The uniforms are alright. The red does seem a bit too bright to me but maybe it will look better on the field than it does in the video. They do seem to be pretty clean-looking & traditional which I think is a good thing.

Although, being familiar with brand development professionally, I have to say: I am not a huge fan of the whole "State" movement. There are way too many other state schools that people will confuse us with on a national level. To be referred to as "State" between a bunch of guys chatting over a beer or something--sure, but not for the basis of our entire national logotype.

I understand the need to refresh your look & feel as an organization (especially with new leadership), but "NC State" was the way to go from a branding perspective, IMO.

Oh well.

The Red & White starts out with "We're the Red & White from State" and then has NC State at the end.

The fight song says "Shout out for dear old NC State... GO STATE"

It's a mix of State and NC State.

I really like the idea of just State on the front, but I wish they had made it bigger and left out the black outline. If you're going to plain you might as well go all the way and make it look really vintage. Otherwise I like them, although it doesn't really make a big difference.

Look at the states around us...Virgina, Maryland, Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama

We're the only D-1 State school within 500 miles.

We are the definitive "State" to anyone in the southeast.

iowa state (they have yellow w/ it usually)
fresno state
ohio state (different shade, and if you don't know you're watching Ohio State, then that's your own fault)

A lot of these concerns seem really silly to me. The announcers will probably always say "NC State" just like they do now, regardless of what the AD says. That's what I think anyway. I'm sure the Buckeyes want to be referred to as THE Ohio State all the time but how often do the announcers actually say that!?

We're known as State mostly within the borders of North Carolina (and somewhat, as Slave Famous said, the southeast.) So yeah, that's most of our fanbase, but we're not marketing to make ourselves look better TO OURSELVES. We're already fans. We already pay money to this school.

The point of marketing is to create a recognizable image to people beyond our already-established fanbase, to create curiosity and ultimately excitement about a brand (in this case, both our school and our athletics) and eventually generate revenue because of that.

internally we often refer to ourselves as state. externally we are known as NC State. Used to be State, as in State College. Not anymore. I don't care what Yow says. Our uniforms are representations of our university to outsiders; we know who we are; others may not. You generally don't hear NC State referred to as State from outsiders; in fact, other, more popular universities come to other's minds when someone says "State".
