mediocre bowl games aren't anything to get excited about, especially when just a month ago we had aspirations of a good bowl game

maybe i'll get excited a month from now when i miss college football

I don't think anyone is. Which is why I don't understand anyone who doesn't get the pessimism.

"We're in a great place" should be "we're in the same place which I guess could be worse but also slightly better with better end game management one out of those 3 times we made bad endgame fuckups this year."

And yes I know it could be worse but come on. Can we hope to maybe someday get more than 50% of the breaks?

Honestly all I wanted was a better bowl than Charlotte.

"slightly better with better end game management one out of those 3 times we made bad endgame fuckups this year.""

I just don't see how end game management has anything to do with the mistakes players make. these are young college players and they make mistakes. its not just our team. good teams lose big games every week because of mistakes. theres only a handful of programs that are good enough to get most of the breaks.

unless you believe there is something about Doeren's coaching that led to the mistakes.

I don't know what happens in practice but i think its pretty hard to believe that Doeren could be doing a bad job or ignoring the importance of telling the kids how to execute basic fundamentals like

-protecting the football near the goal line
-throwing short middle with no timeouts
-running out of bounds for a sack
-snapping the ball early before the motion guys are set for 2 seconds (qb wasnt even ready for it)
-missing chip shots
-lining up in illegal formation

I chalk these up to the monumental pressure on players who realize they are on the cusp of doing something that has never been done at NC State and the weight of the world is on their shoulders at these moments. It would be different if these were mistakes we made consistently throughout the game but they always seem to occur when we are about to do something big.

If you think these are coaching/management flaws on Doeren fine, but I'd like to see some evidence. If not, then I'd like you to shutup about "end game management" once and for all. I'd say that the end game management is what put the players in position to make the back-breaking errors. If I start to see the same mistakes year after year with new players (like if the new kicker kills us), then I'll believe its on Doeren, but until then, its inconclusive.

I either want Charlotte or Nashville

It doesn't look like we can get to Nashville, so I'd rather play in Charlotte than some BS town in an empty stadium that no one will travel to even though its technically a better bowl

Any game in FL is preferable, especially if the SEC can't fill its slots and we play some CUSA or Sun Belt team. Even St Pete would at least be against USF and Charlie Strong has them growing. And speaking of USF coaches, another option that's appealing just for something different is potentially Oregon in the Sun Bowl, since we never play the Pac 12.

Giglio says Orlando or gator with a win, Sun with a loss. He usually reports with sources from bowl committees to know who would get picked with identical records

St Pete is a possibility if there's not enough AAC or CUSA teams. That's how it's set up.

I'm not going anyway, I just want a good matchup. Sun vs Oregon or Utah interests me more than WV, who we play next year anyway.

We could go to the Chick Fil A bowl...which is a thing they sell for breakfast now. We can all buy one and then go watch NC State vs University of Texas State-San Marcos, Southwest Campus or whoever makes the Belks Bowl and get the hash browns all over our new Belks slacks.

Why is VT at possibly 5-3 in the ACC if they beat UVA being discussed for the Citrus bowl, but State at possibly 6-2 if we beat UNC not?

VT has a much larger national following then us. Also, same overall record. I get that scenario.

And for all those other idiots (I had to look this up) reading Giglio's last tweet, CW= Camping World bowl in Orlando.

Because they would take a 9-3 VT team over an 8-4 State team. And would likely still take an 8-4 VT team or 8-4 Lamar Jackson over State as well. We were in the driver's seat for that bowl and lost it. Bowls are about selling tickets and VT has probably the 2nd best traveling fanbase in the ACC, next to Clemson. Deal with it.

Win and we most likely go to Florida. Although, that could change with a ND loss which would push them out of a NY6 bowl and into one of the Orlando bowls.

I kind of want to go to the camping world/micron PC/micronpc.com/tangerine/Russell athletic/champs sports bowl myself because that's basically our bowl game.

I’m hoping for Orlando as I have family there. You can often find good deals on Orlando hotels, and there is a lot to do around Disney and Universal without actually paying for admission. Certainly more of a destination than Charlotte (I’m from Charlotte and while I do love my hometown and it has it’s own share of things to do, it can be quite cold come late December/early January).

I think we have a pretty good football fanbase travel-wise. I’d rank us 4th after CU, VT and FSU, and just ahead of UL.

I was dabbling in the stats and noticed a few things like how we had no QB hurries vs Wake...

Fun trivia question

Guess how many combined sacks our dline had vs Wake, Clemson and USC?

UPDATE: Little more research and our dline doesn't rank better than 27 in any metric on here
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ncaadl

in 2016 they were really good but they have sucked this year after bringing everyone back which indicates that having a bunch of srs and then not should not really hurt us. i think it probably has more to do with dayes

6-2 in the acc for the first time since 1994. for our prigram, this is a milestone season an a huge indicator of process. great job guys!

Can’t argue imo ^

Had Hines been 100% all year we maybe looking at 10-2 but those are the breaks...everybody deals with injuries. We obviously still need to improve to keep up in the ACC but this was a very good year, one of the best in a long time.

We are currently 8-4 before our bowl game. In 2010, we finished 9-4 with a 5-3 record. Is 8-4 (6-2) really a huge "milestone" season compared to 8-4 (5-3)? What if we lose our bowl game and finish 8-5? Shit, Earl'd again.

I mean, 6-2 is our best conference record since 1994. Also this was a tougher schedule and acc than that season.

Is it waaayyy better than the year you’re talking about? Probably not way better. But definitely better

Edit: I don’t care that much about the bowl...it’s a glorified exhibition. Of course winning is better than losing but I wouldn’t put added weight on the bowl games.

6-2 is obviously better than 5-3

But would a potential 8-5 (6-2) season be a "milestone" compared to a 9-4 (5-3) season? Both result in 2nd in the division and not playing for the conference title. Bowl games might be glorified exhibitions, but if 6-2 is so much better than 5-3, isn't a 9-win season so much better than an 8-win season?

I feel like best conference record in nearly 25 years is pretty close to “milestone” for a middling program like ours. And again, I’d argue we did it in a tougher conference. The milestone isn’t necessarily all that impressive in general, but neither is our football history over the last 25 years. I’m saying we should have a parade and honor this team every 10 years at midfield or anything. But it’s pretty impressive imo

I guess it can also be looked at in hindsight in 3-4 years. Was this year a turning point in recruiting and on field results or just an outlier? I know thats impossible to quantify right now and still won’t be black and white answer in 3 years. But this can’t be about putting together a solid season before slipping back over the next few years. It needs to be a jumping off point (duh)

There is no Gator anymore. The full naming rights went to Tax Slayer. It's the Tax Slayer Bowl. So get ready for a stupid name regardless unless we drop to Annapolis, which honestly I'd rather have. A likely matchup with Navy is more appealing than any SEC also-ran.

Reminder that the NOT Gator Tax Slayer Bowl is also not the same level as it used to be. It's behind both Orlando games.

Some projections have VT in New York. Why they wouldn't vault over us for Jacksonville I don't know. I have a feeling they may. I'd be ok with NYC.

Charleston Post and Courier says SC is likely going to the TAX SLAYER Bowl. We won't be then.

https://mweb.cbssports.com/ncaaf/bowls/predictions

Now THIS is more like it. NYC vs Iowa. Good job if so.

There is no order for the tier 1 bowls to pick.

Just hope the B1G loser ends up in the Orange Bowl, otherwise the ACC only gets one Orlando bowl and ND will take that spot.
