nice. TOB and company are getting some good players out of Georgia. how long before the media ostracizes TOB for recruiting the state of Georgia too much?

He looks like a really hard hitting safety, like an Adrian Wilson. We've got two commits from players from Georgia Zach Allen and Roy Mangram, and we are currently the leader for Elton Ford and one of the leaders for A.J. McCray. All in all we have offered 7 players from Georgia this year.

Supposedly a big time kid that just hasn't been ranked yet.....offers from South Carolina and Clemson but he still needs to pass the SAT. If we can get him in, he will be big time

Well we did get William Beasley from Milton, Florida, but we haven't recruited Florida nearly as hard as we have in the past. The only other Florida kid that we've offered is the #28 ranked Safety T'Sharvan Bell. Bell looks to be kind of wide open right now.

Just looking at his pics, I thought he was a defensive end. Definitely an Adrian Wilson type, as someone mentioned earlier. Good. We need another big hitting safety.

[Edited on October 26, 2007 at 12:10 AM. Reason : of course as big as he looks, olb might be a better fit, esp. in the 3-4]

Yeah we need someone that makes the WRs fearful of going over the middle. If he ends up becoming a player here I expect to hear the crowd yelling "BOOM" quite often.

He looks bigger b/c of the oversized shoulderpads/neck roll. Just think of the hits he'll get to make over the middle in our zone coverage scheme.

I think he'd make a great 3-4 OLB, or possibly a solid pass-rushing DE. I doubt he actually plays S much.

Looks to be true. Good we'll need a fullback down the road. Welcome to the Pack Mr. Jackson. Another Georgia commit. Look for the local media to start saying that TOB is ignoring the state of North Carolina and is recruiting Georgia too much.

Had offers from Air Force and Georgia Southern. Auburn, Louisville, and Troy were other schools interested.

Also I don't know when it happened but Earl Wolff is now a 3* player.

Why are there no fullbacks that are ever highly rated? There are no fullbacks on Scout or Rivals that have a ranking over 3*'s. It seems like it could be a valuable position. They can help lead block for running backs on goal line drives. They can pound the ball on short yardage situations. They can also catch balls out of the backfield like RBs, but be able to rumble for a few yards like TE's. It's hard to bring down the big boys sometimes.

Quote :
"Despite limited carries, Trinity Christian star is on a crusade toward end zones

By Coley Harvey - charvey@macon.com

On Friday nights, as clocks around Middle Georgia speed toward midnight and the bright lights of high school football stadiums are shut off, things start to wake up around the newsroom.

Phone calls pour in as coaches announce scores and statistics to be put in the next day's paper, and each week this season, there's been one name that when uttered, routinely jolts the takers of these calls.

"Colby Jackson, eight carries, 230 yards rushing," a voice on the other end announces.

One night it even said, "Colby Jackson, 22 carries, 278 rushing yards and three touchdowns."

While the eyes of this area are usually focused on GHSA powerhouses like Northside, Baldwin and Westside, there are also some eyes from this part of the state that have converged on Dublin

private school Trinity Christian, watching Jackson amass statistics that could rival a few state records.

"Well the whole school, we're very proud of him," Trinity Christian head coach Steve Price said of Jackson. "It's neat because he's such a neat kid. He's humble, very hard-working, just a really, really good boy. I'm excited to see him have success.

"As it is with all kids, you like to see them work hard and see them achieve success, and we've been blessed with a lot of kids like that, but Colby is having a phenomenal year."

In just seven games this season, the senior running back is leading Middle Georgia rushers, tallying 1,612 rushing yards and 25 rushing touchdowns on only 109 carries. He's averaging nearly 230 yards per game and has not had a game with less than 200 yards rushing this season.

"It's a culmination of all his work for many, many years," Price said. "He's been one of those kids that always does what he's supposed to in the weight room and in our flexibility training. He stays focused. All that he's gotten this year, he's earned for how he's been working for a long time."

A lot of that hard work has come by way of the dedication Jackson has given to the other two sports he plays at Trinity Christian. The star rusher, who was a member of last season's state championship football team, is also a two-time state champion in wrestling and has been a part of a boys track and field program that has won five straight GISA AA state titles.

"Of course wrestling is so much of a different sport than football," Jackson said. "It's a one-man sport, you're the only one out there.

"In a football game, if you're not ready to play mentally, you're probably not going to do very good, and that's what wrestling gets you prepared for because it's just you and the other guy, and you've got to be mentally ready to do whatever it takes to win. If there's anybody that has a mental problem, go wrestle, and they'll be all right after that."

As wrestling honed his mental prowess, it also made Jackson a more disciplined person, teaching

him self-control in regards to what he feeds his body.

"I changed my eating habits completely," Jackson said. "I threw out everything, and I started eating a lot of the right foods, you know, instead of just a lot of the wrong foods. And I've started proportioning things the right way.

"I met a wrestling coach and he said, 'What do you eat?' And I was like, 'McDonalds ... uhhh,' No, no, no. He said, 'Yeah, you'll be able to go longer if you don't.' I changed it right then when he told me, and I said, 'Well, I'm going to try it.' Whether you drink two gallons of water-a-day or what, just be smart about it."

One thing the 6-foot-2, 225-pound senior has been smart about is his on-field activities. He has found himself in some tough predicaments behind his offensive line, but he remembers discovering ways to maneuver out of those sticky situations.

Jackson recalled one such play on the first snap of the game against rival John Milledge earlier this season.

"Everything is shut down to the right side on a sweep to the right, and something just told me to come back to my left," Jackson said. "So I just kind of spun around and ran back to the left, and one guy missed, and I went 80-something yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game. We lost the game, but it's always going to be a memory because that's one of those teams that we always wanted to beat, and I felt like that play started it off right."

He ended the night with 250 rushing yards in Trinity Christian's only loss of the season.

As he begins to wind down his 2007 campaign with just three regular-season games remaining including tonight's contest with Memorial Day öö Jackson is on pace to finish his season knocking on the door of state records in rushing yards and touchdowns.

If he continues to average 230 yards per game, he would wind down the year with nearly 2,300 yards. By comparison, ranking 10th on the GHSA state record list is Monte Williams of Commerce with 2,505 rushing yards. He did that in 2000.

If Jackson keeps up with his current touchdown pace, he'll have 34 rushing scores by the end of the regular season, two shy of Garrison Hearst's 36 in 1989. Hearst is tied for 11th place on the state record list.

While he may not be bleeding Hearst's red and black next year, Jackson is still being courted by several other top universities. According to Price, Louisville, N.C. State, Georgia Southern, Troy, Auburn and Air Force are among the schools showing interests in Jackson.

Regardless of where the rusher ends up in state history, or where he ends up in college next year, he knows that without his teammates, this season couldn't have been as successful as it was.

"We couldn't expect much more, I don't think, from the beginning," he said of the Crusaders' 6-1 record. "We're just starting to become a team, everybody's playing well together. We just want to (win a state title) again. That's our motto, is to win, unselfishly. They're helping me do what I've been doing this year, and I have to give them thanks for that.""

I hope Miami can turn it around. We need all of the ACC teams to be competitive, especially if we make a run at the BCS National Championship (although i'm joking around, TOB would be the man that could do it for us). Miami needs to find a QB. They have a good running game and their defense has speed. I hear Randy Shannon has some pretty outstanding commits right now.

Who do you all think/hope will commit next?

Deion Walker I know is a longshot, but if TOB would get him I would stop TOB before he gets to his car at the end of the day, and do like Wayne and Garth. "I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy, I'm scum, I suck!" Hopefully TOB would then say, "you're worthy, you're worthy, now get up."

R.J. Mattes would be the next. I think we may see A.J. McRay and Elton Ford commit in the next month or so.

Deion Walker isn't as much of a longshot as one would think. He's still talking about us, and I read something about how he doesn't understand why people don't think we're on his list. He's been on like 6-7 unofficial visits, and wanted to come to the Carolina game but stayed home due to family commitments.

Reason would say that he's probably still leaning hard to FSU, but who knows? State sure has turned things around...
