E Man...do you think part of that is the mentality of the player that commits to State? Like, could it be the staff selling a player on "come here, get immediate PT and be the go to guy" vs a team like UNC selling a player on "come here be part of a championship team". And then guys aren't patient to wait their turn and transfer from State? Whereas at UNC they are willing to be patient since they committed to UNC, for example, in part for the team's overall success. Obviously part of it is just the nature of the game today...I think I read where something like 1/3 or more of players transfer before graduating. But being a program that, of late, has kinda out-recruited our on-court success...could it be that when we land some of those higher rated players it's because they come here and wanna contribute right away instead of waiting (like they would be doing at a higher level program).

Completely spitballing there, and I don't entirely agree with E Man on this. TJW didn't make the wrong decision to go pro. Lacey's decision to go pro is one where I can see both sides of the argument and don't blame him at all for leaving. A guy like Lewis, for example...if he wanted to start at PG, he wasn't gonna do that here. So he transferred and is now starting for a top 25 team.

I think another factor is that Gott likes 7-8 man rotations...not 10 man rotations. So it's harder to fill out recruiting classes and expect those guys to stay 3+ years when he's playing 8 guys a night at the most.

It would be nice to have more stability on the roster from year to year

I think you hit it on the head but I hope you are wrong because our goals are supposed to be to win championships and if that doesn't match whats being pitched to the players, its a problem. We don't want to be a stepping stone program for players to either go to the nba or transfer to a real program. I'd rather develop 3 star players for 4 years (like the martin twins) than deal with this sort of inconsistency.

TJW never would have had the stock to leave if Leslie and Brown were on the team that year (unless we won a championship). I know those weren't Gott's players so its understandable if they had different expectations but them staying for a senior year most likely means TJW was on last years team and we are contending for championships in each of those two years.

If a few more players were on this team, we would have a chance at keeping cat another year but now he's a lock to leave. Having more than one great player is really the only way to have a realistic shot at a championship.

it's interesting because we get a class like harrow, brown, leslie or lewis, purvis, tjw and those guys all talk about how they wanna come play together and be part of something special. and we appeared to be on the verge of that again with dennis smith and bam in 2016. so that certainly seems to be the staff selling those guys on coming in together and helping build a championship team/program. but it certainly hasn't played out that way...whether it's due to egos, players just not living up to hype (harrow), or whatever.

i just can't wrap my mind around how poorly our bigs play sometimes, the inconsistency. Wake's Thomas seems like a pretty solid player, but we should have been able to go toe to toe with him and I thought we should be able to outclass the rest of their interior (that lurch looking Greek dude pulling down put backs are you fucking kidding me?)

Youth just isn't an excuse for the bigs to play this poorly anymore IMO.

^^^^yea he's good, and he's gonna get points, but I still expect our bigs to play with dudes of his caliber, maybe they did better than what I saw (I listened to 2/3 of this game on the radio so what I saw they were all already in foul trouble). We just need to generate more in the paint if we wanna be successful and Wake is hardly the best interior team we are gonna play the rest of the season.

I just wish we could show the intensity that they had trying for the late push at the beginning of the game. We seem to have put it together trying to come back for both Wake and Louisville but it was just too late. That could be those teams just easing up with a large lead, but it's frustrating to see it being done, just when it's too late.
