My Thieves Guild quest line is bugged. I can't get the mission Dampened Spirits after I complete Loud and Clear because I stole an item from Honningbrew Meadery at like level 5....60 hours ago. So I may have to re-roll to be able to advance in the theives guild.

When you finish the loud and clear mission you are supposed to immediately start Dampened Spirits and go speak with Maven. I'm never prompted to speak with Maven.
The wiki for Skyrim says that if you stole the Honningbrew Meadery Decanter before you get to this questline, then Brynjolf will never give you the Dampened Spirits quest.
(from the wiki)If the player breaks into Honningbrew Meadery before being given the quest, the quest is never offered to the player after the completion of Loud and Clear.
hope they patch it soon, a lot of people are having issue with it 11/30/2011 2:22:13 PM |

that's why it was dumb (that aspect, anyway)...if no one SEES you steal something and it's not something unique, then you should be able to get away with it...it shouldn't show up as stolen in your inventory, either11/30/2011 2:33:09 PM |

Sorry for the confusion. In Morrowind if you stole something or did something that would affect or killed somebody that would affect a quest a popup would immediately notify you like you can't do this because of that or this person is dead or a major quest person was killed. 11/30/2011 2:43:03 PM |

i stole guard armor from vivec in morrowind...no one saw me as i was inside and there was no one around...i dropped it immediately because it was too heavy...walked outside and every guard in sight attacked me...and continued to do so for the entirety of the game whenever i'd come back

Same as the other 99% of PC players. It's tedious, inefficient, and clearly handicapped for the more casual controller user (vs. keyboard and mouse).
Just one of the many, many annoyances that demonstrate how grossly unpolished the technical presentation of this game is.

Reason I'm not posting as much is because I am afraid of giving anything away if I mentioned it. I'm not that far into the main quest (I guess). I've wiped out the Dark Brotherhood (and stole Astrid's armor and Blade of Woe), I'm the Harbinger of the Companions (seemed pretty short to get it, too), Arch-Mage of the College of Winterhold (liked the quests myself), and am working my way up the Thieves Guild.
I'm on level 44 (or 45). I own Breezehome, have sets of Dragonscale and Dragonplate Armor, am Sneak level 100, Speechcraft level 100 (thanks to El Nachó! ), Smith level 100 (obviously), and just realized that the Ebony Bow is slightly better than the Glass Bow I've been using. I will probably use the Daedric Armor perk the next time I level.
I have not joined the Stormcloaks or Imperial Legion. I have decided not to be a follower of Namira, Mephala, or Mehrunes Dagon. I got absolutely destroyed the first time I tried going into Azura's Star.
I've killed two Dragon Priests, and more than a few dragons.
I like to use the Blade of Woe for sneaking, but can definitely handle myself with a Warhammer.
And, I like to take long strolls up to my waist in the frozen tundra that is...SKYRIM! 11/30/2011 10:22:15 PM |

I am sitting at 48.5 Full Legendary Daedric armor, mace, shield, and bow 100 Smithing, 100 Sneak, 100 Speech, 100 Heavy armor, 100 Block, and getting close to 100 1H weapon
I am the leader of the companions, but that's it.
No stormcloak/legion JUST started thieves guild (hope i can kill them all) JUST started the mages college Have not yet been to Solitude to continue the main story
No dragon priests. Not sure what those are? I am past the 20 dragon achievement on steam, and past the 50 dungeons cleared achievement.
I am going to focus on enchanting next to really get my gear going.
I am over 130 hours. The most ive sunk into a single game was FFX, and that was at 180+ so this is definitely going to catch that and surpass I think.
I havent played in a couple days though.

Since you are that far in...
The daedric armor has higher base stats than the dragon armor which I assume lends itself to higher upgraded stats as well. So why is dragon armor at the pinnacle of the smithing tree? I guess because dragon armor can be either light or heavy, so it's naturally at the top, but they still could have made it converge on dragon at 90 and then go up from there to daedra at 100.
I guess I'd do it differently as a heavy armor user if I started over. Get smithing up to 100 to be able to upgrade to legendary, or whatever the highest is, but only take the perks up to daedra since that is the best. Granted I don't have enough daedra hearts to do anything, but I'd still rather wait for it and use that perk elsewhere.
Also, I've seen exactly two daedra in the game. One random encounter fairly early on and one that I was warped to when I got to the end of that "maze" where you have to use each of the magic disciplines to progress. Two hearts. Where are you finding enough daedra to come up with the quantity of hearts needed to create and upgrade a full set of armor?

They are. But they don't always have masks.
If you do the Mehruns Dagon shrine quest, you can choose not to get the razor at the altar. If that happens, two Daedra appear who try to kill you. If you kill them, you can take their hearts and a key to the shrine interior, where you can find a few hearts. 12/1/2011 7:39:15 AM |

I guess I hit those guys early on since for a while I focused on going to the graybeards and asking them for the next word location over and over again. Those guys were at the end of several of the locations they gave.
Also, the graybeards stopped giving locations after a while. They say they haven't heard anything but assuming that I've found at least one phrase of every ability there is and assuming each ability has three phrases I can tell that there's at least 6+ more dragon walls for me to find. I guess I'll have to resort to a guide, but I'd much rather do it as in game quests. 12/1/2011 8:02:04 AM |

I imagine the courier can still help. For those who don't know, if you shout in a town a few times, after a few hours, a courier will run up to you with a "Letter from a Friend." The letter starts the same way, "I notice you created quite a stir when you used a shout (Thu'um) in (pick your town). You should check out the secret power in (pick your dungeon/cave/etc.)" 12/1/2011 8:22:23 AM |
jbtilley All American 12797 Posts user info edit post |
Interesting. I shouted in a town once and the most that happened was a guard threatening me, so I just saved the game (so I could reload later) and wiped out the entire town.
I guess some of those NPCs were important quest related people because they wouldn't die. 12/1/2011 8:31:02 AM |
kdogg(c) All American 3494 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah...just wait a few days after the guard stops you and you should get a letter. 12/1/2011 8:53:19 AM |
Lokken All American 13361 Posts user info edit post |
Alchemist vendors have a chance to sell a daedric heart, so i just kept checking them in every town. Didnt take long to get the hearts.
As far as shouting in town goes, I do it all the time. The guards complain but it never goes farther than that. Also until you find the shout power that a letter from a friend indicates, i dont think you can get additional letters. One at a time type deal.
Ive never killed a daedra nor have I found a heart. I have encountered 3. House of horrors, some random shrine in the far west, and the guy from a night to remember.
I guess I should continue the questline, ive seen no dragon priests. I think maybe one early on with some mask I didnt look twice at.
Most quest lines or dungeons I can do the running 1 hand power hit to 1 shot anything i run into so I dont think i progressed through the game as they intended.

Found some cat people traveling merchants that had 30-40 lockpicks (everyone seems to stereotype us as thieves! but we're not. wink wink). That helped a lot.
General store guys usually have 5 or so
And if you pickpocket anyone, they seem to have a lockpick. Leveling pickpocket for the inventory upgrade is well worth it. Except if you do it first everything kills you 12/1/2011 1:08:28 PM |

you have to return it if you want to complete the thieves guild questline...if you don't care (or if you want to get your lockpicking up to 100 with it before returning it), there's no real downside to keeping it12/1/2011 1:46:12 PM |
