Does Howell have a timetable as to when he might decide?

After all this teasing, Brown better commit to us. I'm hoping we start to wrap this class up by the first signing period.

Didn't we all realize we weren't getting Wall already?? If we get Brown and Favors(or other descent big man) in 09 and keep harrow and leslie for 2010 does it really matter that we didn't get Wall, we would have a serious talent pool to work with. I've been really skeptical of Lowe lately, but his recruiting efforts are fucking stellar. He's already putting in work on the 2011 class with LaQuinton Ross.

It's hard to describe what a player like Wall would do for our program. One he would be an instant fix to our backcourt problems and we'd have potentially the best backcourt in the ACC and perhaps even the nation since Brown is most likely coming here. Two he would potentially be able to get us a deep run in the tournament like an Elite Eight appearance, and who knows might help us do some other things like beat Carolina twice in the regular season, beat Duke at Cameron for the first time since what 1995, and perhaps get us an ACC Championship. Three, and probably the most important aspect for getting Sid's program in the right direction in a hurry , is the amount of exposure a player like Wall would give for the program. Wall would be a lottery pick and perhaps the first or second point guard taken in the 2010 draft. The media would be talking about our program a lot b/c we signed the top point guard in the 2009 class and Rivals #1 player overall. We might get a good many more nationally televised games. This would help us in recruiting tremendously. Why do you think we are in so good with Favors right now? There are two reasons. One Sid and Larry Harris are recruiting him very hard, and two he saw how JJ improved b/c of Sid's NBA knowledge.

Wall is an outstanding talent and while he won't make or break this program, no player is that big, but he would get the program jumpstarted in the right direction. If we sign a class consisting of Wood, Brown and 1-2 of these big men (Favors, Kelly, Howell) then we'll be well on our way to competing for the ACC and being top 4 in the league again, especially with Harrow and Leslie coming in soon after. I think it's great that Sid has us in such good shape with so many elite level players.

I agree with everything said about Wall. However with our history and the fact the media is NEVER on our side...I don't want to be a part of anything shady whatsoever. I hate to jump to the conclusion that Wall is shady and involved in shady things, but it sure seems that way right now. Prove us wrong Wall!

Yeah I don't want Sid to be a part of anything shady, unless it gets us a national championship that can't be rescinded . But seriously I want to run a clean program, but I don't mind them toeing the line on what's acceptable recruiting wise. A number of schools do it, in fact I'd say a majority of schools do so. Some of the stuff mentioned in that ESPN article on the football recruiting with the Oregon comic books as the focal point didn't really seem all that bad. As long as schools aren't paying recruits, giving their handlers/family jobs, buying their family stuff, sending them out to strip clubs and having the women that are their tour guides on their official visits organizing orgies for them, then I'm ok. Maybe Sid should be like Pete Carroll and make up a facebook account. That reminds me of the Chuck Dynamite cartoon where Sendek is on the computer talking to recruits.

Are we legitimately looking at any other PGs for 2009 other than Wall (who looks like he's going to go to the highest bidder)?

I don't think I buy this, for every Derrick Rose there is a Jerryd Bayless...bringing in a all star PG is no guarantee that you'll do anything in the tourney. Plus Rose had a superior cast of players around him, Memphis had been to the Elite Eight the previous two season and Rose just pushed them over the top. Bringing in one-and-done players is a risk that pays off sometimes and not so much others.

haha
just playing the devil's advocate

last year definitely wasn't jj's fault. i'd say the train wreck of a season was more due to crappy pg play and the apparent lack of motivation by the team, maybe due to the coaches' game plan of "get the ball to hickson as much as possible"

[Edited on July 25, 2008 at 12:53 PM. Reason : but yeah, i'll gladly take talented players, regardless of how long they plan on staying.]

I think it is expected and necessary for him to keep his job. Great is getting us to the next level. Not to what we were from '02 to '06.

yes, it is. these need to be the players we're involved w/ every single year. he needs to start making good w/ some '09 recruits. incoming class is meh, '10 looks really good right now provided he can keep them both... '09 has to be a really solid class.

although we all know this already.

^x7 the key word there is potentially. never did I say it would be guaranteed. it's far more likely that we'd get a deep tourney run that year, like an Elite Eight appearance with the best PG in a class than some guy in that same class that doesn't have NBA talent. of course getting a one-and-done point guard won't guarantee you a deep run in the tournament, but it will probably give you a better shot at it.

We don't really need anymore point guards. We have Degand and Javi(who showed a lot of improvement over last season). Lorenzo Brown will also probably see time at the point to spell those two, and then with Harrow coming in the following year we should be okay at that spot.

Isnt Brown a combo guard anyways? He's not tall enough to play the 2 in the NBA, so you would think he would have to make the transition to the 1 in college.

Quote :
"Long term may be a combo guard. Known primarily for his ability to score the basketball. Sees the floor well which often times causes him to force passes. Can get buckets as needed and when he's locked in could be a deadly scorer. Tendency to coast because he's that talented so he's bringing it each time out is something to work on."

What I like about Lorenzo Brown is that he's supposedly a very good defender, which is rare coming out of high school.

I think it's b/c of things like this that everyone is almost sure that Lorenzo will be donning the Red & White.

There is a highlight vid of the Breakdown Hoops Festival which took place last week in Miami on this page. Richard Howell and CJ Leslie are in it.

I believe Leslie is #15 that blocks the shot and then the coaches and fans of the opposing team go crazy b/c they thought it was goaltending. It's close to the midway point in the video.
