^those salaries are on the backend of deals negotiated when those players were worth something

or they were negotiated by other teams, and they were acquired as an expiring contract or a short term fix with the knowledge that salary would not be on the books for more than 2 years

^so will Stoudemire when he renegotiates

you took what i said way too literally...all I meant was that in general, the best players will make more money than players who are deemed to be the best solely by statistics

You are seriously off base if you think they're dropping tens of millions of dollars on dudes because of just what they see with their own eyes.

You took what rally said too literally. No one is doing any serious analysis using 100% statistics. Don't be a tree, bro.

I can't believe anybody would say Nene is a better basketball player than Amare

Unless you're like Ernie or rally, and blindly trust numbers more than your 2 eyes

Because they believe some magical formula gives them insight into sports that nobody else can attain any other way!

^^^they look as statistics and efficiency ratings, sure.

but my point is, if they only used stats, Nene would be making top 5 money. not that he isn't making a killing now.

Kobe wasn't a top 10 player this year according to rally

agree or disagree

^rally's argument is that it does, and thats the best way to rank players

you seem to be blindly agreeing with him this whole time, I figured you'd at least be paying attention to the thread

I never put in any commentary other than saying it's dumb to

1. Analyze using 100% statistics
2. Analyze using 100% eyeballs

But, yeah, Kobe was not top 10 this year. I don't see how you can argue that. He scored a lot of points, but wasn't very efficient. He's not even top 10 any counting category. His resume sucks but I guess he was fun to watch.

And I'm not really paying attention to the thread

[Edited on April 20, 2010 at 12:33 PM. Reason : I never argued for or against WP, either. Sometimes I wonder what thread you're reading.]

So there are at least 10 players in the NBA better than Kobe Bryant? Cause that was rally's argument...because this season he wasn't top 10 in WP, that means there were 10 better basketball players than Kobe Bryant in the NBA this year...thats what you're saying too? Cause thats still ridiculous

And I'm basing it on the fact that Kobe is still EASILY one of the top 10 best players in the league

Which 100% of NBA analysts would agree with in a heartbeat

But I guess Ernie and rallydurham know more than Hubie Brown and Doug Collins

Except for the part where I said he was fun to watch. Implying that I did watch him play lots of games this year and he did not pass the all important eye test.

They interviewed him on the evening news last night and he had an ice pack and one of those electronic stimulators for the muscles around it in a wrap while he watched practice.

He said it hurt worse yesterday than it did during the game, but that he was a 100% go for Weds.

I love Jack's attitude.

If Raymond can play a better 1st half and Orlando cools off a bit from 3 this thing can 1-1 headed back to Charlotte.

I like it Larry! And anyone who has a problem with Coach Brown's language has probably never played an organized sport past the age of 12 or listened to a locker room speech. He's trying to get our team motivated to win, and if he happens to drop a couple curse words who the hell cares. Get em Cats!

Derek-

Were you offended that the first Hornets coach was named Dick Harter. Some of the boys used to call him Dick Harder. If in the late 80's Rick had written, "Dave Hoppen was a great part of them team, but you will never see another Dick Harter." would you have been offended. Don't be such a shithead."

"-- Charlotte Bobcats coach Larry Brown's message to the players Tuesday, as he assembled them for practice:

"Yesterday, Orlando took the day off. That's how [expletive deleted] seriously they're taking us.''

Now, it's certainly Magic coach Stan Van Gundy's call whether his team would benefit more from practice or rest Monday, and there were two days between games. But you can't blame Brown for seeking motivation wherever he can find it.

-- Bravo to Gerald Wallace for finishing third in the balloting for Defensive Player of the Year. Orlando's Dwight Howard appropriately dominated the voting, having finished the season as the NBA's top shot-blocker and rebounder. Atlanta's Josh Smith was second and the Bobcats' Wallace third. Gerald got one first-place vote, 29 seconds (including mine) and 21 thirds.

--Stephen Jackson seemed to be moving around just fine on his left knee (bone bruise), so if there was any doubt he'd play Game 2, that's settled.

Yeah who cares if Amare averages more points, rebounds and blocks than Nene in only 1 more minute per game, shoots 7% better from the FT line, etc

Here's my question for you: Is Nene a better basketball player than either Carmelo or Billups? Is Nene a better basketball player than Kobe Bryant?

yeah, cause per game stats, when comparing one player to another and mentioning the minimal minute differential is completely irrelevant to everything

Not completely irrelevant, but close. The fact that you think their MPG being close is an important point says a lot.

I'm done here unless you actually have something interesting to say. I'm not gonna have another battle for the last word.

The fact that I can tell you without looking at any stats at all that Amare is a better player than Nene, and rally saying the complete opposite, should tell you that I "get" the eye test, and his whole basis of judging every player based on WP was the whole reason for argument in the first place

But no, instead act elitist and judge people based on what stats they worship

I'm just looking forward to rally giving all the credit to Gasol and Bynum and Artest when LA wins the title again this year

And a lot of the emphasis on the WP stat is based on productivity per minute...thats why a player who hustles hard and gets 10 minutes per game can supposedly contribute to more wins than a guy who plays 40 minutes a night but at a slower overall pace...again, all relevant to the things I've been arguing

thats not true. Wins produced is based totally on minutes played. You are confused with PAWS which is a per minute measure.

I think you forgot to factor in pace of the game. The Suns play uptempo. Wins produced takes that into account.

If Amare is so great why has he been on the block for the past 4 seasons with somewhat limited interest?

Again, Nene is a more important basketball player than Amare if the goal is to win. If the goal is to sell tickets then Amare is more exciting to watch. Perhaps thats why your eye test is so off in this case.
