trading either Stewart or Williams is completely retarded

I'm gonna say 9-7 on the year

and my main point continues to be that Smith didn't hurt himself in some physical flag league with a bunch of adults, which would be a foolish thing for him to be involved in

he broke his arm on a fluke play with some kids

and 6-10 is pretty pessimistic...we went 8-8 last year with Delhomme as the QB for most of the year and a much harder schedule, our all pro left tackle missing half the year, etc

do you honestly think we'll go 6-10, or are you just trying NOT to sound like a homer?

to put things in perspective, in our 15 years as a franchise, we've failed to win at least 7 games twice

you think this year will be the third year that we finish with less than 7 wins

yes i think we go 9-7...i am under the impression that losing Jake Delhomme might get us an extra win...you are under the impression that losing Jake Delhomme (and Peppers I guess) will get us two less wins

and I don't think 9-7 is a homer pick by any stretch of the imagination...its not like i said 12-4

half the teams in the NFL are going to finish somewhere between 6-10 and 10-6

and i really don't see how I'm a homer just because I try to explain the details of Smith's injury, since a lot of the criticism he is getting is built on false information in the first place

I am with TT. No way, the Panthers lose more than 7 games. I can honestly see a 10 win season. With the schedule we got, and the run game we have we can control a lot of games. Delhomme lost 3 games by himself last season and we went 8-8 in spite of him.

Give it up junior

I would guess you don't understand how running backs decay overnight near the age of 30 (see LT). With his contract up after this year, instead of franchising the guy and paying him a top 10 salary in a two back system, you deal him and get a cornerstone player for the future (what should have happened with Pep in '07).

I wouldn't expect you to understand that, though.

yeah lets trade Deangelo

that way when Stewart gets hurt, we can rely on Matt Moore to pick apart defenses for the rest of the season

maybe Tony Fiammetta can rush for 1,200 yards

because the Panthers have a QB of that caliber

if you had said trade #34 for Brees or Manning, thats one thing

but you want to trade half of the best RB duo in the NFL for an unproven rookie

no thanks

and if we traded Deangelo to get high enough in the first round, with the way rookie contracts are setup, we would most likely be getting an unproven rookie and paying him more than we would pay Deangelo this season

so lets recap:

- we get rid of a proven player who is only 27 years old, and doesn't have to carry the ball 40 times a game since we have stewart

- we get an unproven rookie player

- we end up paying more money than if we didnt trade Deangelo

NOTE that i wouldnt be nearly as opposed to this after the upcoming season, depending on the CBA, etc

but to suggest trading him now is ludicrous

You're always in like 3 minutes after this thread is bumped

Do you carry a pager around that goes off every time someone replies to this thread so you drop what you're doing and rush to the internet and champion the cause of the Panthers?

yes

and Ribs, I agree with most of your opinions on the Panthers

but I think trading our best offensive weapon not named Steve Smith, when he's making less than $2 million next year, is a completely preposterous suggestion

oh by the way, this is great...Florio has some kind of obsession with Steve Smith now...he doesn't just think we should bring in Terrell Owens...he thinks we should cut Smith and bring in Owens...man he sure does hate Smith

1. You'd have to get inside the 20s for that player to be making more than Deangelo.

2. Both sides are trying to fix rookie contracts in the new cba so that unproven rookies dont sign for so much money and that money can be allocated more to veterans.

I don't know if I see 9 wins out there... Sorry I just don't think Matt Moore is the answer. They do play St. Louis and Cleveland, but besides that there aren't any other gimmies out there. Seattle should be an easy game, but they could really turn it around this year. Tampa Bay should be 2 winnable games too, but it is divisional.

Soooooo.......
I predict 7-9 or maybe 8-8 and Clausen thrown into the fire towards the end of the season.

Maybe not the ultimate answer, but he's an improvement over Jake's last few years....He might not win many for us, but he won't lose any either.

fwiw, I think Moore will be fine if given a fair shake.

^ Being a Broncos fan, I'll go ahead and tell you that having a QB that doesnt lose games doesnt work out as planned. Kyle Orton was not supposed to lose us games either

Some interesting comments from Smith. He sounds more ticked than remorseful.

Quote :
""I wish I could take it back," Smith said. "But I am a regular guy outside of football. I mow my grass, too. I can get my finger chopped off fixing my lawnmower. I could roll my ankle playing tag or slip-n-slide with my kids. In hindsight, yeah, I won't do it again. But I was just having fun, playing with some guys..."

The 31-year-old Smith did make it clear on the radio interview that he won't play flag football again until after he retires. "I'm going to sit in my bubble. That's what I'm going to do for the rest of my career," he said. "That would be better for everybody."

I would be pissed, too, with everyone giving him shit for it. It's not like he was doing something completely stupid and off the wall and purposefully putting himself in harm's way.

i dont feel like hunting it down but HOW did he break his arm in flag football...being that its flag football and all and it should be about speed and evasiveness and very little contact

if it was through contact then i would be pissed at him
if he went up for a catch and came down and broke it i would be pissed at him
if its anything else that is out of his control and just a fluke accident then he's forgiven

deangelo has more mileage left in him than steve smith does, and steve smith, while a great player and a potential td on any play, is not nearly as important to our offense as deangelo is.

im not trying to be an asshole about it, but trading deangelo williams for one first round pick is absolute lunacy. someone would have to overpay to get him, and that shit doesn't happen in the NFL.

[Edited on June 25, 2010 at 12:38 PM. Reason : but i mean you are right in the fact that (almost?) every player had a price they can be had for]

Not feeling too good about this upcoming season...Our defense is going to blow ass except for Beason, and our sole saving grace will be our running game, which all of our opponents will key on because they know that's essentially our only strength. Looks like we'll have to wait for Clausen to develop and when we actually get some fucking draft picks without trading them away
