Eh, it depends... with my mom I'd rather talk to her by email, but I'd rather be on the phone than in person and she complained (rather rudely to other people) about how I didn't talk to her or dad enough, so I figure this way she'll just find another reason to bitch about me to other people.
Most other people I'd rather talk in person with, as long as there's something to talk about. Being on the phone means occasional random silences, which can be avoided online or made awkward in person.

most of the floor in their house was completely covered in rabbit shit. they had eaten through the drywall and were living in the walls. chewing wires and shit. they got all the rabbits out that they could find and were having a "oh yeah, the house is looking a lot better, we made a lot of progress cleaning today" moment and they look down the hall and 2 or 3 more had come out of the wall. they took 24 rabbits from there altogether.
