i would probably lean towards UL win being better but Wake is a good team and we're obviously underdogs, so this would certainly be in the conversation of best/biggest wins. both teams are ranked similarly in S&P+ rankings (29 for Wake, 36 for UL). WF is on the road, so that's always a little harder. i say the UL win because Lamar Jackson killed us the previous two meetings and they dominated us so thoroughly last year. i know previous meetings don't really have much bearing on this particular game - but it was just impressive to me that we really bottled up the Heisman trophy winner after he had us beat in 1Q of action last year. he still got his stats, but was much less productive and efficient in this year's game. i know people are down on UL, but they've got a good shot at finishing 8-4 this year - it's not like they're as bad as FSU this year.

not that it matters when you're talking about which team is better...but UL was nationally televised on a Thursday, great atmosphere, defending Heisman, they were ranked at the time (mostly meaningless, but still). it looks and sounds better than beating Wake. that said...Wake's better than UL.

kinda crazy BC and FSU are that high. S&P+ has BC, Cuse, and FSU all in the 70s and Pitt in the 90s and UNC in the 100s. obviously they are calculated very differently...and with some bad P5 teams so high, i'd think massey weighs SOS very heavily.

^^^ he’ll almost certainly get an extension. He’s only signed through 2019 right? I think solely for recruiting you have to extend him...you don’t have to give him a big raise and huge buyout if you’re not sold on him, but you sorta have to extend him.

^right. That’s been the case since it was announced negotiations were underway. That was before playing ND and Clemson. He had a chance to name his price had he won those games. Instead we lost (as expected) and he’ll still get extended but now it all depends on how we finish.

But that’s not how contract extensions always work. He’s hamstrung in recruiting if you don’t extend him regardless of finishing 8-4 or 9-3. It’s for the better of the program that he be extended...we don’t have to give him an ungodly contract. Contracts in college athletics rarely expire. That’s just not how it’s gonna work. You’ll pay the buyout if you wanna fire him.

Besides. We’re underdogs today so how would that make today a “should win”?

An 8 win season and another Belk Bowl is barely improvement given how bad FSU and UL actually were. Wish we'd played a team in between mediocre and Playoff/New Years 6 like VT to get a better gauge.

And how were we in contention w/o a strong win over a team currently in the top 25? Hey, UNC was in the hunt until they actually played games, too. Jesus Christ Earl, you'd think I'd said we were Chuck Amato-bad. 9-3 means we've beat all the lesser teams. It just so happens we got 2 bonus ones thrown on the schedule when what happened to FSU happened and UL regressed aside from at QB. Beyond that, we're not in the range of any of the current top 10. Who could have been in contention.
