Is this what they call polishing a turd?

After having constant axle troubles in the racer, i decided to start from scratch.

the dana 30 got TNT truss and coil buckets, all 1/4 axle brackets from barnes, new 4.56 gears and carrier, and a spartan locker. Also replaced one of the chromoly axles that was twisted. It will get new ball joints and go back underneath the jeep next weekend.

I took my Audi into the shop for brake issues and they said that it needed a new brake line and a fuel system cleaning. The brake line runs right next to the fuel line, and when I went to pick it up today there was a major gas leak coming from the fuel line right next to the break line.

How in the HELL did this happen? Do fuel system cleaning frequently give gas leaks, or did they fuck something up when they put in the break line?

^^^ what axle shafts is it running? thats what will establish its turd status or not. If you have big chromo axles in there i'd call it a light weight 1-1.5 ton if its stock 27 spline... then at least its a high pinon without the damn vacuum disconnects (but its starting to be a little more shiny brown)

almost hit a deer on the way home last night. I swerved and slid sideways down US1 for a short while.

now one of the tires goes "thump-thump-thump" at low speeds... I believe I separated one of the steel belts when I did that little panic maneuver. wasn't planning on paying for a new set of bridgestones for a while

gears are stripped in the passenger power door lock motor in the dakota. bought one off ebay, but the fuckers sent me the wrong one. found a ram with the same door latch at the junkyard today. hopefully the gears aren't stripped in it.

the reason i want a second one is i'm about to go to a 3.5bar maf and i don't want to just *trust* the calibration it comes with.

^^ LOL iphone autocorrect FTL

FYI while they may look very much alike, a 98 ram door latch will not work on a 98 dakota

anyone going by LKQ anytime soon?

If you guys could offer advice on the situation I'm about to describe I'd appreciate it. Or you can make fun of me too, whatever

I changed the oil on the Integra two weekends ago (this being the first time I've performed an oil change on the new oil pan that zxappeal helped me install in April '10). Obviously it was all very routine and went without a hitch. Well when I looked under the car the next day i saw that oil was leaking out (very slowly) from the oil pan plug area. I know I didn't cross thread the bolt as I replaced it by hand and only used a socket wrench for the last bit of tightening. However I didn't use a rubber gasket on the plug so I decided to drain the oil (to reuse of course) and re-tighten the bolt, this time using a rubber gasket.

The oil still leaks out. WTF is going on here? How did I fuck this up?

^^^yeah, passenger door latch from a dak with power door locks. let me know if you find one.

[Edited on June 22, 2011 at 12:33 PM. Reason : all you need is a phillips and a couple torx screwdrivers to get it out. the rods can be a pain.]

take all the rods loose from the latch before you take the 3 torx bolts out that hold it in the door. rotate 90 degrees around the window track and you won't have to take the track out.

[Edited on June 22, 2011 at 12:34 PM. Reason : adfs]

[Edited on June 22, 2011 at 12:35 PM. Reason : ^^had the same problem on my s-10 and that^ fixed it]

I think the Integra uses an aluminum sealing ring on the drain plug.

^thanks for the tip. However I have an aftermarket oil pan on the car now so the plug size/design is different. The shop I stopped at yesterday didn't have a copper ring in the size I needed but the nylon ones I got instead seem to be doing the job.

12 hours and no drops of oil!

just put in a new 5th wheel hitch (the one that came with it didn't work ), poured in some seafoam, and wired up a new brake controller receptacle. when the tank runs out, I'll be changing the oil, fuel filter(s), air filter, electronics, and probably getting an alignment.

go to autozone and get a plug that matches your hole and it will come with the proper aluminum crush washer for ~$2

[Edited on June 30, 2011 at 9:04 AM. Reason : well it's not a crush washer but it's soft enough to crush some]

I'm having the same issue as teg...I will try the brass washer...if I can get the GD oil drain plug out. The last owner/changer rounded the shit out of the thing and I'm already a pansy as it is and can't get any leverage crawling under the thing

I traded the '52 dodge for an '87 toyota pickup.

This thing has dome decent parts, 5.29 gears, rear locker, dual cases with 4.7 gears in one, crossover steering etc. i have ordered some parts for the front axle, and plan to ditch the body lift, double shacles and rear blocks. probably try to swap the 38.5" boggers for some 37" MTs

not sure...i needed to have an HVAC actuator replaced anyway, and was going to have a dealer do it...so i just had it towed to Hendrick. I figure that if it's just as simple as a broken caliper pin, or even a broken caliper or something, it can't cost THAT much for an OEM part and dealer repair on that. At any rate, I haven't really looked at it, other than what I could see with the wheel on.

You have no idea how much time a dealer can waste trying to extract a hardened steel bolt. I wouldn't be surprised if you end up with a whole new spindle

Audi just recently got the fuel line and gas line fixed. On Tuesday, I will take it back in to fix a strut that is incorrectly mounted to the frame. This causes a non stop rattling noise when driving it around.
