This is vignetting. The lens is a 8mm CIRCULAR fisheye as opposed to a Full Frame fisheye, which wouldn't vignette.

The reverse of vignetting is cropping, which occurs in my camera too b/c its image sensor is smaller than the image the lens makes, so I only get the middle portion of it. Otherwise, this would have been a complete circle.

vignetting actually can occur in some lenses when they are wide open.... depending on the lense there may be a bit of a darkening around the edges/corners... not always wide angle.

Thoughts from any of you? My mom has asked the folks on her scrapbooking forum, and she said the ones who have it rave about it, and that the few issues with the previous model have all been fixed.

Yes, it's expensive for a non-SLR, but I'm not being able to think of anything that would justify the additional cost of an SLR + lenses

i think flowers are one of the best subjects to practice on...you almost ALWAYS get a great picture, and so you can identify the "small" things that you need to work on

you had kodak which gave you a warm and bright picture, but wasn't really what stuff looked like
and then you had fuji which gave a much more realistic return of a subject

i often wonder if anyone does post processing with a "fuji" mindset

i know i'll leave my pictures a little warmer, with a little more orange/red to them, than what it really should look like - just like kodak did

question for DSLR users...okay, so my dad and i went to take pictures at the arboretum today for father's day and he uses a nikon film SLR (i can't remember the model)...anyway, he was giving me instruction on f-stop and shutter speed, ISO settings, etc., and i noticed that taking a picture with his SLR feels WAAAAAAY different (better, really) than taking one with my FZ30...his seems to focus more easily, and pictures look more "real" in his viewfinder...is this because his is a film camera and mine is digital? or is it because mine is essentially still just a point-and-shoot and his is an SLR?

i'm not complaining about my camera by ANY means...i love it to death and i don't regret buying it in the least (it's great for learning on)...but if this is what i'm missing by not using an SLR...well, damn

i don't really change much of the coloring in my pictures. my post processing is very minimal. and for this thread its actually nonexistant. i still say i'm not trying to display my skill in photoshop but just showing the picture that i actually took.



^^its probably the difference between SLR and nonSLR

but then again i found that it feels a bit different between film and digital. but its more of a "i don't know exactly how my picture will turn out" and my film camera is manual.

The fact that he was shaded and the background was so bright caused the problem I assume? I think when I took that one I had set the exposure compensation to +2 to try and expose him better because in the first shot I took he was mostly blacked out. But then when I did that the sky and all the white surfaces were overexposed.

^^ What you could experiment with is set your manual exposure to give you the correct exposure for the background. Depending on what camera you have, when your flash is up, tell it to meter off your foreground subject and violá.

Get a Nikon, MiGZ. Can't go wrong with the D50, I love taking pictures with it, even if they turn out like crap.
