^ yeah. here are my thoughts on O'Reilly back from page 7, after watching only Fox News (while visiting my grandma) for 2 weeks
Quote : | "My biggest surprise after 2 weeks was that I O'Reilly actually gets a raw deal from the left (unlike Hannity and Beck - they deserve all the derision they get). I discovered a couple things - 1) O'Reilly certain can be and often is a total dickhead. When he is passionate about a particular topic and is certain on his position, he is unrelenting and totally bullish. This is where all the clips come from to discredit him or make him seem unhinged. However, 2) on a surprising number of topics, he is actually quite moderate, or even if he is not moderate on the topic, he gives a fair chance to his guests and is, yes, "fair and balanced". He regularly has guests on his show who are much further to the Right than himself, and when talking to them, he often stops them and backs them up, and interjects "no, that's not fair", "ok, enough with the hyperbole", "if you listen to what Obama actually says", etc. " |

For what it's worth, O'Reilly was the speaker at my sister's graduation from college (he also graduated from Marist College) and he seemed really down to earth and funny. Of course he is pompous... he couldn't do what he did on a daily basis without being like that. 9/21/2009 4:08:19 PM |

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/internal-fox-email-addresses-standards-after-912-flap/
Quote : | "Mediaite has obtained an email from Fox News Vice President of News and Washington managing editor Bill Sammon to the staff of the D.C. bureau, in the wake of an FNC producer caught pumping up the crowd during the 9/12 tea party broadcast.
The email, with the subject line “standards,” addresses the controversy head-on: “We do not cheerlead for one cause or another,” writes Sammon. Full email after the jump:
Sammon uses the incident to drive home the need to be objective:
We do not rile up a crowd. If a crowd happens to be boisterous when we show it on TV, so be it. If it happens to be quiet, that’s fine, too. It’s not our job to affect the crowd’s behavior one way or the other. Again, we’re journalists, not participants — and certainly not performers.
It’s not like the crowd needed to be riled up – every time reporter Griff Jenkins (whose focus is features – and ambushing – and not news) mentioned Glenn Beck there were loud cheers. And as TVNewser writes today, the practice is “fairly common.”
But in the wake of this controversial ad, which attacked their competitors for their poor coverage of the protest, the appearance of tampering with the crowd’s mood had to be addressed by Fox News.
Here’s the full email:
From: Sammon, Bill Sent: Monday, September 21, 2009 2:25 PM To: 005 -Washington Subject: standards
For those of us who have only been at Fox for a relatively short period of time, it’s useful to remind ourselves that, as journalists, we must always be careful to cover the story without becoming part of the story. At news events, we’re supposed to function as dispassionate observers, not active participants. We are there to chronicle the news, not create it.
That means we ask questions in a fair, impartial manner. When approaching interviewees, we identify ourselves, by both name and news organization, up front. We seek out a variety of voices and views. We take note of the scene in order to bring color and context to our viewers.
We do not cheerlead for one cause or another.
Indeed, any effort to affect the crowd’s behavior only serves to undermine our legitimate journalistic role as detached eyewitnesses. Remember, our viewers are counting on us to be honest brokers when it comes to reporting — not altering –the important events of the day. That is nothing less than a sacred trust. We must always take pains to preserve that trust.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further, please stop by." |

I didn't see the frog get tossed into the water. I thought I saw the one he caught hop out of his hands as he was taking it out.
Maybe he was pulling some sleight of hand to make people think he was tossing the frog in the water when he really never intended to.
Or maybe he mistakenly thought he caught one and tried to act like nothing went wrong when he tossed the non-existent frog into the pot.
I'm kind of torn between the two. Regardless, it was a completely retarded and unnecessary demonstration of an analogy, and is pretty typical of Beck. 9/24/2009 2:21:55 AM |

here is a long article on Beck's radio-background, covering pretty much everything he did in the 80s and 90s, including his jobs as one of the original "morning-zoo" type DJs, drinking and drugs, and converting to Mormonism. It's not really a take-down, like you might expect from Salon, but appears to pull mostly from public record and from Beck's own words from his previous books and interviews. So, it's not like it's a big expose that brings out hidden things about Beck, but kind of interesting nonetheless http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2009/09/21/glenn_beck/ http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2009/09/22/glenn_beck_two/ http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2009/09/23/glenn_beck_three/ 9/24/2009 9:34:46 AM |

I enjoy fox news. Its almost all I watch. I don't agree with most of their values but its just good quality television which is why they have so many viewers. Hannity and Beck speak from the heart. They twist facts, distort information(SO DOES EVERY NEWS SOURCE), over dramatize events and constantly bash obama but it still makes for good tv. If you can''t listen to something you disagree with then you have no hope of ever moving forward as an individual, party, government, or society.

CNN is in no way remotely near the level of sheer ridiculousness as Fox. CNN's is not "intellectual" but at least they're not batshit crazy retards.... or pandering to batshit crazy retards. whatever ever Fox's deal is, the end result is the same
MSNBC can be almost as bad. and yes, Olberman is a toolbag. i dont watch MSNBC.
