I was actually thinking about it last night after the hit that Boston came out being more physical than normal - especially Thornton and anyone checking Burrows - dont know if it was because they were at home, were trying to change the tone of the series, or seek retribution for the Burrows biting incident.

Rome was just dishing it back out and sending a message to Boston, he just made the hit a little late and made a guy leave on a stretcher.

I guess I'm blaming Boston for Horton getting knocked out

if that hit deserves a 4 game suspension, then tim thomas should get at least 2 games for his hit on sedin, or lucic for punching burrows in the side of the head when he was down. what a joke.

i feel bad for horton, but he was turning right and looking left, watching his pass. keeping your head up is like the first thing you learn to do when you start playing contact hockey. rome barely left his feet, and like someone said before, there were way later hits against the boards that didn't get called.

if Horton didnt land weird with his head hitting the ice before the rest of his body, and he was able to get up and skate off the ice, nothing wouldve happened. The fact that there was a 10 minute delay while they loaded a guy on a stretcher, at home, in the Stanley Cup Finals made it pretty tough for the NHL to let it go unpunished

I, too, think the suspension is harsh. I agree that a lot of factors bigger than hit played into the decision, but 1 game would of been sufficient imo. I live less than a 1/2 mile from the Garden so I have been rooting for the Bruins, but this town does have a certain attitude when it comes to sports that I don't really jive with. I hate seeing athlete taunt each other and act like children. I'm all for a good clean hit, but this bullshit instigating needs to stop. I'm looking forward to seeing some more intense hockey.

I also thought Thomas going all commando on Sedin was bullshit, and it makes it worse that the announcers on vs were like Fuck Yeah, he was all up in your crease.

I would've been okay with two games, but I think four is harsh. I also agree that Horton probably could've skated off is his head hadn't bounced off the ice from seven feet in the air.

Last time I checked, you can hit someone who has the puck or is in its immediate vicinity. There's no rule against goalies throwing hits.

A couple of the announcers were saying it should have been a penalty on TT, and it should have. He wasn't going for the puck, and he should be suspended 4 games.

The puck was traveling from Sedin's hand to his stick blade, and he propelled it towards the net as Thomas hit him. How is that any different from any other Boston player delivering the hit?

i wasn't literally saying thomas should be suspended, just in relation to what rome got. it was an obvious penalty, he blasted sedin, who didn't have the puck.

My point was that it wasn't just "a punch". It wasn't in a scrum. It was a punch to the back of the head of a player on his knees, who wasn't engaged with anyone else on the ice...from a player who has a history of taking cheap shots. With all this talk of wanting to cut down on instigating and poor sportsmanship, I don't think that starting with Lucic is too much of a stretch.

if a defenseman hits sedin there, it's no penalty. not in the playoffs.

there's no rule that says a goalie cant deliver a check. it opens him up to get hit, but that's a fair play.
