i pulled this out to try online play again (i couldn't do the first race mission before which meant i couldn't do anything except walk around), and while I can do the race someone just drives by me and explodes every time I spawn.

what's the point of online play? am i missing something?

^^There really is no point. The biggest point of it was to do the heists, and those don't seem to be coming anytime soon....a full year after release.

If you like shooting random people, racing cars/bikes and buying fictitious clothes/cars then yeah...you could have fun. Thats about it though. For such an open world, its a rather mundane game online.

I have the most fun just stalking people and killing them over and over. Got this one guy in the desert with a sniper rifle and I was on a hill with some bushes for cover - dude came after me twenty times before he finally gave up. Many lols were had.

I finally started playing this again. My cousin wanted to see it, so I had to download like 6 expansions or whatever you want to call them to play online.

This game is still great, and has so much potential but the load times and the amount that it freezes or I get kicked out of lobbies is so annoying. Hopefully, it will improve dramatically on the next gen systems.

I just don't understand how the matchmaking system can be so bad.

quite honestly, they didn't try.
rockstar is putting all their eggs in the next-gen basket. they really shouldn't have even released on the old gen. not sure if they were afraid of losing sales to the division or watch dogs (lol on both counts for different reasons) or if they were just that greedy (most likely).

yeah that's kind of what I figured. I went to the midnight launch and got the game and just remember thinking...why didn't they just wait?

the online heists are like the last card in their hand.

on a different note, I really hope they'll set the next one in Europe or maybe even Tokyo - there is so much they could do with that.

A 1920s Chicago would be cool too.

plagued with server issues for weeks
plagued with saving issues (really?!) for weeks
advertised heists as a big deal for multiplayer, STILL haven't delivered
plagued with glitches liked cars randomly flying around on the road, including cops
had several ways to actually make money and rank up legitimately, and removed them
the multiplayer is supposed to be all about "crews" with your friends, yet there is no party system to get a group together so it's join, rejoin, rejoin, until you get four people in the same lobby

If you removed online updates... none of these games could be viable as standalone single player games. Everything is shipped incomplete nowadays. It is a bad trend

^^^My bad. 994 awesome things then. I guess if you only focus on the negatives and ignore all the positives anything can look bad. To call it a bait and switch is straight up fucking retarded though.

It's true multiplayer isn't as awesome as it could be. But it never really has been the main focus. It was never advertised as being the main selling point in the first place. That would be the single player portion of the game. If you bought GTA 5 and all you got was the multiplayer portion, I can see why you might be annoyed. But you bought GTA 5, you got GTA 5, and the multiplayer should be looked at as a bonus. I don't really see where the "switch" part of any sort of bait and switch claims would come into play. Then again, you're still whining about server issues that happened during the first week or so of online play, so you really are struggling hard to come up with anything even remotely close to a valid point.

you know, you're right nacho. they barely even mentioned the multiplayer aspect. they didn't make a big deal about it or promise anything from the beginning. really, i shouldn't have even expected to play with others... just single player... what was i thinking?

they advertised features they were -months- away from including, and one of the biggest features still isn't out. that's called bait and switch. by the way, there are still server issues. half the time i connect to a server i'm staring at clouds for 5 minutes only to be told the connection to the server was lost. then i get to try again.

I just hope the load time on the servers and whatever else is faster - that's why I stopped playing. It wasn't the lack of content but just the fact that I'd wait 10 minutes a damn game lobby only to have the game freeze when we went to start

I tried playing the other night on 360 and I went online... it only put me in empty (private?) lobbies. I don't get it, can you only play with other people if you are in a clan?

The multiplayer never turned out as I hoped, but the single player was so awesome I might have to get it again. Probably on PC to see what kind of mods come out for it.

Ah, you just got to have fun with it. I love to join a session and go after the red-dot players (those are the ones who are marked aggressive right?)

Trade a few hits back and forth and then escape away and have some fun getting into the army base and come back and light them up with a jet.

I, too, would like to know if this is worth it. The multiplayer was fun when you weren't waiting 20 minutes to get in a lobby and then get dropped without reason, which was easily 50% of the time. If it was fast and well populated like COD/Halo matchmaking it would've been fantastic.
