http://www.dailydot.com/lifestyle/serial-killer-attack-killed-virginia/

A prostitute picked up her attacker's gun, after he put it down to stop her from beating him with a rake, and shot him with it.

If the serial killer didn't have a gun, she wouldn't have been able to grab it from him, and probably would be dad. The NRA takes this as an indication we need to give more serial killers guns.

I don't wanna be weird, but I'm not sure that guy was an actual serial killer.

I dunno. All of those details are really, really convenient.

They were in a rush, but because of the uptick in furor over police violence, the chief hold them to hold on loosely to all leads and proceed with caution. McCary, when caught, complained that "if i'd been the one, wouldn't you have gotten me sooner." The police told him "we're all caught up in you and your attempt to evade arrest. Now it's time to send you back where you belong."

We're up to 207 mass shootings in 2015.

If only more guns were available, perhaps the aggressors could have better defended themselves.

^Yea tailing someone home escalates the situation exponentially, what a dumb fuck. 1 in the chest, then 3 in the back...

Quote :
"TULSA, Okla. (CBS Houston) — An Oklahoma 16-year-old boy is in serious condition after he accidentally shot himself in the leg for the second time over the last three months, according to police.
Tulsa police found the teen injured from a single gunshot to his left leg around 3:25 a.m. Monday, as reported by Tulsa World. Officials say the victim was conscious but incoherent and suffered from a large amount of blood loss. A tourniquet was applied to stop the bleeding after police feared the teenager had severed an artery.
The victim was taken to St. John Medical Center in serious condition. Police said the “quick action” of the officer helped save the boy from bleeding to death. It is unknown where the victim accessed the gun.
Police note that this is the second time the teenager accidentally shot himself with a handgun. Three months ago, officers responded to the same residence after he suffered non-life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound to the leg."

Quote :
"An 11-year-old boy is facing first-degree murder charges after he allegedly shot and killed a child because she wouldn’t let him pet her puppy.

The horrifying story comes by way of White Pine, TN where the 11-year-old and his alleged victim, eight-year-old McKayla Dyer, lived next door to one another.

Dyer’s family says it’s not the first run-in McKayla had with the boy, whose name has been withheld from press reports.

“When we first moved to White Pine, the little boy was bullying McKayla,” her mother tells WKRN. “He was making fun of her, calling her names just being mean to her. I had to go the principal about him and he quit for a while.”

But cops say the last straw came when McKayla refused to let him play with her puppy. Via the Washington Post:

Each of the children had a puppy, the sheriff said. The 11-year-old “wanted to see the 8-year-old’s, and she said no, and then he went and retrieved a gun,” McCoig said.

The boy fired the 12-gauge shotgun from inside of his house, striking the girl as she stood in her yard, according to the sheriff. The gun, which was stored in a closet without locks, belonged to the boy’s father, McCoig said.
McKayla was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The 11-year-old is currently being held in a juvenile detention facility but, according to the Washington Post, the case could be transferred to adult criminal court."

maybe it's time that gun control activists start using imagery like dead ll year old girls with shotgun blasts to the chest to picket congress and others

If only Congress would pass gun control laws! If we made the kids father take more background checks... that would have stopped this 11-year from taking a dangerous assault-shotgun from an unlocked closet! When will people wake up?

well, they could draft and then introduce a bill that would set a federal standard for locking devices

fyi, all handguns are required in the US to be sold with a lock, i believe (at least any handguns i've bought in the last however many years came with one). i don't have kids so I don't use them, but there is legislation, at least for handguns.

according to this: http://smartgunlaws.org/safe-storage-gun-locks-policy-summary/, there are no current federal standards for gun storage/locking devices

state-by-state basis only

That's a bit confusing to me. On one hand it says:

Quote :
"There are no current federal standards for locking devices"

But it also says:

Quote :
"In October 2005, as part of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, Congress passed and the President signed into law legislation making it unlawful for any licensed importer, manufacturer or dealer to sell or transfer any handgun unless the transferee is provided with a secure gun storage or safety device."

I read that as there is a federal law that requires sales (from gun stores at least) to include a lock. But that there isn't a mandatory type of lock or whatever

it means that on one side of the transaction, a lock is required, but after the sale, it's not

so in a state without laws on the books for both sides of the transaction, you couldn't get in trouble for not having your gun locked up

I don't see any laws about requiring guns to be locked up. The article you posted is about including locks with guns sold from dealers.

ah ok. i guess when you said they could draft and propose a federal law for locking devices, i didn't realize you mean to require locking devices be used, since federal law does require them to at least be included. step in the right direction at least.

and of course the NRA has lobbied in states who are trying to propose a lock requirement on both sides of the transaction, because they are the most awful

Seems like a "requiring locks to be used" legislation would be extremely difficult to enforce. Sure, in a case like a shotgun being used by an 11 year old it's pretty cut and dry that it wasn't used, and regardless of the laws, the father should be liable. But does a single man or woman with no children in the house really need a lock? Let alone the obvious fact that someone would inevitable be killed in their home by an intruder because they couldn't unlock their self defense weapon before the robber shot and killed them.

unless you are a shut-in with no friends or family, there are plenty of scenarios in which a person without a kid would have a kid in their house.

this is why people keep their safes in their bedroom, and why people keep their gun in a table next to their bed. it's not like they have to solve a rubik's cube to unlock their gun.

Yeah, it's basically as easy as breathing to sleepily find and put a key in a padlock in the dark while an intruder stands over your bed with a gun aimed at you. Great point.
