But what the team really cared about was having the most beloved player, the best player, and the heart of the team return to give them the best shot of winning.
Classic case of an idiot "leader" being out of touch with the people he is leading. 10/1/2011 11:12:12 PM |

man, Wisconsin students seem like a ton of fun. Russell Wilson is playing out of his mind, but his run game make it way easier for him. Good for him, making a good decision for his future, going to play for a real team instead of playing for state. 10/1/2011 11:17:46 PM |

Quote : | ""oh, wilson is playing baseball, wont be around the team during practice".... sure didnt seem to matter with Wisconsin, who he had NEVER been around." |
that's because it didn't go that way. Wilson didn't sign up and then say "hey, see you in 6 months." He signed and then showed up and started practicing. It's like you can't even read a newspaper.
Quote : | "i dont think anyone actually felt he needed the practice, it was a coach's authority thing trying to be fair and appear to be fair to the rest of the team so it wouldn't look like he was favoring one player over the rest" |
Not only that. It's a matter of the coach actually running the team, not one player.
Quote : | "my point is though that Wisconsin has somehow dealt with that same issue and been fine... " |
no, they specifically haven't! Wilson wasn't crowned king and then allowed to do whatever the hell he wanted. he was expected to come in and do everything that everyone else was doing. He signed, he started practicing with the team. how in the fuck do you not see the difference?10/1/2011 11:19:25 PM |

it's pretty difficult to keep up with everyone's opinion on this whole matter
nobody is a TOB fan, no one thinks RW was an egotistical cancer
(I neither agreed nor disagreed, I understood the decision) people that agreed with TOB's decision knew that this year would be difficult, the real payoff on the decision will be the next QB that he is able to recruit, as well as obviously Glennon's performance late this year into next year

^^^ I can't believe people actually think that allowing the players to run the team is a good thing after Chuck Amato and Sidney Lowe proved it wasn't. I can't believe people actually think it would be a good decision to allow one QB to leave in the hope that another would be there despite all indications being to the contrary and forcing that prayer to fall back onto a pretty bad 3rd string QB for two years

give me a break with that line. ALL of Chuck's success was due to PRiv. That's accepted fact at this point. PRiv left, Chuck's true colors showed. 3-9 and getting waxed by Akron is not exactly the model of success. Penalties every play is not exactly the model of success. Multiple penalties a game for lining up incorrectly is not exactly the model of success.
^ when RW was playing BB for NCSU, that's different. He was recruited with the expectation that he would play both, and accommodations were made for that, and that is A-OK. You know what you are getting in that respect. When RW then signed a pro baseball contract, though, that shit goes out the window. The precedent he did set was letting RW play last year, and that may be why he was not going to allow it to happen this year.10/1/2011 11:41:21 PM |

So, is it completely impossible to be of the opinion that Russell Wilson made the decision that was best for Russell Wilson? And that Tom O'Brien made the decision that was best for the future of NC State Football? And that both parties will long term benefit from the decision?
Besides, if you really are a fan of Wilson, you should be glad he left. He wasn't going to up his NFL draft stock at NC State this year. He can, and will, be noticed at Wisconsin. He's the same player as he was last year, and he went from unknown outside of the ACC to Heisman frontrunner just by virtue of being on a better team.
Now, I just have to say this, because I can't stand seeing aburro repeat this line. Wilson DID NOT hold the team hostage. It wasn't Favre-ian. He was afforded the opportunity to try professional baseball and have football as a fall-back. He didn't have to commit to NC State, and he was by no means obligated to NC State. He GRADUATED, and he had every right to try his hand at baseball.
He was free to continue playing baseball and not come back, leaving Tom O'Brien preparing his Offensive Line for a pocket QB rather than a duel-threat at the last minute. It would also leave O'Brien getting his WRs prepared for a different QB who has a different style. Every time Wilson came back in previous seasons, it took a few games before the team was in sync with him, because they hadn't practiced with him in the Spring.
And most importantly, O'Brien had to prepare for the worst case scenario, in which Wilson would have chosen baseball, Glennon would have transferred, and we would all be currently wanting Marcus Stone Leatham to come in and replace Jay Davis Brosius. If we're going to go through growing pains, I'd rather do it with Glennon playing right now with another year left rather than waiting until next year.
We were NOT going to win the ACC this year, regardless of QB. Period. 10/1/2011 11:49:18 PM |

I gave TOB the benefit of the doubt on this and the "go for it in 2012" idea until I actually saw Glennon play. He isn't good enough to make that move. You don't actively go out and make your team worse10/1/2011 11:56:01 PM |

Unfortunately we'll have to wait until the end of next season to see if 2 seasons of Glennon is better than 1 more season with Wilson
and as the old tOSU alum in the upper deck told me in Columbus during Rivers' senior season, "aren't you a basketball school?"

funny you mention Michigan State
they let a talented back up QB (Nick Foles) transfer instead of forcing him into the starting line up. Another of the young back ups at the time (Cousins) is their QB now and led them to the 11-1 season
Who is to say Brosius isn't good enough to start in 2012? Or that one of the guys we're bringing in isn't a stud that could start as a true freshman?
