"Easy explanation. It was the Dennis smith jr show on offense."

In that he wasn't getting others involved, or that the others were just sucking?

I don't understand why Dorn continues to play so little. He was the best player the first month of the year when we weren't a complete joke.

Gott just has a raging boner for Mav I guess

Anyone who actually watched the game and blames this loss on Dennis Smith is a fucking moron. He actually played decent defense. NO ONE ELSE DID.

We have a 7-footer that only averages 0.5 blocks per game. Charmin soft.

I didn't blame the loss on dsj. I do think he tried to go solo on offense too often but the guy had 31 on a night when every one else no-showed. I wouldn't say his defense was good though.

I mean... mav went for 17 on 44% shooting

His defense is miserable but that's basically par for the teams course. Everyone on this team is horrific on defense, even BJ who was -only- good at "defense" or blocked shots, sucks at defense this year. I get not liking mav, but I doubt this game is the perfect game to use as an "I hate mav" example

DSJ leads the acc in assists with 6.2 and went for 6 this game, with 8 boards and 31 pts.

Not a thing about this game was his fault

Besides coaching, our bigs are the major problem. Super soft, don't help on d, no boxing out, etc...

Only thing I really put on Mav is trying to drive to the basket late in the game instead of shooting the deep ball. But we shouldn't have been in that position in the first place.

Furthermore, its not Mav's fault the only play we run for him is a corner 3 that every fan, opposing coach and player know is coming.

But what only Gottfried knows is that you aren't allowed to defend against the 3. I think its one of those unwritten rules.

Smith Jr. Is our only good player, that is the first problem. I think Rowan got worse at driving over the offseason. He was never super fast but the extra height seems to have slowed him down and made him clumsier with the ball. And Henderson is following in Turner's footsteps of being our three point shooter who is totally lost on defense and either loses his man or lets him drive right to the basket.

Not true. Anya played some damn good defense yesterday. And he was yelling at the idiot wings who weren't rotating on defense and leaving guys wide open for threes.

You must be watching a different game than me. I've never thought Anya was a beast defensively even in better years. Whatever he brings to the table with blocks is negated by the liability he is on transition and help D because of his size.

Now he may have a a fire that others don't (I didn't notice it), but I don't know that there are any bright spots on our defense and if there are it definitely isn't with any of our bigs.

He kept their best player from being a factor in the game. His shit ass conditioning keeps him from being good, but you shouldn't knock him yesterday. He could have been a great defensive player on a team that gave half a shit at defense. He's got such quick hands for a big and he actually knows where people are supposed to be.

Our defensive problems are on the perimeter. Yesterday, Rowan and Abu were especially awful. They let a couple of scrubs have career days by being completely out of position and not rotating like they should.

How hard is it to really rotate on defense anyway? I feel like my pickup games in college had better defensive rotations off screens and what not than us. Maybe we need to just play some shit match up zone as it can't be worse than whatever the hell we try to do now.

Or implement a press. We have the bodies to run a press, maybe not the knowledge, but the athletes. Try something, anything dammit.
