The situation sucks, as does the race card.

Sure, is there a very minuscule percentage of the population (probably less than 1%) that is acting differently because Lebron is black.... of course there is, but I really don't think it's a racial issue. I am sure there are people out there who won't eat watermelon because black people are often stereotyped to like it, but does that make pomology a racially charged topic.... of course not. But sadly, if a majority (aka a white person) questions the use of the race card, then they are then by default, racist.

I think that in general, the public response to any athlete doing something stupid is about the same, regardless of race. Of course, most of the really famous athletes are black, so we don't have a lot of data to compare. I think the data that we have, for instance Kobe and Rothlisberger's rape charges, shows us that if an athlete does something dumb, they are going to be viewed in the same negative light regardless of race.
