we were supposed to play that show too but we had to cancel, its been crazy hard to get everyone free for shows these days with full time jobs and all.

PS Ive never figured out why MHIM added a 3rd guitar player. I'm not knocking them and they are friends of ours, I just wasn't quite sure why.

Haha. Totally forgot about that. It sounds like the most diabolical of plans, however!

^^ That band has fail written all over it. I'm sorry dude.

holy tits.

Deathspell Omega - Kenose is some of the best black metal i've heard in a while. It perfectly mediates the album before and after it.

ill have to check it out for sure.

in other news we are working on the 8th song for our album now, im pretty excited with how everything has turned out so far. still got a lonnng ways until we are ready to record but it is still looking like june/july will be enough time...hopefully. we dont have any vocals, lyrics, keyboards done for the most part and still a lot of writing to do on drums but of course actually writing the base structure on guitar like we've been doing is the hardest part.

really liking what ive heard so far. heavy, atmospheric, epic, but not actually somewhat original sounding and not just a ripoff of the masses of bands out there ripping off isis or something.

"Cripple God" is pretty sick. just the first song I played.

"Oceanic" is the one I listen to the most, but yea they are a little slow and might take some getting used to. However, they are one of the first bands I heard doing this type of stuff a long time ago so I'll always have an interest in them. "Oceanic" was the first album I picked up from them and really liked it.

Yeah, the only band i've heard recently that has this style, but isn't 100% rip off is Lesbian, but i think i mentioned them in here a few weeks ago. I just wish the samples on their myspace did that album justice.

i still want to add one "isis-esque" part on our new album. I love that style, I just dont know if I could do it for a whole album without feeling like I was just rehashing that genre. We had one to end a song on our last record that really went over well and it was probably my favorite part on the record.

okay this is much better than the other album.

I've been writing more mastodon style riffs (mostly referencing Call of the mastodon and a little Remission) riffs and the other guys are liking it because its a break from the standard "Oh there should be blast beats or double bass" style that they'd playing so far. I wish i could get into the monumension era enslaved type playing.

oh yeah also check out Pineapple Thief. They're like all these isis bands but without distortion and harsh vocals.

these two songs.

its weird, they're right after each other on the album and half almost the exact same structure and riff style. either way i dig the second halves of both.

yea, some of the times it sounds good and some of the times it sounds terrible to me on the songs ive heard. like on cripple god on their myspace, i love 99% of hte vocals at the very beginning but some of the words when he does it it just sounds really off and nu-metalish. like every 5 seconds he throws in one that just sounds bad to me /shrug.

but i love all the music and for the most part i like his vocals too.

yeah i can buy that. i'm kinda used to ignoring bad vocals if its not so pungent that it ruins the whole song. i kinda haven't noticed that since the first few times i listened. their clean vocals are also weird but i like it for some reason maybe because they don't overuse it every time they turn off the distortion. that being said, no one can beat scott kelly at these vocal styles

also guitar question: in cripple god, do you have any idea what effect that is when they come out of the clean verses? it sounds kind of like sweeping chords but theres no way they're playing it that fast and that cleanly.

I just pulled out my old Carnivore album... if I ever start a band, it's going to start out as a Type O Negative cover band. I want to be more like Peter Steele.

Except for the whole Playgirl thing.
