Reveal in 3 hours!

Until then, here is a slideshow with the history of the mid-engined Corvette, which stretches back many many decades, albeit, all prototypes:

OK, I thought it was on the 17th, but it is the 18th. 18 more hours to go!

So, why is it going to suck? I mean I don't know, it might not to be everyone's tastes in terms of looks, but it will perform better than the front-engined Corvette, which is already a world-class performer.

It's not gonna suck. If there's one thing you can always count on with Chevy its their performance bang for the buck. Styling is a bit more of a question mark, though outside of the recent Camaro fascia revisions I've usually been a fan.

From everything that's being put out, it handles like the highest dollar super cars of the World.

Record breaking engineering when these things start getting tuned and on the market.

The price though is not bad given what you're getting.

Corvette could have just outdid itself with this car.

Color options and factory styling is what i am excited to see.

495 hp
0-60 in < 3 sec (cf. 2.8 sec for the 755 hp C7 ZR1!!!)
$70K

Just ended.

Wow, it will start at "under $60,000"!!!

Other than Nissan GT-R, all other supercars that can do 0-60 mph in < 3 sec cost well over $100K (or in the millions).

I can't even imagine what the Z06 and ZR1 versions (or whatever they will be called) will do!

I predict some version will set records on some of the famous tracks around the world, including at the Nurburgring.

I am excited for the big step in this evolution of the model. A lot of people are sour over it, for reasons I think are just petty.

Looking forward to giving the European cars some competition for sure.

Don't love the transition of the roof into the rear quarter, at least not in pics and video.

That center console is awful.

I think the C7 looks better. The C8 design is overwrought and reminds me of a 360 Modena (which is my least-favorite Ferrari design within the last 30 years)

and I still hate the tail lights

I hate the square tail lights, b/c it's the reason they made the exhaust tips square. That I really hate. But i understand why you wouldn't do one without the other.

yeah the squished camaro rear doesn't look right on the back of the car.

It doesn't seem to fit any of the rest of the car.

to me... it looks like a 360 nose as reimagined by lambo attached to a mclaren f1 long tail profile as re imagined by lambo, with a camaro rear... squished to fit.

I was cool with the C7's rear. Even the lights.

But this, ugh, not great. Not dealbreaker bad, but damn - its a miss.

pardon me while i sound like a designer for a bit.

It doesn't have the same design language as the rest of the car.

It just looks out of place.

the bumperless renders of turbo C8s look so much better than the real rear end.

and yes this is fake AF because there is a trunk big enough for 2 sets of golf clubs between the transaxle and bumper.

I realize the render above is just that, but is has the engine so far passed the assend of the wheels it may as well be in Porsche over the top rear-engine territory.

^what exactly are you looking at? Because if you look at the trunk photo posted literally one post above yours, you can clearly see the entire engine situated IN FRONT of the rear strut towers. So, no that's not really an accurate statement.

Is the transmission hanging off the rear end behind the wheel centerpoint? Oh absolutely.

558 hp @ the wheels? WTH.

https://www.motor1.com/news/377615/chevy-corvette-dyno-test

If true, at least that does explain how a 495 hp car can do 0-60 mph in < 3 sec.

Will be interesting to see production cars dyno results off the lot. Personally, I think GM got caught juicing a tester, but we will see.

^&^^ Not really. There's something funky going on with the dyno - probably related to the transmission. That's not a GM "ringer" engine. Not really easily to take a stock 6.2 naturally aspirated engine and adding almost 200 hp without it being obvious from driving and inspecting the car.

The quarter mile trap speed is perfectly in line with this car's rated flywheel 495 hp. The low elapsed time is explained by sticky tires, mid-engine weight distribution, and a dual clutch transmission. THAT is what explains the car's low 0-60 time, not some magical ringer engine.

"Even Chevy's engineers said they were surprised by the C8 Corvette's performance.

Official info now confirms that the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe with the Z51 Package hits 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 2.9 seconds and covers the quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds at 121 mph (195 kph). Even without the Z51 pack, the new 'Vette reaches 60 in 3.0 seconds and speeds through the quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds at 123 mph (198 kph) thanks to its more slippery body.

The automaker touts that the new Corvette Stingray coupe is the quickest base model in the vehicle's long history. "The performance of the 2020 Stingray has far exceeded our expectations," Alex MacDonald, Chevrolet vehicle performance manager, said in the announcement of the performance figures."

The ZR1 will build on the Z06's all-new engine with a performance- (not fuel economy-) oriented hybrid system to fill in torque gaps and increase total output to an even 900 hp."

No wonder a mid-engined supercar costs $59K... because it doesn't!

It costs $80K.

GM Loses Money On Every 2020 Corvette Under $80,000
https://www.motor1.com/news/385310/gm-loses-on-base-corvette

"It seems that the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette's starting price of under $60,000 was just too good to be true. No, not for us, but for GM, and they're totally okay with that. A source from GM has talked to Motor Trend about an interesting revelation; GM will continue to lose money on every all-new Chevrolet Corvette they sell under $80,000. The source also confirmed that the price of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette would rise by 2021, with rumored additional increases in the following years. But would it be high enough to cover the costs in the long run?"

Yeah, honestly I don't believe that.

Exactly what makes it more expensive to build than the C7? Hardly anything.

^ All the development dollars have to be spread over the product... isn't that how it works? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Like the Veyron, which VW said came to like 4-5 million each but were sold for 1.5 - 2 million each, so they lost money on each one. It didn't take 4-5 million to make each one, but that's the figure you get by dividing all the billions of development dollars by the 450 cars they made.

Chevy wasn't losing tons of money when they switched from the C4 to the C5. And the development changes going from C7 to C8 aren't much different than that comparison.

I absolutely don't believe it.... sales ploy.

These things are going to sell, and GM's going to make their money - no doubt about it. If it were super low production and 'hand built' I could believe the statement.

^^^I wouldn't say that the Grand Sport will be anything like an American NSX. It's gonna be a pretty light hybrid package and will still remain RWD. (unless I completely misread its description).

Z06 is gonna be badass - glad it's returning to its roots.
