I thought it was excellent, very much enjoyed it. Skarsgard did an excellent job as pennywise. His lazy eye made it super creepy

Is it actually tense/scary? I'm a big horror movie fan, which unfortunately has desensitized me to most movies. I'm always looking for something that is legit scary.

I wouldn't say scary, especially since most of us have already seen IT the mini series. There are some tense moments, but also surprisingly a lot of comedy mixed in with the kids.

I did not like it.

The effects, screenplay/filming and sets were well done.

The storyline was terrible.

They gave barely any backstory, didn't really develop any characters minus 2-3...

I thought it was stupid. No rhyme or reason why events unfolded the way they did...and then they just meet in a field after without telling anyone any details and make a blood pact where they didnt even touch blood to blood.

I give it a 5/10 stars.

It was more tense than scary. They should have gone more into Pennywise.

That's why I was disappointed when I heard it was going to be just the kids part of the movie and not flashing back and forth like the miniseries. You really got to know the characters and how each of them were affected by the experience.

Not knowing the clown's real nature and purpose should make him scarier. The villain is always less threatening once you know his purpose.

?? They grasped bloody hands in a circle.

I am fine with this being a part 1 with the kids and then having a part II with adults. Seeing how the original is a 4 hour tv mini-series, I wouldn't want them to cram the whole story into 1 movie.

I really enjoyed it even if I didn't involve any parts scary. I love Its portryal; the drooling and vocal tics were unsettling. The script was decent and parts were hilarious. "THESE ARE GAZEBOS" slayed me. I think a lot of King moves from drama to humor to horror, so that worked for me but YMMV.

A lot of the character didn't feel developed beyond a single defining trait.

Decided to watch the original IT last night. My god is it dated. Everyone's hair/clothing is just ridiculous. It's interesting though because if you watch something like Back to the Future or Ferris Bueller's Day Off which are clearly very very 80's, they just don't seem dated at all. Tim Curry's performance was excellent but it wasn't nearly as scary as this new one. Tim Curry actually performed a lot more of a comedic role.

(i think some of that "dated" look is due to the fact that it was a made-for-tv production)

I thought it was pretty damn good, the direct of photography was amazing. Closer to the book, but the only gripe I have is the splitting the movies into kids and adults, the flashbacks worked really well in the book and even the miniseries.

It's probably been 15 years since I read it, but I thought it was great at the time. Lots of stuff didn't make it to the movie (like most adaptations). Like most King I've read, it's got a lot of "fluff", and the book probably could have been half the length (it's long), but I'd recommend it.

Same. It's a really cool book, and it demonstrates how flashbacks could have worked despite requiring a much longer run time

^^^^^I actually just finished reading the book last week, so it was quite fresh on my mind when I saw the movie last night.

^^Could somebody explain the significance of them all sleeping with Beverly (in the book)? I "get" the reason in the book, but it still seems like a pretty perverted plot line, even for King.

The novel is pure King. Wonderful story telling, characters are masterfully fleshed out, and then the book shits all over itself with the ending.

Another great example of this is Revival. I was hooked after the first 10 pages or so, but that ending...

Don't get me wrong, I'll read just about anything he puts out for a good escape, but man, he hardly ever nails the ending.

I've never read it, but a friend of mine said the Dark tower series was aboslutely brilliant up until the ending.

I want to read it, but knowing that really kills the motivation.

^that's maybe a little strong in a few areas, 1 there are def weak spots in the series especially the last book, 2 it depends which ending he means.

Saw it this weekend, and thought it was pretty great. I usually don't go in for horror movies, but having read the book helped cut the tension since I had an idea of what would happen when.

That girl playing Bev looked exactly like a really young Molly Ringwald, and I laughed when Richie called it out.

Loved the amount of humor they injected into this, and for a 2 hour movie I feel like they did the best they could fleshing out the more minor members of The Losers Club.

Skarsgaard as Pennywise killed it. Damn he was awesome.

Didn't really miss the underage gangbang scene that much, it even creeped me out in the book....

Will be anxiously waiting to see who they're casting as the adult versions of all these characters.

Nothing about casting yet on the It: Chapter Two IMDB page except for Skarsgard, but there is this bit of trivia posted.

Quote :
"The cast of the Losers Club were asked whom they wanted to play their adult parts: Finn Wolfhard (Richie Tozier) says Bill Hader, Sophia Lillis (Beverly Marsh) says Jessica Chastain, Chosen Jacobs (Mike Hanlon) says Chadwick Boseman, Jack Dylan Grazer (Eddie Kaspbrak) says Jake Gyllenhaal, Wyatt Oleff (Stanley Uris) says Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jeremy Ray Taylor (Ben Hanscom) says Chris Pratt and Jaeden Lieberher (Bill Denbrough) says Christian Bale."

^^ they can't cast a bunch of A-list actors. They made this one for 35 million, they aren't gonna want to spend 150 to make part two even when it will most likely easily make it back

Bill and Bev maybe get an A-lister, though I can see some strong B-lists wanting the other roles after this has done as well as it has.

hate to agree with jt3 but agree with him that was kinda weird

anyway, i loved it. got me to jump a couple times but some of the monsters were a little too polished to be scary. that one kids mom might have been the creepiest character.

one negative is it is hard to ask one young actor to monologue with a tight shot, they had a few of em, some of them wernt up to the task.

still though, very much enjoyed it.

Comes out today on video. Anybody plan on seeing it?

One thing that bothered me about the book and the made-for-tv movie was the motivation for the bullies. I get name calling, and maybe shoving in the hallways and such, but the bullies in this story go waaay overboard.

Why?

Same as the bullies in Stand By Me. Ace was about to kill Chris before Gordie pulls the gun and tells him to "Suck my fat one, you cheap dime store hood"

it isnt like there arent fucked up kids in real life who go way overboard what is normal. sure, it isnt commonplace, but it does happen. correct me if im wrong, but even in the movie some of the kids think its a bit much (at least fr a second) or am i making that up?

I'm a total pussy when it comes to horror movies but I didn't like this. It wasn't scary and it was generally stupid. I liked the 80s nostalgia but it felt like a rip-off of the Stranger Things vibe.
