Sometimes this game frustrates the hell out of me. I guess I should have known that the other people in the server with me last night were idiots when:

- I join the round, there are 50 tickets left, and there are no squads to join

- I am driving down a wide open road when a teammate runs out in front of me and doesn't move, even though I have been driving straight and he could have seen me a mile away. Of course I run him over and get penalized

- We go from having all but 1 CP to having none in a period of 3 minutes

- I get in the MEC helicopter to gun and the pilot hovers in front of a LAV which hits us with it's TOW missle

I tried my luck with commanding yesterday and it was a lot more fun then I expected. The zoomed in view is awesome. When you actually do have compentant squads that respond to your orders, shit gets done. It's awesome that it can go from a FPS game to RTS game.

I've been sniping for a few days now and I have to say that I don't think snipers are useless to sqauds.

-I typically have a greater view of an area than any players except the commander. Anything that I see in my scope, I spot, which means anything within several hundred meters of my position and in my FOV is going to be on everyone's radar. I always spot more than my commanders.

-I draw an inordinate amount of aggro from enemy squads and commanders. If allied forces are planning an attack from the south, I'll circle around to the north and start plugging defenders. They will spend so much resources to get me it's silly. And while they're busying themeselves with me, the squad will smash them to pieces.

-I draw artillery fire from stupid commanders. If you can't understand the value of forcing a commander to waste an artillery fire on one unit....

-I typically have more kills than otherwise. Granted, I still suck at it, but I shot down a chopper the other day with my M95. Simply the ability to take out a chopper in one hit from a rifle that doesn't trigger AA alarms has to count for something.

That being said, I understand the gripe people have because most people play snipers like they're fucking 1 man armies. The first place I look for enemy snipers are up in those retarded ass cranes. When the snipers are scouting ahead of the main force, applying presure from other angles, and killing/distracting base defense while the main force charges, that's when the sniper shines. IMHO.

i was on mastur city, killed the black hawk pilot with the m95 and the helo took a nose dive and killed all 4-5 guys in the back.

I think the reason most people hate snipers are.. yes.. most think they are a 1man army.. but also you will find too often 1/3 of your team going sniper on some maps which is simply stupid.

I generally just enjoy sniping because I like to know where the hell the bullet is going when I fire. I never got the sniper upgrade because I don't snipe vehicles and I really dislike the long range accuracy that comes with the ugprade.

As for people in blackhawks - I've actually had myd river shot out of a blackhawk and a couple of other choppers a few times - USUALLY I will see it in time to just take over the controls myself but it is hilarious to start going down and wonder "WTF?" then you realize the pilot is dead lol

I have been killed in my jet from missile impact without the jet blowing up. I have also noticed that one of the techniques people use to try and shake me while I am behind them is to fly into the red zone right towards the border of the map. If you ever try and leave the map in a plane you start spinning out of control (think Goose in Top Gun) and eventually you get punished by the server. It sucks.

I've gotten decent flying the MEC jet on Operation Clean Sweep. That's all I do on that map anymore. It's good fun and there are always plenty of targets air, land and sea.

One of my new favorite weapons now is mid-air C4. Throw it up at a helicopter, switch to detonator and blow it really fast. If the helicopter is low enough you can get it to stick.

Josh - I agree in a way... it breaks the repetitiveness of it all.

I also think if you are good at one aspect of the game you should play some of the others exclusively and then go back to what you were good at - you will find it amazing at how much better you are just for understanding what else is probably going on at the same time.

I don't think I am able to go a week without playing this game. I am too addicted. When my computer fucked up a few weeks ago, I wasn't able to play for a few days and my clicking fingers on my right hand started twitching .

this is from that last round I mentioned tonight ops - had a blast... the round prior it was just hiz and I so the scores were very inflated for the 2 of us - we got a few decent ppl to join our squad then steamrolled them... there were 6-8 of the AE guys in total (couple came and went) - 2 squads I guess.. but man they just wouldn't stop rushing me using some weird ladder based tactics... but it sure is sad when they can't kill just hiz and I much less let a pickup squad steamroll them in their own server

hope nobody plays with them or anything - because they suuuuuck - but their server rocks

this fuckin game is really pissing me off with the connection issues. i am now plugged in directly to the router, all recommended ports are opened through firewall and router, all background tasks are killed, excellent fast connection but i can play for like 6-7 minutes tops then the game freezes up and next thing i know my connection to the server is lost. WTF!!!!! i dont know wtf else to do!

btw its gotten really bad this week. it was never like this b4.

what ISP do you use?

have you tried another PC at that location?

have you tried your PC at another location?

I'm just curious if there is a problem with the lines like I used to have where it would only screw up when the packet size increased - if there is some PC specific problem - something else in general

i'm using TWC Roadrunner service. when i do a speedtest using http://www.nc.rr.com/speedtest.cfm i always have a high cable internet connection reading.

i dont have any other computers that i can load this game on here cause none of the other computers can handle it and likewise i havent tried my desktop anywhere else cause i dont know where to go to try it.

i've eliminated the problem being wireless related like i 1st thought it was cause i plugged directly into the router. i turned off the windows firewall and had no luck. the next thing i was gonna try was to turn off the router firewall and see what that does. also, i read on forums to try and update punkbuster as well.

Every now and then I will be playing the game and it will just randomly close by itself. No warning, no drop on frame rate or anything. I will be in the middle of doing something and the game freezes for a second, then goes back to the desktop. Does this happen to anyone else?

I had the dropped connection problem as well, but it hasn't happened to me lately.

Does anyone know why does the game automatically load into a random server when I just start the game? I didn't think that I checked any settings for it to do that.

you are using the "play BF2 online now!" shortcut. use the "battlefield 2" shortcut instead.

o i love this wonderful POS coded game

amazingly i was able to play a bit earlier somehow and through some glitch i was being punished for teamkilling when i hadnt TKed anyone. so of course i was in negatives and then kicked for excessive Tking. this fuckin game..lol.

lol - the punish system is one of the few things that gripes me a bit.. but once you know how it works you can really stay away from most of the things that will hurt you

just remember not to shoot any vehicles (even those with tons of enemies in it) if a friendly is anywhere near the vehicle without expecting a TK or team damage indicator... and almost every idiot punishes - so just expect to get punished for a TK.. and almost every server has what I believe is a 3 TK and you are auto-kick/banned feature? (could be off on the # there)

Just knowing/expecting all of that will keep you from being so frustrated when it happens - and keep you from doing things that will cause it. I still don't punish anyone unless it is their second time doing something stupid - or they did something like drive a jeep in front of a jet taking off... seriously boneheaded things I will punish for.

* - back to the internet problem. What other games have you played on that machine online without a hitch? Can you play them now without problems? Just making sure the problem is also solely with BF2 and not the internet at all.

Also - while this game has a shitload of bugs.. I have learned that a large part of it is due to bad customization from the users. Mostly relating with video cards. Granted the game should be able to handle most anything with much more grace than it does.... sadly it does not and that is why I set up this PC fresh when I got BF2 because I had issues with the demo. Ever since then I have not had any problems whatsoever with bugs, crashing, etc... (other than shit like the mem leak on server-side that they had to fix)

yea the TK phenomenon is just that. i wasnt shooting anyone or anythin when i got these mysterious punishments. i was actually driving a MEC FAV and no one was around me at all. it was the weirdest thing and it happened twice in a row like within a minute of each other.

u name it i've played it on this machine. doom 3, far cry, battlefield vietnam/point of existence, need for speed underground and 2, all medal of honor's, etc etc. and yes i can play all of em perfectly fine. in fact to test the internet connection the other day i played battlefield vietnam (with what few servers were left) and i had zero problems and hiccups with gameplay.

so in conclusion, its gotta be the BF2 coding esp the coding for it to play online. cause i just dont get it and dont know what else to do. i did turn off all firewalls (windows and router) and still had the connection issues. so i guess i'll just wait to see if the new patch fixes any of this and if not then i'll take a rocket launcher to the EA offices

^^^ very odd how you can still play other games just fine...that seriously makes me believe it would be more of a port issue.. but with all firewalls off that makes no sense either. I just find it hard to point at the netcode as the culprit because if that were the case everyone with your ISP would be having similar problems. Basically.. I'm just betting that a patch isn't going to make things much better. I know I have heard good and bad stories of dealing with EA.. but I would write up a very informative email explaining everything you have done up to this point - try and include everything possible so they don't reply with something silly that you have already done - shoot it to them including all system specs + router specs and explain how you have bypassed firewalls and everything... then see what they think.

I would also say if you can get someone to bring over a PC that has the game running fine at their house - plug it in - see how it goes... I still think it is somewhere in ports or that specific PC by what you say has been tested so far.

oh and on another note - this game requires a whole new generation of "awesome" PC to play it at good settings

i dont see how it is a port issue cause i opened all ports recommended by EA and Gamespy so that the online play works right. i even opened a few other ports that werent on the list EA provided but which the server was being hosted on. anyone available to bring a computer over to test my connection to see if its that or my computer?

Not necessarily. You just need a decent video card. It runs fine on highest settings on a Radeon X700.

Yeah you get killed before you can even draw your weapon after spawning. On the plus side though, it is pretty easy to get the pistol and knife badge since there are so many people all over the place.

I've only been able to play on Karkand with 64 people (stable) once... and that was only for a small portion of the round before it went to another map. If you ever see a 64 stable karkand server up let me know because I would love to get like 150 kills in a round

the two 64 people servers i play on rotate karkand, its always been stable

pretty fun, too... with 32 players per team, tanks and cars are just deathtraps waiting to be blown up by anti-tank

I played on a good 64 person server last night - Trinity Servers Mojo Dojo. It was fairly stable even though I got some chop (probably due to my system) at some points.

The best part was grabbing the MEC fighter jet immediately after spawn, doing a loop around the map, and blowing up the Blackhawk not 1 minute into the round. Every seat in it was full except one.
