11/9/2016 4:42:00 PM
$270

Anyone get anything good this fall?
11/27/2016 5:48:04 PM
Recently started aging my own in a 2 liter barrel. This first round I am just using 1.5L of Weller 12 and nothing else. My plan is ~3 months. I'll taste every 30 days. If this goes well I'll get a little more experimental. I have read some interesting articles on adding 1/4 cup of molasses to the barrel while aging.
12/12/2016 2:55:02 PM
I just want some Blanton's...is that too much to ask
12/12/2016 3:19:05 PM
Recently started making Old Fashioned's here at home - using what I have left of regular Bulleit bourbon right now. Any recommendations for good liquor to use making an Old Fashioned, or really just whatever bourbon or whiskey you prefer?
12/12/2016 4:49:54 PM
Picked up the Blantons Birthday bourbon to celebrate with my boys in 21 years.
12/12/2016 10:33:05 PM
You mean old forester birthday bourbon?
12/13/2016 8:00:34 AM
Duh, yes. Old Forester.I picked up a Blantons single barrel as a gift for my brother. Not sure if it will make it to Christmas.
12/13/2016 11:02:02 AM
Anyone gotten anything good this fall? I found a couple birthday bourbons in myrtle beach this week
10/1/2017 10:47:25 PM
Buddy of mine got me some 10yr Bulleit. It's good, but nothing mind-blowing.
10/2/2017 8:50:25 AM
^^lucky. all i want is a damn bottle of birthday.
10/2/2017 8:55:11 AM
I had some Yamazaki 12 year single malt last week in Dusseldorf. Smooooooooooooth.
10/2/2017 11:31:05 AM
Snagged some WL Weller Special Reserve down in Macon, GA, last week.
10/3/2017 10:05:38 AM
Antique collection has hit NC, keep your eyes peeled
10/4/2017 3:10:16 PM
haven't found anything special lately, other than various batches of Barrell Bourbon and some ECBP. Store near me starting carrying the standard Sazerac Rye again which was nice to see. Hoping to score a bottle of George T. Stagg this year since I think I read there are about 10k bottles this year. Haven't gotten one since 2013.
10/5/2017 2:23:01 PM
I got a weller antique from the ABC store in Southport. good stuff.[Edited on October 5, 2017 at 4:33 PM. Reason : also purchased a "Very Old Barton"....very smooth]
10/5/2017 4:32:58 PM
^^ got one...and there’s around 30k bottles...although some of those are undoubtedly bound for overseas and bars/restaurants
10/5/2017 5:01:45 PM
Just got a bottle of the Old Forester 1920 Prohibition after hearing about it for a while and have to say it's pretty solid. Definitely holds up to the hype. I'm not fancy enough to understand just how "nuanced" the flavor is, but I like it. Would recommend.
2/23/2018 1:54:45 PM
Bulleit barrel proof is in NC now, highly recommend picking up a bottle if you see it
2/23/2018 7:41:31 PM
Picked up Weller Antique 107 yesterday from my spot in Rock Hill. They also had Stagg Sr, one bottle left if anyone's interested.
5/17/2018 8:20:47 AM
I'd give you $20 to buy the last Stagg and mail it to me and cover all out of pocket costs.
5/17/2018 9:14:09 AM
I'll go tomorrow and if they still have it, I'll grab it.
5/17/2018 4:05:54 PM
anyone here predominately a rye fan? I've drank most of the ones I can readily get at the liquor store and tend to stick to High West Double Rye but I haven't gotten to try the Booker's Rye. Booker's is probably the best bourbon I've ever had. Anything I'm missing that's obtainable? I'm more of a beer and (dry) wine guy so definitely not an expert in spirits at all.
5/18/2018 2:47:23 AM
bigD ncsu, check your PM
5/18/2018 10:12:54 AM
There’s an Old Forester Birthday Burbon at a store in DC. $300 though. Also had Stagg Jr, Sazerac Rye, some other good stuff.
11/3/2018 4:43:43 PM
Been dabbling in more bourbon and whiskeys from craft distillers. Latest couple of purchases include Fiddler Bourbon from ASW in Atlanta and Sassy Rye from Copper Fox in Williamsburg. Haven't actually tried Fiddler yet but the Sassy Rye was impressive and different.
11/3/2018 10:18:19 PM
I cannot remember which Rye I got from Copper Fox, but it was one of their first batches I think, and it was _horrible_. Maybe they have gotten better.
11/5/2018 11:13:29 AM
The first Stagg Jr I got was wretched. I let it breath for a couple of weeks and it changed to being actually decent. The last bottle I got tasted decent on day one. There's not a lot of consistency with some of the smaller batch bourbons.
11/5/2018 2:50:18 PM
anybody on here in the facebook secondary market?
11/6/2018 7:45:58 AM
saw a birthday bourbon here in atlanta, asked the owner's wife how much and she laughed and said "oh it's way overpriced you don't want that. it's $340." i complimented her on her sales pitch.
11/6/2018 10:16:12 AM
^^First rule of BSM.
11/6/2018 11:44:32 AM
^^^what was your process of letting it breathe? I have to take my Stagg Jr. with water to open it up, otherwise it's like turpentine.
11/6/2018 3:55:15 PM
I simply decanted into a wide bottle and let it get exposure to air. It's a barrel proof bourbon, so the proof is so high that it will kill your tastebuds if you don't open it up a little.
11/6/2018 4:53:07 PM
thanks

Mecklenburg County ABC Lottery results out tomorrow...Haven't gotten anything in 4 years. Here goes nothing
11/13/2018 10:36:54 AM
they used to do it by who answered the emails the fastest. i got a pvw 15 and 23 that way
11/13/2018 11:00:30 AM
Damn! I fee like I was pretty quick...but who knows. Are you still in CLT? If so - any luck this year?
11/13/2018 11:16:14 AM
Haven't heard anything this year, i'm expecting my "nice try, better luck next year" email any day now
11/13/2018 12:25:52 PM
^hell i don't think i even get a nice try email. I just assume I lose out.and i forgot, again, to go signup for Southern Spirits' lottery too. So i guess i'm drinking shelf bourbon again this year]
11/13/2018 2:17:23 PM
^ I work in Rock Hill and live in Southpark and I can honestly say that I'd almost rather take my chances with NC vs dealing with these SC stores. Southern Spirits is so snooty about everything and I like O'Darby's for regular stuff but I saw a bottle of Weller 107 in their case a while back for $99. That's just ridiculous. I'll admit I bought the Elmer T Lee I saw for $70 but it's still a crock of shit.
11/13/2018 2:57:33 PM
I hear that a lot about Southern Spirits but they've never been that way with me. I used to go fairly frequently but it's been a year or more at this point. They'll probably just look at me as a rare chaser at this point.
11/13/2018 4:44:15 PM
I've grown quite fond of basil hayden's bourbon lately
11/13/2018 5:04:03 PM
Anyone still into bourbon? Still a big fan—but it’s gotten too cray. Usually just stick to the good stuff I can get my hands on—but the Pappy lottery came out here today in Mecklenburg. Only way I’ll ever get Pappy is through that anyway.
11/18/2019 8:06:23 PM
I'm balls deep into it. Have way too much but gamble for the good bottles. Have a nice pappy cabinet
11/18/2019 9:03:31 PM
I don't travel out of state as much, so i'm stuck with the Wake Co ABC stores. i did get into the wake county lotto.
11/18/2019 9:57:01 PM
i allow myself one overpriced bottle a year, and try to enter lotteries to see what i can get closer to MSRP. but otherwise, i don't really hunt around or wait in lines or trade online. if the good stores near me have something interesting at a moderately reasonable price i'll pick it up, but that's about it.
11/19/2019 10:40:35 AM
it's become too much of a hassle to find the allocated bottles. and sorry, i'm not going to spend 1000's of dollars in your store just to get on your good side for a chance to get one bottle.
11/19/2019 2:14:16 PM
what are the odds of winning one of those abc lotteries? what's been your guys' experience in the past?
11/22/2019 12:02:55 PM
I don’t think the board that serves me even has a lottery. I also don’t know how they distribute allocated stuff. Nobody has an answer.
