I'm still down for a tDub lunch and happy to give a few rides in my little go cart. I can only take 2 folks with me at a time as I leave my son's car seat in the back.

I want it to be totaled. We'll see how the fight with the other drivers insurance plays out.

I think there might be services that offer pricing/valuation for cars to help with diminished value claims.

I find out Friday if they want to try to fix it or total it. I am lucky the other lady has good insurance. If they restore it, it has to be done to pre-wreck condition and I'll get compensated for diminished value. If they total it, they will have an independent appraiser appraise my car and I'll likely hire my own to value it as well. With this being 1 of 10, they can't just use NADA value, as both NADA and KBB don't even allow you to pick options that this car came stock with, let alone the upgrades. Again, if they restore it, it has to have the same upgrades as before.

Caliber will only do the body work and paint. Apparently, Mercedes Benz does all the restoration and there are no after market parts available. I think the body is fine (no frame), but they'll put it on the frame machine to measure it. The $Texas will be in in the suspension and steering that was destroyed - it seems from first glance (without the breakdown having occured yet), that the engine was unharmed and airbags didn't deploy.

I'm on the fence as to whether I want it back and get diminished value or get compensated for what it is worth or what it would take to replace a 1 of 10 car. This will play into their decision to total it or not and determine what I will have next if I don't get this beauty back.

That doesn't look like enough to total out a car valued at over $60,000.

At a minimum, they'll have to replace the suspension and steering system. I'm unsure if the engine was hurt or not, as there were no fluids leaking, but the labor and parts will be $Texas from insurance. They also have to bake in diminished value in calculating the repairs, as I'll seek compensation for the delta in value post wreck.

^^yeah I understand that. But those aren't exactly high dollar components, in comparison to plenty of other items on your car.

Either way I don't blame you for not really wanting to deal with a repaired car. Most auto enthusiasts don't.

I called Caliber again today to get an update...still 50/50 as to whether or not it will get totaled. They have to restore it to pre-accident condition if they go that route and they are having a hard time finding parts. Even the grill is hard to find as it was custom for this edition and not a normal AMG grill...hoping to get clarity by the end of the week as to whether or not I should be car shopping.

Look like Continental DWS all seasons.
A pretty nice all season.
I've had 3 sets of them.

I've had extreme contacts on my lexus, infiniti and then this. I used this as my daily driver and wanted something reliable in the rain, so I was very happy with those tires. I could have gotten something more "sporty", but didn't have the need, as the car handled beautifully the short time I had it.

Good eyes to recognize the tires on the car.

Definitely had the DWS on my IS250 back in the day. I didn't care for the super soft side walls. Side wall flex was a problem. However, it was an excellent DD all season tire. NEVER had issues in our 3" snow storms in NC, and the grip was always there (dry or wet). Excellent tire, just expect some sponginess when cornering...

So...tDub...let's do a poll.

If pricing was roughly equal, would you:

1 - buy the same model 2012 CLS 63 (performance center edition) with matte finish and black it all out and tune it

2 - buy a 2014 S63 and tune it

My dilemma - the CLS PCE is a more "sexy" car and marginally better performance due to it being 700 pounds lighter. The S would likely hold its value more, as it was a more expensive car to begin with and would be 2 years newer. I think both would be very sporty with close to 650-700 hp, but I'm on the fence between sexy/image (CLS) and more luxury/practical (S).

^^^ for that kind of money i'd be looking at more focused and land yachty cars. of the 2, the s class looks way better.

of the mb fam, i think the e63 is the best looking if the c63 is off the table

The E63 was pretty similar to my CLS63. The insides are identical. I think that is more of a sleeper sports car, but doesn't have the sex appeal. If I go that route, it will be another CLS 63.

It is around $1,100 to powder coat the rims, $350 to do the exhaust and about $900 to vinyl over all the chrome accents (windows, back of trunk, grilll, top and wells of door handles.

I would not normally black out a car, you are correct, however, if I got a matte finish one like I had, I think you are obligated to, as it is sexy as all knows. Decisions decisions....

powder coating your wheels should cost close to half that price unless that price includes buying cheap wheels and tires to use while they are doing your wheels

I had multiple shops in the area quote me $450 to blast and re-coat my old wheels a few months ago.

I'd bet your vinyl estimate is high too. Can you not buy factory black accents for those cars?

What are you doing to the exhaust?

I had called DreamWorks and got quotes. I'm sure they are a little higher due to brand name, but there is also a convenience factor for a one stop shop where everything can happen simultaneously
