Oh hey thanks Braves!

Kenley Jansen will be their downfall
9/12/2022 11:02:41 AM
Luckily the Braves have gone cold. After saying that getting caught by the Braves isn’t necessarily a collapse by the Mets have gone 5-7 vs the Nats, Pirates, Cubs, Marlins. So yeah. Fuck it. Maybe we’re entering collapse territory. Scherzer due back soon.
9/15/2022 8:43:02 AM
Gone cold? West Coast Road Trip is over. 13 games Home and Way with the Phillies and Nats, starting with 3 at home vs Phillies. 1/2 Game out of first after the Mets got swept at home by the Cubs. Manufacturing runs can help, but when Alonso and Lindor don't hit the Mets have no offense. I would say Mets schedule is easier but you just went 5-7 against losing teams so not sure that matters.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/34542980/radio-host-doug-gottlieb-admits-made-false-claim-freddie-freeman-contract-talks-atlanta-braves?platform=ampThis is like a week old but I didn’t see it till just now. Basically Doug Gottlieb lied about Freddie Freeman’s agent not telling him about the Braves final offer. I’m not gonna say “I told you so” because I did not in fact tell anybody so. But this story seemed sketchy as hell all along. Why would Doug Gottlieb of all people be breaking this news? He’s not a baseball reporter. He’s not even a sports reporter. He’s a basketball analyst and radio host. Hardly the type of person that would be privy to this kinda news/rumor. And beyond that, why would an agent working on commission not tell his client about a better offer? Also Gottlieb claimed Freeman had fired his agent which doesn’t seem to be true according to the linked article. Man. Doug Gottlieb is just a total buffoon

lol at guffawing over the get cold comment
9/15/2022 3:18:49 PM
Damnit. Mets get blanked and Braves shit the bed against the Nats
9/21/2022 6:47:55 PM
We all know next weekend in Atlanta will determine the division. Loser gets Wild Card, win that and best of 5 against the Dodgers. Winner gets some rest for their bullpens and a matchup with winner of Cards/Padres
9/22/2022 10:22:41 AM
not a single mention of Aaron Judge in the entire thread
9/22/2022 1:44:50 PM
Judge is overrated. Wouldn’t have hit 50 in Ruth’s era. Also. It’s always funny to me when I remember that the of the other 5 guys to hit 60 or more HRs in a single season (not counting Judge since he’s still active), only 1 is in the HOF
9/22/2022 3:55:03 PM
yes what he is doing is impressive, not really paying attention to AL the year. I will say Judge picked the best time to go off and I assume he is a Boras guy so he will be trying to get paid this offseason.
9/22/2022 4:46:06 PM
He’s not a Boras guy.
9/22/2022 5:02:12 PM
Judge rejected a huge contract in the off-season. Don’t remember the details of it. But yeah. He bet on himself and he’s gonna make the Yankees pay for it.
9/22/2022 7:30:25 PM
Braves and Mets are now tied each playing bottom feeding teams tonight. Means if one team loses and the other wins the division could be over if the team that wins sweeps the 3 game series this weekend. Ian is going to play a major part though. Lots of rain and possible wind though the track has shifted more towards coast. Possibilty of a split doubleheader on Sunday. Also wonder if they could postpone Mondays games with Marlins and Nats to get this series in. Would mean a doubleheader in both or canceling a game for both since it would not be an advantage for either team. One will win the Division the other will be top wild card team. Both teams should be at or above 100 wins.
9/28/2022 9:10:47 AM
Yeah Ian is gonna make things extra interesting.I have no faith in whoever is gonna be the Mets 4th starter in the playoffs. Carrasco has a 6+ ERA vs teams with a winning record. Walker is slightly better but doesn’t seem to have the stamina that Carrasco has. As long as they’re healthy, degrom, Scherzer, Bassit is a great 1-2-3. But things get really squirrelly with the #4 guy. [Edited on September 28, 2022 at 9:17 AM. Reason : a]
9/28/2022 9:15:50 AM
^thats why the Mets would have an easier time with Dodgers in a 5 game series versus a 7, so go ahead and take the WC
9/28/2022 9:49:01 AM
So I guess weather won’t be much factor for this series after all. So Mets clinch with a sweep. Mets win 2/3, they’ll have a 2 game lead with 3 to play (vs Nats). Mets win 1/3, they’ll be tied with 3 to play. But in the event of a tie at the top of the standings the Mets would have the tiebreaker. Mets get swept, they’ll be down a game. Basically, if the Mets go 4-2 (which would mean beating the Braves at least once), they’ll win the division. [Edited on September 29, 2022 at 12:29 PM. (To be fair I don’t think judge is acting like he tied the record. He acknowledged Bonds as the record holder. But definitely all the gatekeeping holier than thou types are acting that way)

Holy shit the braves actually swept em

Braves win once against the Marlins or the Mets lose once and Atlanta wins the NL East
10/2/2022 11:41:01 PM
Congrats Braves fans. Mets aces didn’t pitch like aces. Braves dominated. Braves lineup is unfairly good (and unfairly young and unfairly locked up for the future). Mets lineup has lots of holes still.
10/3/2022 6:00:37 AM
As Braves Radio Network Play by Play Ben Ingram said, Mets, you come at the king you better not miss.^Mets are doing what the Mets do best, Metsing all over themselves. But to your point Lindor was awful and he was your 2 hole hitter the entire series. McNeil had a great series he was about the only player that showed up this weekend. Magic Number 1

Oh come on the Mets fanbase has been strutting all season on social media. The team has nothing to do with banter between the fans. This is a rivalry and pretty much the NL East has been dominated by the Braves since the 90's, if they finish the job this will be number 17 and they joined the division in 1994. The Mets will probably also get to 100 wins and thats a great season for anyone, they set the pace and made the Braves work hard to get in the division, and yes sticking it to the SNY guys was part of the reason Ben Ingram made that comment. Rivalries makes sports fun, because it doesn't matter to make the World Series you gotta knock of the super team out in LA. And if the Mets do that and the Braves get out of the NLDS the NLCS will be must watch TV for both fanbases.

If you follow Frank the Tank he pretty much believes de Grom went to the Braves clubhouse and picked out his locker for next year.Personally with his price tag it would mean the Braves would probably have to move on from Fried who is probably the best lefty starter in baseball. So not sure I like that, but with uncertainty over Ian Anderson who was sent to minors and got hurt and Mike Soroka coming off 2 blown achilles an extra started might be key. Liberty Media have finally started spending more money thanks to the revenue the Braves are bringing in. I would take de Grom in a heartbeat for the right money. The Braves sure didn't look like the best team in baseball last night 14 Ks and blanked by the Fish. Guess the late night didn't help them Sunday, heard they got to Miami after 3 am
10/4/2022 10:30:52 AM
When healthy deGrom is the best pitcher in baseball. But his durability is a legitimate concern. And at this point he’s already 34. How much longer is he gonna keep this up? That said, I don’t want the Mets to lose him. I think Cohen will throw all kinds of money at him. But if deGrom is set on leaving then he’ll get paid big elsewhere too

So, uh, with luxury tax obligations the Mets payroll is gonna be almost half a billion dollars this season
12/21/2022 6:37:03 AM
Correa set to have Correa Day with Bobby Bonilla?Correa is a stud but he is 28 so for 7 years they will probably get a great players but the last 5 will be dicey.
12/21/2022 8:09:36 AM
Yeah the really long contracts are crazy. Correa will be 40 when the contract is up (SF’s offer that fell through was for 13 years, 1 more year than the Mets offer). Trea Turner will also be 40 when his contract is up. Bogartes will be 41. Aaron Judge will be 39. I get that the goal is to lock up these dudes in their prime, knowing you’ll be overpaying for their twilight years. But still seems crazy. Especially Correa who apparently failed a physical. Seems like after that the mets would’ve had leverage to negotiate down to fewer years. As a mets fan the Correa move kinda surprises and confuses me. I mean, 1) he’s good and 2) it’s not my money…so in that way, I’m glad ownership is trying to win and I hope it pays off. But some of the off-season moves feel like they’re blocking the mets young talent from contributing. Francisco Alvarez is supposed to be one of the best prospects right now and the mets just signed C Omar Narvaez to go along with Nido on the roster (and McCann but I don’t think he’ll be on the roster in 2023). So that’s gonna be 3 catchers on the roster…Alvarez can DH i guess and maybe he’ll spend time in the minors. But it’s hard for him to develop rapport with the staff when there’s at least 2 other catchers on the roster. And then Correa is expected to move to 3rd. But that blocks Brett Batty for the future. Which is fine, Correa is probably better than Batty will ever be…the sure thing is usually better than a hyped prospect. But it feels like it runs counter to what Mets ownership has been saying all along…which has generally been that they don’t mind paying big money on shorter contracts because they want to focus on the farm system and developing young players in attempt to be sustainable. This Mets lineup looks really strong for next year. In a way, I would’ve preferred trying to lock up Alonso and McNeill long term before going after Correa. But I can’t be mad at the roster they’re constructing either.
12/21/2022 9:05:45 AM
Huge payroll, it sort of worked for other teams but playoffs, and expanded playoffs mean any team can get hot and knock off the big payroll teams. If I was a Mets fan my concerns would be that your 2 best starting pitchers are over 38, and while they both have good stuff you are going to have to manage their appearances to keep them fresh in October and Father Time is still undefeated and they could hit that age cliff at any time. Personally I am glad the Braves didn't overpay Dansby. He is a really good player but he will never live up to the contract he got, but at least his wasn't a ridiculous number of years. I know Braves fans are upset, but he was 7th to 8th in batting order prior to his contract year. His defense is good though, but offensively he was the weakest of the FA Short Stops.
12/21/2022 10:40:45 AM
Verlander and Scherzer’s age is a concern. I feel like if you can manage their innings in the regular season and keep them healthy then they’ll be fine for the playoffs. But yeah…I agree that have 2 dudes that are pushing 40 as your aces isn’t exactly ideal. Huge payroll doesn’t guarantee anything. Still gotta win it on the field. But they’re putting together what looks like a really strong lineup and addressing areas of concern…not much for me to complain about. It’s a huge payroll but Verlander and Schezer obviously make up a lot of that (and Cano still lol) and they are shorter deals. So I don’t know that the size of the payroll will be something that really handicaps the franchise in future free agency moves. Plus Cohen is willing to spend like crazy. It’s fun to have an owner that is insanely rich and really wants to win.Philly has had an active off-season but the Braves are still, Imo, the main competition in the division.
