^those were dumb all along though. even if smith played an average game last night, he was gonna be drafted top 10 at worst no matter what. at no point in time was he ever playing himself into late first round. pure idiocy. 1/24/2017 12:30:36 PM |

Very fun to watch against Duke. Only two things are keep practicing free throws, and don't drop so low in the paint when you are playing 2-3 zone. Seems like he is trying to help double down low but sometimes doesn't get back to the three point line in time. Other than that, keep up the good play. 1/26/2017 8:54:40 PM |

DSJ is like that dude at the Y that is clearly the best player there so when you have the first pick you definitely take him. Then when the game starts he becomes your entire offense and your team loses but he puts up a bunch of highlight reel plays and everyone watching it enjoys. Then after the game the next run starts up and none of your team gets picked since you all lost but he gets picked up immediately to play in the next game.
He's going to be good in the NBA, and we really don't have enough good players in the NBA, so I'm fine with him going top 5 and killing it in the future. 2/10/2017 8:27:09 AM |

that dude in your scenario doesn't have a coach
which kind of makes it an apt comparison, but not really 2/10/2017 9:48:56 AM |

Also, nobody takes charges or plays real defense at the Y. So again, very apt comparison. 2/10/2017 10:05:09 AM |

Oh what could have been... If we had a competent coaching staff and even an average defense, we would get to watch this guy go all kemba walker in the tourney. Would have been beautiful. 2/16/2017 9:13:41 AM |
robster All American 3545 Posts user info edit post |
Wish he was coming back for one more year, with a different coach.
Coaching changes are hard to analyze, but if you could compare the same players under different leadership, you would get a real feel for competency.
I think it comes down to Gottfried being really bad at: coaching good defense developing players coaching leadership
The rest I think is just the result of those 3 things. Imagine: Anya at 270 playing 28 minutes a game at full speed Abu with better touch around the rim/ability to finish Smith with a desire to lead with a positive attitude Consistency at the foul line
Any 2 of those 4 things would have led to closer games, and 5 more wins. That would have been enough to keep his job and likely make the tourney.
Free throws alone counted for 2 ACC games at the very l least.
Thanks for choosing NC State, Dennis! Looking forward to seeing you kill it at the next level. Plz to wipe the whiny attitude off your face and grow up a bit though.... 2/16/2017 5:39:26 PM |

I've said it before but there is zero reason that Anya couldn't have easily been a poor man's Meeks. They came out of high school rated about the same--both overweight with Kennedy having a more polished offensive game and Anya having a better defensive game. Kennedy slimmed down and got better. Anya got fat and is about the same skill as he was as a freshman. 2/16/2017 7:07:43 PM |

I'll never understand that. How can you turn down potentially making millions so you can get a fourth helping at Case dining hall? If I'm Anya and it was that hard to not eat, I would have gotten a loan and gotten Lap Band surgery or something. 2/16/2017 7:33:28 PM |

Eh, maybe not, but he has just about played himself out of being able to make a career of it in Europe or china. That's not NBA $$, but it's nothing to sneeze at.2/24/2017 9:49:54 AM |

Yeah, and Europe is much cooler than the US. Trust me. Been living here for going on 4 years and have no regrets.
The wage normalization does suck though. As a lead scientist, my starting salary was the same as a project manager in the work shop.

He was pretty good at steals, at one point he led the conference. Not sure if he wound up the leader but that is probably why he got a vote. He gambled a lot to get steals which sometimes left his guy wide open. 3/5/2017 5:53:47 PM |
