I'm kind of rooting for the big 10. I don't really like these ACC teams.
Duke and Purdue are both playing terrible basketball. 12/2/2008 9:30:37 PM |

It doesn't look bigger than the RBC Center. The stands are just at a lower incline so the cheap seats appear farther away from the court than the ones in the overhanging decks of the RBC Center. It tricks the eye.
vs.
Ok I saw this during a GIS and had to post it. The Canes did give hockey something of importance, cheerleaders! How come no one ever thought of that before?

Count the rows of seating then. I quickly counted it and the lower level of the RBC Center alone (including the two rows in front of the students and the 4 rows of student seating) has around 32. Assembly Hall's entire arena only has like 38 rows. Like I said with Assembly Hall's angle of elevation making the cheap seats look farther away, and the eye is tricked into thinking it looks bigger than it really is. If you actually stood in both about mid-way up the stands aligned with mid-court you'd think that the RBC Center was bigger b/c you'd have a 360 degree view of the building.
The hockey full arena view from up top shows how massive the RBC Center is.

So UConn gets Stanley Robinson back for sure after Thursdays game @ Buffalo. He is a 2 year starter at a position of need for the team (SF). He seems to have his personal issues under control now and will add A LOT to the team. I feel getting him back solidifies UConn on the UNC-level and head and shoulders above the rest of the country.
UConn will have more losses than UNC and probably Duke because they play in a harder conference (THIS YEAR ONLY) so don't judge them on that...
Also, they are still awaiting word on 5* recruit Ater Majok, who is yet to be cleared by the NCAA since he went to HS in Australia. He won't be a HUGE part of the team in '08-'09 but he can provide useful depth and minutes should foul trouble come in. Generally the NCAA waits until they have to for these clearings, so I expect him to join the team when Stanley Robinson does.

i hate UCONN but it looks like they're one of the two best teams next to UNC (kind of like 1999, with Duke/UCONN being the best teams).. I will not cheer for them, but if they are the only team that can take out UNC, I'll take it. don't want Hans to get a title 12/2/2008 10:01:00 PM |

I know that the NCAA wanted to use this game (UNC/MSU) as a way to run through preparation for the Final Four, but they could have done something to try and get more people in the stands. Sell the tickets really low for like $10 or something. That would help simulate the Final Four and all that will be needed better than the small (relative to the size of the venue) attendance that's at this game. 12/3/2008 9:28:07 PM |

Vitale LOVES the sport and I respect that... he has also always been very complimentary of NC State and has much respect for the program. He was also one of V's closest friends...
He does love Duke and UNC and Boeheim...

UNC is playing at such a ridiculously high level that if they play like this they won't be beat this year. Bad parallel with Duke/UConn in '99 though. UConn was a comparable team all year long, had the same overall final record, was #1 the longest that year and played in an exponentially better conference that year. UConn didn't lose a single game all year long in which they were healthy. UNC is head and shoulders above everyone this year while Duke wasn't in '99. 12/3/2008 10:04:29 PM |
