Thought it was pretty good!
Seems like marvel movies are starting to feel the same. Maybe they need to give directors more freedom to put their own style on things. Or maybe at least once the characters are established 7/20/2015 10:23:33 AM |

^Most of the villains (excluding Loki and maybe Red Skull) are pretty one-dimensional and I can see how that would cause something like this. You could tell that the bald guy was gonna be the villain the second it showed him just from his general appearance, but this is based upon a comic book so I didn't really have any issue with it. 7/20/2015 10:30:11 AM |

I think they've been doing a pretty good job of making their various franchises feel unique, but similar enough that they feel like they belong in the same universe. This was a heist movie, Cap 2 was an espionage thriller, GoTG space opera. I was just happy to see that this came out on top of the weekend box office, I was worried that this could be the a dud with the non fanboy audiences 7/20/2015 10:30:21 AM |

When we start getting 3-4 superhero movies a year, when do people get burned out of this era in film? That may also be what I am feeling with Ant Man. Just more of the same.

^^ that's why movies like cap 2 and ant-man and guardians of the galaxy are so important (in regards to keeping things fresh).
yeah, they're all comic book movies, but they're genre films, first and foremost. cap 2 is a spy movie, ant-man is a heist movie, guardians is a space opera.
people will only get comic book movie fatigue if the movies don't have anything else to offer. 7/20/2015 4:58:43 PM |

must be coincidence, I've never heard of, or listened to that pod cast. I do read io9 everyday though, and they frequently have quotes from Kevin Fiege, and his like, where they discuss such things. 7/20/2015 5:30:23 PM |

^^ That's a point that Kevin Feige (Head of Marvel Studios) has made before, that he wants every movie to feel like a different genre. It's certainly not something something that was originally conceived on some podcast. He also said he wants Spider-Man to feel like a John Hughes film.
I've heard of Shmoes Know because I listen to AMC/Collider movie talk frequently and some of the regular panelists are on that podcast too, but I've never listened to it before, and I"ve heard (and made) that point about Marvel movies often.

Thought it was awesome, but I have some questions.
SPOILERS
how did cross get into the yellow jacket suit? I know he took a vial of the shrink juice, but did he just drink it or what? Also, what did hope mean about the stuff affecting his brain? When did he encounter it? And finally, wtf was Bucky stuck in?
END SPOILERS 7/20/2015 10:14:47 PM |
Wraith All American 27257 Posts user info edit post |
^Also, how did all of them get those suits on so quickly!!?? When he was in the jail cell he had seriously 5 seconds to put the entire suit on. Then on the helicopter, Cross put the Yellowjacket suit on between the time of Ant-Man going out the side then climbing back in (maybe 8 seconds at most?). I can't even put shorts/t-shirt/shoes on that fast.
It looked to me like Bucky's arm was stuck in some kind of vice grip or maybe a hydraulic press of some kind? I don't think it was really important what he was stuck in, mostly that he couldn't get out of it. So either Cap and Falcon were able to capture him (doesn't seem likely since he was kind of a good guy at the end of The Winter Soldier) or maybe he fought someone else and they captured him there, but Cap and Falcon came to his rescue. 7/21/2015 9:16:10 AM |

I've never heard of that either, but what he said up there also closely mirrors what was said on the Hollywood Prospectus podcast off of grantland's network. people who get paid to cover this stuff for a living often make the same deductions.7/21/2015 10:08:37 AM |

Saw it over the weekend and thought it was really good. Now I really want to see a movie where Paul Rudd and Chris Pratt exchange quips.
The CGI'd young Michael Douglas was pretty on point, even my girlfriend was amazed.
I, too, was a little perplexed at how easily those suits got put on. 7/27/2015 7:33:28 AM |

I find the Ant-Man movies to be so much more creative and to contain a much wider representation of human emotion. I also like localized stories a lot better than full-scale universal ones, where each individual character has more to do and actual purpose to the plot. 7/9/2018 3:48:26 PM |
Wraith All American 27257 Posts user info edit post |
^Human emotion prob tied to Scott Lang having a kid which is his primary reason for trying to stay out of trouble. Aside from Hawkeye (who doesn't have his own movies), none of the other heroes in the MCU have their own children. 7/10/2018 8:45:56 AM |

Yep. Better than infinity war. Both Ant Man movies are in the top five marvel studios movies made. absolutely fantastically enjoyable to watch. My only complaint about this new one was there was very little focus on/use of ants in general. 7/11/2018 9:18:33 AM |

So what about the whole molecular integrity thing. If you shrank the distance between molecules, wouldn't the weight of everything be the same? Did they ever explain that away and describe how they can carry the weight of an entire building on rollers?
We saw this in Civil War also, when they were throwing around mini-trucks.

I still don't see how tiny Ant Man and tiny Wasp can kick the crap out of people, when at the same time they can put a building on rollers and roll it around.
Oh and that ending, while kinda seeing it coming, did suck. 10/8/2018 4:21:25 PM |

They can do that because it's a fucking comic book movie. Same reason that people in the same universe can fly and shoot laser beams out of their eyes and shit. 10/8/2018 4:41:56 PM |

Whoa whoa whoa, let’s slow down there. Sure some people shoot beams out of their hands, maybe a chest plate, and out of the occasional forehead gem, but I don’t recall anyone in this universe ever shooting beams out of their eyes, that would just be ridiculous. This isn’t some shitty Fox X-Men universe.10/9/2018 9:52:42 AM |

Ok fine, the X-Men aren't in the MCU - yet. But there is a talking space raccoon.
But my point is still valid that expecting comic book movies to make scientific sense is just silly. 10/9/2018 10:28:42 AM |
