this thread isn't about the app state game, particularly

it's about the wait til football officially begins on campus after basketball season ends.
the anticipation for the greatest experience in collegiate athletics...

IT'S FOOTBALL SEASON, BABY AND WE WILL BE READY IN 5 DAYS!

^^did you take that today?

i have a question for you if so.

I went to CF on saturday, and I thought the field looked like shit between the hash marks and between the 20's. Did it look any better today? They can do some crazy shit with bermuda grass in just a few days, just wondering how it looked.

just found out that those letters are the ones that were on the original A.E. Finley Fieldhouse. that's really cool, and adds a nice historic touch to it.

it very well could have been slightly torn up. they scrimmage there during camp.

but i would think it would just be a little torn up, as in after a single game. Not like shit as it might after a season.

since i've been going to college here, i can hardly ever remember a time when we had absolutely horrible weather. 04' tOSU game rained some really early that morning and was overcast much of the day, but besides mud in the parking lots it was a rather mild day. 04' FSU game it began to have a light misty drizzle in the second half, but nothing that would make you soaked. besides those two i only remember nice warm (Sept/early Oct), mild (Oct), and cool (Nov.) games, that were usually sunny. we've had some pretty good gameday weather these past couple of years.

^^It didnt so much look a little torn up, but the grass looked like it wasnt as high where the bad spots are, which looked pretty bad to me. I've worked at a golf course for a long time and it looked like fairway grass that wasnt getting enough water. I have no doubt that they can get it in shape by saturday though, all it takes is one healthy dose of fertilizer and some water about 4 days before the game.

So apparently on one of Game's mixtape songs, he raps "I got a shoe, the next color on the shelf is North Carolina blue/I'm getting married, she's from North Carolina too/but you won't catch me wearing North Carolina blue/If you see me in Raleigh, sliding through/throw your rags up like North Carolinians do."

can anyone confirm this, and what's the name of the song. i know on one of his new songs he mentions marcus vick as well.

^^^ nc state 10, usc (gamecocks) 0. 1999, during hurricane dennis

that game was the unveiling of the brand new red band uniforms. every band member ended up with a pink shirt.

i remember looking over at the student section, and all i could make out was some guy swinging a rubber chicken over his head.

man why the hell did the Technician ask 3 freshmen in the "Overheard" section what they thought of the new tailgating restrictions. i guarantee you that probably none of them have ever been to a State game, and at least one of them won't be at the App. State game. freshmen don't know shit about our tailgating and how it used to be. if you're gonna ask students what they think of the new restrictions at least make it all seasoned students preferably juniors and seniors who have had plenty of experience tailgating and getting screwed by the administration and ducking the ALE.

I agree, but more big trash cans should be put out, and more port-a-potties as well. Waiting 30 minutes to pee sucks, especially when you've already broken the seal previously.

Have you ever tried to cook a pig (or other meals that take a long time) in four hours? I say let the ones that want to get out there early be able to do so. Less traffic overall, and provides for a good atmosphere. What if you needed to set up a stage for your buddies that decide to dj or play with there band at the tailgate. I've seen plenty of tailgate parties like this. You know there's some truth in the saying "time flies when you're having fun."

"Alcohol rules here are too strict. A bit childish.
Jacob Tiellemans

Somewhat agree, but every now and then you get those few that can't handle the responsibilities of alcohol consumption like adults let alone college students. It's like they still have the mentality of a high school student. Ooh I can drink alcohol now, I'm gonna go buck wild and drink till I am a liability to myself and others.

I agree about the importance of a family environment, and it has a place, and that place is not in the student lot/sections.

Agree, what are they gonna do, have cops go out to Radioshack, buy a bunch of decibel meters and take them around to each and every tailgate party?

Sample of App. State's head coach Jerry Moore's teleconference

Quote :
"Opening Statement NC State:
They've got a really good football team. I don't keep up with a lot of the ACC schools, they've got their division and we've got ours, but you can't help living in North Carolina knowing about the kids they sign. They recruit nationwide. You keep reading about the players they sign. They are just outstanding players.

They had a really good football team last year. Coach Amato came here from Florida State, and he's got a good staff. It's going to be a big challenge for us.

What do you see as the biggest problem with NC State?
Typically every year we play at least one [game like this]. One of the big differences in I-AA and I-A is we have 63 scholarships and they've got 85. We have one really good tight end, and they probably have three. They go against that guy everyday in practice. We don't practice against the competition level that they do.

You can't make mistakes. You can't make mistakes and expect to beat that kind of football team. You've got to keep them to a minimum. That's the thing we talk about, we harp on with our players.

The kicking game, anytime you get in those kind of ballgames the kicking game is big.

How does this team compare to last year's?
I think it's just too early to compare this team to last year's team. That group played fifteen ballgames, and this one hasn't been on the field yet. It's way too soon.

We've worked awfully hard. We've got what can be a good nucleus.

Thoughts on quarterback situation:
Trey Elder will start for us at quarterback. He's played in a lot of big games if you go all the way back to his high school career at Byrnes High School in Duncan, South Carolina.

When Trey was a freshman, he started and played the entire game against Texas State. He started the championship game and played very well.

He's never gone into a season, since high school, where he's the guy. I think it's a little different for a quarterback to be a starter from the get-go rather than come off the bench. It's a little easier to come off the bench.

[/b]What are his greatest attributes?[/b]
I think our players have a lot of confidence in him. I think our players respect him, and I think that his leadership qualities are probably his biggest asset.

How does the change at quarterback affect the reflection of this team yet?
We don't know yet. He hasn't played anybody the caliber of these guys. We all know that. He hasn't been in control of a game of this magnitude. I don't want to take anything away from Northern Iowa, but playing Northern Iowa and Furman isn't like playing North Carolina State. We all know that, and they are good football teams. They are not the level of these guys.

I don't know. It's going to be hard to see. Trey's prepared well and he's going to run our football team. We're going to give him all the help we can give him."

Sounds like a man preparing for a butt-whooping.

i dont know if anyone even cares or not, but i just picked up a real nice 10'x10' tailgate tent (nc state edition of course) over at kmart. theyre on sale for $120 if anyone wants one. they meet the new "flame retardant" tailgate policy as well. and for this weekend, they also have nc state ponchos as well (hopefully we wont need them)
