thanks! i think we've kinda decided on Riviera Maya...maybe not definitely PDC specifically but thereabouts, i guess. the ruins and shit like that seem super cool and and from what i can tell (and you backed it up) the beaches are probably better too. fiance wants all-inclusive...i don't really care. would love to venture out and not be stuck at a resort at the whole time. but definitely see the convenience of doing all-inclusive and not worrying about figuring out supper plans and how we're gonna get there every night. 2/18/2018 7:05:55 PM |

I think you're making the right call. PVR and Cabo are only like a 2.5 hour flight from CA, and there's not a time big difference to factor, so while I prefer the beaches and things to do around Cancun/PDC/Tulum, it's a 6 hour direct flight for me and way less practical. From the East Coast, it's just an easier trip to make, and while PVR and the Pacific coast in Mexico have a lot of charm that's noticeably different from other parts of Mexico, I think maybe save it for a later trip if you want to compare.
One caveat about Quintana Roo: I have NEVER had a bad experience visiting any of the touristy parts of Mexico (or anywhere in Mexico really), but do your homework and make sure you're staying at a legit resort, since there have been lots of reports about people drinking tainted alcohol at some of the resorts near Cancun and either getting crazy sick or winding up in the hospital and getting gauged for medical bills. Obv you aren't spring breakers and you should be fine, but it is worth mentioning.
One last thing: If you stay at an all-inclusive, cab fares are going to be outrageous from PDC to the airport, Cancun, etc. Tour groups are a waste of money and you're way better off just renting a car. You def don't need a car for the entire time you're there, but if you plan to do any sight seeing (ruins, cenotes, etc) it's worth the extra money to have your own set of wheels.
