I have to say I agree with most of face's predictions, although I don't know much about recruiting classes. I agree with UNC and UVA at the top. Assuming a mass exodus at Duke and our guys don't leave (Looking at you KW), I don't see anyone having a better roster than us but maybe UNC and that is debatable. Sixth would be severely underachieving.
Duke, ND, Louisville will make big drops. UNC/UVA/Miami return a lot. Cuse loses Christmas and has the NCAA trouble. The rest are not going to be good enough to compete for top 4.3/29/2015 10:46:18 PM |

I don't see Duke making a big drop. They may not be top 5 in th nation. But theyre gonna be top 4 in the ACC no matter what.
UNC is easily more talented than us. UVa will be up there again. Like I said, Duke's not dropping outta the top 4 or so any time soon. We certainly could have a chance to vie for that 2 day ACCT bye though. 3/29/2015 11:19:45 PM |

UNC needs to get some sanctions or Roy needs to make up a bullshit excuse and retire. Cause I hate when they don't have at least 1 or 2 NBA lottery potential guys who decide to go pro and end up convincing everybody to return. I mean I get it, they don't have to go to class, and they can run up in as many coed guts as they want since most of their competition is too busy with each other. But it's seriously about time for either some NCAA shit or Roy to just get too dadgum tired of these lousy media jackholes and call it quits or fake a back injury or whatever. 3/29/2015 11:33:40 PM |

Sanctions won't keep Cuse from being a top 15 team. Does it look like Duke is having trouble with 8 Schollys? 10 will be virtually undetectable. Cuse is reloading for real and thats the only reason they took the tournament ban this year. 3/29/2015 11:45:55 PM |

We were a lucky Anya bounce away from going out in the first round and this thread being about how we'll be in the bottom third of the conference next year. I expect us to finish somewhere 5th-8th ACC and a 7-10 tourney seed, but there are so many X-factors right now it's not worth speculating all that much.

We're going to ball out in the ACC next year.
Will be a fight between us, UNC, Duke, and UVa.
ND and Louisville will lose a lot and nobody else is poised to make a big jump. Some of the shittier teams will be better (Wake, VaTech, FSU)...so we have to worry more about losing "slip-up" games. But Duke won't be as dominant without Okafor and Winslow (and maybe Jones?), no matter who they bring in (also losing Cook is huge).
Don't see it happening, but would love for UNC to lose somebody. Maybe the NCAA will come down with something soon and Brice and Paige declare for the draft. Because if they keep everyone, they're going to be strong. Not top 5 dominant, but once Jackson and Berry started playing better and hitting threes, they became a lot more dangerous. 3/30/2015 10:51:51 AM |

Any chance that Rathan-Mayes declares?? He sat out last year, so he's basically a sophomore and he lit it the fuck up the 2nd half of the year. FSU had a good class coming in. I'm not worried about Syracuse...they're going to hobble in towards the end of the Boeheim era.
I'm worried about Duke's freshmen...but Jeter and Kennard aren't even close to Okafor, Winslow, and Jones. They're going to be a strictly three point shooting team next year and will get dominated down low. But hey...at least Jefferson will get to start his entire senior year.
Louisville does have some dudes coming in next year, but they won't be able to replace Dozier, Harrell, and Blackshear.
I'd be disappointed if we didn't get a first two rounds ACC tourney bye. 3/30/2015 12:25:15 PM |

Maybe it's just my reluctance to jump completely on the bandwagon, but I disagree. I think we're probably a top 5 or so team next year in the ACC. And I do think finishing top 4 is realistic. I just wouldn't go so far as to say finishing anywhere below 4th would be a huge disappointment. But maybe I'm just tempering my expectations out of habit.3/30/2015 3:34:51 PM |

This is extremely shallow scratch the surface analysis from someone who ONLY posts negative things about Syracuse. Its effective with people who know very littler because you make good points. The problem is, you only point out the worst possible points and don't apply them in the right context. I even saw you post some tidbit about how UCONN should have been in the ACC over Syracuse. Ridiculous....
Back to the topic.

There are two stories in this post.
Syracuse was unbeaten in ACC play before losing Mccullogh for the year. No one in this thread has mentioned that injury when talking about Syracuse. Thats a pretty big omission to any analysis of their season. Dajuan Coleman also missed the ACC season. Recruiting rankings tell you about overall ability but do not incorporate how that ability corresponds to what each college team does. Syracuse needs length and athleticism to be effective at their zone. They are getting their most athletic player back as well as 5 other long or athletic players who are perfectly suited to play their zone. That will make a huge difference.
Even selectively focusing on Cat and Abu in the last part of the season. What are they going to do over the summer that will keep our team from getting blown out by a team like BC which was a game that took place after our big improvement? Every player in the country has the chance to improve so why just focus on these two? Our problems aren't about talent anyway. Hell, we won most/half of our games against teams that had better players. You can't get a top 4 seed unless you curbstomp the weaker teams on your schedule.
I'm not saying We won't finish ahead of Cuse, but the idea that we have a top 4 birthright is crazy when there are 7 other teams who have high potential to be good next year
(and i'll base my predictions off history. history shows that those 7 coaches are not very likely to disappoint when they have rosters that are capable.) [Edited on March 30, 2015 at 4:53 PM. Reason : fox news style selective journalism]

And UCONN should have been in over Syracuse (not UL) but I don't know that I've ever said that on here (maybe? I get drunk from time to time). Pitt? Maybe...

They have a history of doing well with 4 star recruits. None of these guys were ranked very high in their class. They were all 4 star studs.
Jerami Grant? Waiters? Christmas? MCW? Fair?
Thats just how he recruits. Please trust the several years of data over a few good/bad games.
Lets say they'll never be as good as abu or cat but i'm pretty confident they will offset the improvement of abu and cat from now till november. Mccullugh is still a proven double double guy who is essentially being added to the team next year.

Christmas was a 5* and Grant was a top 35 recruit. The top forty or so bust at a far lower rate than those near the bottom of the top 100... Of course every school has big time busts like Fab Melo though..
This is pointless. I'm almost always right when it comes to Syracuse and Boeheim year after year. They'll print up their Nov/Dec national title shirts like always and be disappointed come March. Sorry...
^ stop it. Duke, UNC, UL, UVA and Syracuse all had better rosters top to bottom coming in... Though I rated UVA better solely because of experience. Only Duke like young talent will overcome experience and we didn't have that.

Notable player rankings
Grant- 64 MKW- 29 Waiters- 29 Christmas- 27 Fair- 94
2015 class rankings
Richardson- 31 Lydon- 66 Diagne- 69 Howard-82
Even if only half of these guys are Freshman CJ Fair level, which statistics suggest as a worse case scenario, then Cuse will be very good this year. Boeheim believes this, which is why he punted the tournament away this year to make sure he has the chance to win it all with the good guys he has coming in.
If you argue with math, you will lose

If he had any credibility left, I think 'ol Caulton Tudor lost it when he failed to mention us losing Turner and instead said we may suffer the absence of Desmond Lee.
UNC is easily #1 in ACC and top 5 nationally if they don't lose anyone to NBA or transfers. I don't see Brogdan or Anderson leaving UVa so I think they are ahead of us. It's hard to predict us ahead of Duke just based on history and the fact they have a pretty decent coach there. I could see us being predicted 4th preseason but there's going to be a lot of talent at Louisville, FSU, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Miami.
And our conference slate looks pretty tough. I predict us 10-8, around 6th in conference and again in the 7-10 range in the NCAAs.3/30/2015 9:00:49 PM |
