^ well, the question was based on the supposition proposed by ^^^.
If the statue had anything to do with infertility on the island, then it would have to have been destroyed after 1977, when the baby was born.

However, I guess we can assume it was not there in 1974. The first jump after Locke changed the wheel, they looked up and saw the statue and there was no well. Then there was another jump to 1974, the well was filled, and presumably the statue was gone (or they made no mention of it, which I assume they would have since it was apparently easily seen from the well)

i didn't mean to allude that the destruction of the statue is what caused the pregnancy situation on the island, just that it could be related given the overall theme.

i would also suggest that we don't know if that one girl got pregnant on or off the island and that is why she wasn't affected, but we can assume from what we have learned, i.e. miles saying charlotte was looing for where she was born, that she was born on the island with no issues.

does anyone recall why the pregnant women falter? i know their uterus prematurely ages but have any other clues been given?

juliet mentioned a couple of times that the pregnant woman's immune system turns against the fetus.

i kind of feel like the fertility issue is really only a problem for Other women, similar to how the 815ers got healed while ben got a tumor; it's almost like the island is rejecting them.

I like richard being from the future, one of dharma's missions was a project to extend people's lives perhaps in the future he stumbled upon the answer where dharma could not.

So we can all agree that Richard is hiding many secrets.

And we can also agree that this island is a mixing pot of people from different time periods before 2008.

So either the egyptian culture, if that statue is of any Egyptian origin, was brought from the island or the Egyptians discovered the island and took some knowledge back. It would make sense that someone would think to be around to protect the island and it's secrets as the consequences of having people come and go at will would cause abuse of its power?

My one question is if the island never loses it's properties and we as far as we know there is no evidence of influence from further in the future than 2008 does that mean that nobody ever finds the island after 2008? Surely someone else would stumble upon it at some point by sheer accident and find a way to travel back through time. But, if nothing could ever be changed then there would be some evidence from the future in the past if it ever had happened, like we have seen with Locke and Co. influencing what has already happened in the present through the past.

I think Richard is from the future (post 2008), and that there are others from the future but this has not been revealed to us yet. I don't think that our main cast of "originals" are the the last set to do this. This is just the song that never ends.
