Yeah treating 3 picks to move up one spot was ridiculous. Would be funny if it comes out that the 49ers were going to draft Thomas regardless. 4/28/2017 7:26:08 AM |

They were. The Bears traded up so no one else would trade in front of them. 4/28/2017 7:36:57 AM |

Yeah SF definitely let it out they were looking at Trubisky before the draft for a reason, and it was strictly to force a trade. Great move by Lynch and Co. Hard to argue with their draft so far. 4/28/2017 8:41:57 AM |

Just saw an article on ESPN this morning where Lynch was quoted as saying they got 2 of the top 3 on their board last night (Thomas and Foster, Garrett obviously #1) and that they would have taken Foster at 3 of the Bears had picked Thomas instead of Trubisky.
So yeah, the Bears totally got played by a rookie GM. 4/28/2017 9:22:03 AM |

The short and obvious answer is that the Bears were convinced (A) that Trubisky is a franchise quarterback and (B) that some other team was going to trade with the 49ers and take him if they didn't. That's the only way it makes sense to trade four picks for a guy who started 13 college games and lost to Duke and North Carolina State in two of them. Trubisky needs to be Eli Manning or better to justify this move, which means he needs to unseat Bears free-agent signee Mike Glennon before too long. Meantime, I know the draft is about more than one year, but it's not as if Chicago's roster couldn't have used help elsewhere with those extra mid-round picks. No pressure, Mitch." |

Yeah I wasn't thinking money specifically, more that you have to introduce two QBs into a new system, get them both reps with the 1st team, 2 QBs means having none etc.
Obviously Glennon has been in the league a while but it will still be hard to develop with his new teammates in camp if they are trying to get a rookie reps.
Regardless neither is going to have much to work with because the Bears got rid of picks they could have used for players to support them one way or the other.
