Wil Shipley unhappy with "new direction" of Apple/Jobs:

damn, that was a long entry.

but what's new? they are a corporation, in business to make money. if they think they can do that better with closed systems and tight-fisted partnerships, it's up to them. empowering the masses is secondary despite the notion that a focus on the customer will naturally lead to their own success in the marketplace. they've been doing pretty well with the former approach lately. who knows how long consumers will put up with that but for now they have struck a pretty good balance between pleasing their customers and pleasing their shareholders

Given some of the recent Apple antics it seems that things have changed.

like? They still make a stellar product thats very durable, sleek in its design, and doesn't have the look and feel of 'cheap Chinese shit'

Tilted nano displays, iPhone/iPTouch screen negative black issue and ghosting, 20" iMac screen problems, repurchasing of games, songs != ringtones, tv/video out snafu, iPod audio quality reduced, and software removal of functionality (like add to calendar) in iPTouch are what first come to mind. This is simply from my day to day readings on engadget. Where usually its double-plus apple fanboi supreme there has been a definite change in tone. Apple loyalists seem to be a bit worried about these traditionally "M$" ascribed tendencies. Wil Shipley is a great example of showing that hint of worry.

k, now that thats settled (that=lack of stereo speakers on a $400ish portable music device/phone)

when the iphone is ringing, the answer button is on the right, and the decline button is on he left.

doesnt apple realize that we westerners read from left to right? id like to talk to the dude who arranged the buttons like that.

^are you serious or just trolling? Because the buttons are so huge that you don't have to read which one is decline and which one is answer. generally a big RED button would indicate decline and a big GREEN button would indicate answer.

it's simple...if you have it unlocked right now, DON'T UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE. seems like a scare tactic to me. also if anyone wants their iphone unlocked contact me. i've done a couple already with 100% success and everything is working great except for visual voicemail which is an AT&T exclusive. mine is running on Suncom right now.

Its a video clip that you can watch on apples website highlighting all the new stuff.

1) music store
2) double click 'home' button to take you from any screen to your phone favorites OR if you have music playing it will bring up a small music interface over top any screen to allow you to skip, back, play/pause, and volume control
3)can change the text message notification sound to a few other sounds
4) increased the volume of the speakers for music and speaker phone
5) you can now view email attachments in landscape
6) changed the calculator icon

I just installed the update and iTunes thinks the phone is in restore mode now and is demanding that I restore it, could be a side effect of the fact that my phone used to be modded......we'll see, I'm doing the restore on it right now

Update: Working fine with 1.1.1 on it now, it just required a restore after the update for some reason

Is there anyway to get all my pics off of my phone? I synced it originally to a computer I no longer have access to. So, if I sync it to this new computer, I lose all of my pictures. Unfortunately the only copy I have left of most of them is on the phone so I'd really prefer not to lose them.

I know it's easy to get the pictures that you've captured off but no idea how to do the rest..

Any suggestions??

uh oh.....
sounds like Apple was a bit overzealous when they went after the hacked phones with the software 1.1.1 update. Now a bunch of non-hacked and non-modded phones are being bricked. this could get ugly

you could try to mount it as a flash drive, but i don't know if that would require you to sync it first

Woman Sues Over Apple's iPhone Price Cut

Quote :
"SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- A New York woman is so angry at Apple Inc. for lopping $200 off the price of the iPhone that she's filed a lawsuit seeking $1 million in damages.

Dongmei Li of Queens, N.Y., claimed the company violated price discrimination laws when it slashed the price of the 8-gigabyte iPhone by a third, from $599 to $399, within two months of the gadget's June debut.

Apple lowered the iPhone's price on Sept. 5 and also said it would stop selling the $499 4-gigabyte model. Hundreds of early customers who paid full price didn't expect a reduction so soon and complained.

Apple issued an apology the next day. Under its return policy, Apple refunded the $200 difference for those who bought the phone within 14 days of the reduction. And in a move to make peace with those who purchased the higher-priced phone before that period, the company offered a $100 credit at Apple stores.

According to Li's lawsuit, filed on Sept. 24 in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York, the price reduction injured early purchasers like herself because they cannot resell the product for the same profit as those who bought the cell phone following the price cut.

Li purchased a 4GB iPhone for $499 and alleged that owners of the 4GB model were given less favorable terms than those who bought the 8GB model at the premium price, according to the lawsuit.

Apple spokeswoman Susan Lundgren declined to comment, citing the company's policy to not discuss pending litigation.

The lawsuit also named AT&T Inc., the exclusive carrier in the U.S. for the iPhone, and alleged the two companies' required two-year service contract for the iPhone constituted unfair business practices.

Mark Siegel, an AT&T spokesman, declined to comment, saying he had not yet seen the lawsuit."

What a dumb bitch. First buying a 4gb is retarded when for $100 more you get twice the capacity.
Second: Where does she see the justification for $1million lawsuit for paying $100 more than everyone else (factoring in the $100 credit). I hope she loses and pays $1000's in court/lawyer fees.

She must be the same woman that sued McD's for serving her 'hot' coffee.

spending $100 less when 4gb is all she needs is not retarded.. but yea, a lawsuit is a bit overboard

sure I can. With $1million to spend, don't you think she'll buy more songs on iTunes?

On a serious note though....this isn't a nano or shuffle who's sole purpose is music. Its now a phone, shitty camera, video player, email client, etc. All that shit takes up space.
