heh. not this time.

not because the bon iver record isn't a huge deal for the store, just because the last few midnight sales haven't gone great.

i always thought the love for discovery was really misplaced. i hated that album when it came out. pretty much dismissed it as over-love for vocoding/autotuning.

this might have already been discussed but i am really slow and only get new music when i get ultra distracted and go on like 3 hour what.cd downloading binges

BUT

i really like this wu lyf go tell fire to the mountain

it is really strange. but awesomely strange. i have been listening to it all day.

also on my need to listen list: new cults and gang gang dance and fucked up

i saw cults got rated pretty high on pfork. the thing is (and i haven't listened yet) i just didn't really see them having that much staying power or making a radical record or even a unique record. but maybe i am just stupid.

^Those Cults songs are pretty damned catchy and have the tendency to get stuck in your head all day. That's most of its appeal.

I like the Gang Gang Dance album.

I just listened to a Wu Lyf song earlier. According to their myspace page, they love them some SVE...

^^ yea i thought go outside and most wanted from last summer were pretty catchy

the new ones to me are catchy but don't have as much "get stuck in your head" staying power for me. but that is just me. they're def catchy but more forgettable for me. *shrug*

I'll have to check this out. I may just blindly buy it somewhere, I dunno. But honestly, I thought the one song I listened to; the vocals were kinda obnoxious...

How is the band name pronounced? Anybody know? Is it pronounced "woo life" or is it an acronym where you pronounce all the letters?

good music, though, digging it on first spin. i could see thinking that the guy's voice is kind of obnoxious, but i think it'll grow on me. his voice kinda reminds me of the lead singer from man man.

I'm thinking that this whole Ford/Lopatin, Oneotrix Point Never (what even is that?) gang are a bunch of hacks. I don't like either of these things, really.

really like the Wu Lyf album. been waiting for something like that to come out for a while. remind me of some combination of Man Man, Wolf Parade, and maybe the Animal Collective album Feels.

good review of Mount Moriah on Pitchfork today

new Pictureplane leaked... didn't do much for me on first listen.

gave WU LYF some more play this weekend and it's definitely growing on me. the vocals are a little goofy at times (see "we bros"), but the instrumentation/arrangements are very solid throughout.

Still trying to get into WU LYF after 3 listens...but can't.

Found 3 new tracks from the upcoming newest Weeknd mixtape...and his old EP that's 5 songs (that I'd be shocked if they weren't on his upcoming).

i feel like such a jerk that i have to confess to the music thread.

i pirated rolling papers a few months ago and didn't make it much farther than black and yellow, but gave it another try tonight and the second half of this album is totally sweet. i'm so sorry, wiz khalifa.

me too.

the drop in the last minute was pretty unexpected and nice.

i've only barely read about it, but it'll be interesting to see how her concept of the album is handled/executed.

Foster the People's debut is enjoyable. On first listen it sounded a little generic, but it's grown on me a little. Good pop record.

thanks to siriusxm i was burnt out on pumped up kicks before the record even dropped. and now it's finally starting to spread to mass radio and it's happening all over again. a few of the other tracks on the record are pretty enjoyable though.
