

Bring on the Open Championship. I just hope nobody runs away with it.

So the course is soft, and apparently they are expecting more rain and then the wind to pick up over the weekend.

I don't believe we see guys playing the ball on the ground nearly as much, and with the softness it becomes target golf off of the tee. That favors the big boys that bomb it off the tee fairly accurately more than anyone else in the field. Which coincidentally is one of the strongest parts of Rory's game. This course is set up perfectly for him and he can't even play.

I'm thinking guys like Stenson and DJ have to be licking their chops after seeing it in this shape. Just bang it out there 320 with no danger of it running away into a pot bunker after the first bounce.

That'll be interesting to watch. It certainly puts Speith at a disadvantage, since he is dominating with his short game right now. Conditions should definitely favor DJ and Fowler. Too bad Mcilroy isnt part of that group.

The wind is the only thing that can stop DJ..he's just loading up and hitting it as far as he can since they dont have to worry with wind and bunkers/hard grounds.

The British open is ridiculous. It's not as stupid as the US Open, which tries to make the course completely unplayable, but the fact that they put them out there in unplayable weather makes it almost as bad.
