I really want to get around to reading the A Song of Ice and Fire series. I've heard about them for a long time and just recently started reading up on the overview/plot etc. and it sounds awesome. It sounds like the type of fantasy book i've been looking for. Unfortunately it sounds along the same lines as some major ideas I had for writing that I planned to do after I got married but maybe it will just help in influencing me and not discourage me

Just finished:

DO NOT read this book hoping to laugh at the silliness of Liberty U. It gets really pretty hard to read by the end. Let's just say that watching someone who's faking his entire being fall in love with an awesome girl and be forced to hide his true self is pretty wrenching.

Reading Lord of the Rings again for the first time since middle school.

Honestly I'm really happy Peter Jackson made some of the changes he did.

Some of his blog entries prior to publishing the book were pretty entertaining. My sister just graduated from Liberty, so I thought I'd pick it up eventually.

I started The Picture of Dorian Gray for the third or fourth time. And I think I am just going to have to accept that I don't like it enough to finish it.

So now:

like what specifically? I'm more of a fan of the books, but I did really enjoy the movies still.

i'm pretty disappointed...i don't find it especially insightful, and i've read much better philosophy in a sci-fi/fantasy book...the first book was okay, but not anything i couldn't put down...i'm not sure i'll make it through to chapterhouse if this doesn't pick up soon

*shrug*"

Messiah is a bit of a snoozer. Children of Dune is very, very good. It's certainly the most plot-driven, but it's also much more emotional than the others. Then God Emperor is a little weird. It's a lot of walking around, looking at weird religious ceremonies, and talking about why they are all necessary evils.

Just finished:

Lot of fun. Nothing too in depth, but just a bunch of results from neat psychological experiments. Why some jokes are funnier than others, what your birthdate has to say about your personality, why some people experience ghostly experiences, etc. Some conclusions:
"Women's personal ads would attract more replies if they were written by a man. The opposite is not true of men's ads."
"People would rather wear a sweater that has been dropped in dog feces and not washed than one that has been dry-cleaned but used to belong to a mass murderer."

Currently listening to:

A history of scientific achievement over the last thousand years or so. Very entertaining and very cohesively written. He seamlessly transitions from early earth science and astronomy into 18th century physics into 19th century chemistry into 20th century breakthroughs. He writes very light-heartedly, giving the positives and negatives of all these theories with a good bit of humor thrown in. Very interesting to see the "other" side of many of our famous scientists (like how much time Newton wasted on alchemy).

oh man, i love god emperor. it's intriguing on a level beyond that of the other books, if you're at all interested in the philosophical implications of power and such.

I recently read that. Pretty interesting. I didn't know anything about DRs before reading that.

Recently finished that, The Shack, Stiff, reading Sea Biscuit now.

And as always, slowly chugging through Atlas Shrugged. Also working on a history of Australia book.

The Discovery of Insulin

Was provided to me for free by my pediatric aidsabeetus hospital. Seems they got it for free from Eli Lilly & Company (they make my insulin). It's really damn interesting.
