yeah i'd say salty is gonna see a lot more time here soon at 1b. after seeing him play it the other day i'd venture to say his defense at 1st would probably be suspect for a while... oh well... necessary trade off for his offense.

What do you think of Kelly Johnson? Is he going to be a legit leadoff hitter or is he still riding the really hot April?

I just looked at his minor league numbers and his current ML numbers seem to be way above them (he was a VERY high strikeout guy in the minors). That in itself isn't unusual for top prospects who are based a lot more on natural talent and potential, but Johnson really wasn't a top prospect by outside sources...

^hard to really know whats goin on, seein as we've still only seen him for two months.

He looks like a streak hitter to me....which i don't know if thats what you're really lookin for at the #1 spot. He'll go a few games hittin the SHIT outta the ball....and then he'll go a few games like last night: 0-5 with 3 K's. So i dunno...

^^ I am assuming you are asking based on fantasy value. He hasn't been playing much lately against lefties and definitely has cooled since April. He did have a recent hot streak though so his overall numbers are still good and he still has fanstasy value. A good person to trade away IMO.

The Braves definitely need him getting on base regularly if they hope to keep the Mets from running away with the division. The Braves are playing like shit right now and the starting pitching is horribly inconsistent. I wish the Mets would lose a few series so the Braves could actually make up a game or two

sweeeeeeeeeet

Props to Carlyle too....im glad the Braves finally gave him some run support. 7 Innings of 1 hit ball....too bad that 1 hit was a homer....but still, very impressive outing

Heck yes we finally beat the shithole Marlins. Need to take tonight's game as well. Offense is still a joke, but Carlye's start was very encouraging. Andruw still looks lost I am going to have to bench him soon on my fantasy team.

The Braves are lucky that the Mets have lost 3 out of 4 because otherwise we could be sitting almost 6 back. This recent shit streak, I think we have lost 14 of the last 22, has also cost us the lead in the wild card. The NL West is shaping up to be strong division with a lot of good starting pitching. About the only good thing the Braves have right now is Soriano.

Also Chipper will not be ready to come off the DL on Friday when he is eligible. He will likely miss next week too. Chipper needs to start some yoga and intensive stretching program and lay off the weights in the offseason so he can actually play 150 games in a year.

It sounds like Chipper is going to be out for a lot longer than you think. Did you hear what he said yesterday? That he can't even pick up his kid and he wants to have a cast put on his hand because everyday things like writing and opening doorknobs hurt a lot right now.

Anyway, the Mets are sort of lucky too that the NL East hasn't been winning since our offense has been pretty bad recently. Luckily we are getting Green and Valentin back this week and Alou next week. Once we're whole again I'm sure we'll go on a nice little 8 or 9 out of 10 winning streak. I can't really expect a lineup with Gotay, Gomez, Johnson (all 3 are nice young players but just not ready yet for regular ML ABs), Chavez and Easley to light up the scoreboard... luckily our pitching has been amazing so far.

I'm less concerned about Chipper than I am about this horrible display of both starting and relief pitching... it's fucking awful.

I hope scheurholz decides to go back to what worked for the braves: dominant pitching...

Without some big trade to bring in another starter, the Braves are going to disappear this season. It's amazing though because just a few weeks ago, it looked like we could hang with the Mets and would be a lock for the wild card.

The Braves are now 9-15 without Chipper in the lineup and with Smoltz not 100% and Hudson pitching like the Hudson of 05 and 06, the Braves = suck.

Kyle Davies is like a worse, less energetic version of Kevin Millwood. That is fucking sad.

definitely need to send Cormier down to the minors for a little while. I get that Cox thinks he's still just a little rusty...but dear god...let him knock the dust off his arm in the minors where it doesn't really matter. I'm sure he's probably got a lot of potential...but obviously he's not ready to pitch at this level just yet.
