howell should not be shooting threes. period.

evidently it was an x-factor in his game during high school, but we're not in Kansas anymore

i think he hit his first couple 3's of the year, or at least a decent percentage in his first 5 or 6 tries

which only got his confidence up and probably had to do with him jacking up some of the more ill advised ones later in the year

I think its worth it even if he misses them that we pretend hes a threat from out there so smith can't get big to big doubles.

with harrow and leslie next year...who is the other team going to double off of? this recruiting class is going to open up EVERY other position. you cant leave harrow, brown, leslie, howell, javi or wood open to double team tracy.

and especially not TBDV

I really think you guys have memory problems if you doubt that Harrow is going to take the starting job away from Javi. Javi is slow, can't defend other guards, and is apparently allergic to driving the ball. Barring significant offseason improvement, I don't see how Harrow doesn't take the starting spot by January at the latest.

i have faith in sidney. if harrow is better, he will start. i think that there will be a big learning curve for playing college ball, so it may be that javi starts for the first 10 or so games, but once we start getting into acc play, harrow gets the start. no matter what, we will have an exceptional guard, and a good backup.

The three point shot is something that Howell will have in his arsenal his Junior/Senior year probably.

when javi played well he was considered one of the better pgs in the acc. When on he can be amazing (see arizona and duke games). he was just too inconsistent. Coming off the bench is good for that type of player because if hes off we can shut him down and if he's on we can ride him out.

He will make a GREAT backup pg.

But we have 2 decent to good PG's and zero decent to good SG's. I can't forsee many situations where Brown should be playing PG when we have Javi and Ryan both on the bench.

Maybe if we're trying to go big and we put wood at sg I guess.

we're a lot deeper at the 1 than we are at the 2 or 3. brown shouldn't be playing much point if ryan or javi are available.

maybe we shouldn't be so quick to pigeonhole players at one position... if we have two of javi, lo, & ryan in at once, any of the three could potentially bring the ball up the floor, right?

Javi was not amazing in the Arizona game, he turned it on at the end. While I admire that, it would've been a lot nicer if he'd put points up throughout the entire game.

He's just way too inconsistent to be good.

If we finish top 5 in the ACC, that's a happy ending considering the past years.

Hopefully, we are past the age of unrealistic expectations. Let's just be glad when these guys don't finish at the bottom and they win some big games.

I hope we can finish in the top 4 b/c I think Lowe would have a more realistic shot at winning the ACC tourney if his team didn't have tired legs from playing 4 games in 4 days, provided they got to the championship. He's shown that he can coach pretty well in tournament play. We need to get the bye that the top 4 teams get.

^^you need to rephrase that to being favored to win an acc championship. any decent team can fall into an acc championship any given year. Hell, we almost won an acc championship in sid's first year.

While I don't necessarily disagree with him about tempering expectations, Dan Wiederer was just itching to write an article to put down State somehow... I live in Fayetteville so I see the paper's bullshit on a regular basis. And this isn't a State conspiracy or anything, you rarely see full page spreads about Duke but we had a week-long look at UNC basketball history earlier this year. Basically, Wiederer is a tool.. I mean, look at his picture on the front page on his personal website

Okay, who do we realistically stand a chance at landing for the 2011 class? I'm honestly getting a little nervous because we've landed no one and I haven't heard much talk about any 2011 recruits considering us. I think we'd need to land a PF/C and a PG to add depth at those positions since we'll be losing Smith and Javi. I just don't want a repeat of the CJ Williams/Mays class. That class hasn't produced and we can't afford to have classes that consist of nothing but mediocre 3* recruits if we want to be competitive in the ACC.

^chill the fuck out, it's still early...I'd say we have a realistic chance of landing Tyler Harris who is only a 2 star atm but has offers from UCONN, Tennessee and WVU, as well Chris Wilson out of Terry Sandford HS. Also may be in the mix for Rodney Hood, Quinn Cook, Deuce Bellow and Quincy Miller but those are probably longshots. Our 2010 class is now #5 on Scout:

From ESPN College Basketball Rumor Central today.

Quote :
"Can Lowe Build a Contender?

My, how quickly things change in Raleigh. Shortly after C.J. Leslie's announcement that he is headed to N.C. State, Tracy Smith declared himself eligible for the NBA draft.

Regardless, it throws a temporary monkey wrench into this fantasy lineup for the Wolfpack: Leslie, Smith, Ryan Harrow, Javier Gonzalez and Scott Wood. The Pack's other inside options, 7-foot-1 Aussie Jordan Vandenberg and fellow rising soph DeShawn Painter, are decidedly not ready for prime time. NC State fans had better hope Smith gets some notes for improvement and then high-tails it back to college.

"Now comes the hard part for Lowe and his staff - finding a way to mesh all that talent into a cohesive unit capable of winning games and getting back to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2006." reported a recent article on ACC Insider.

Can Lowe win in the ACC with Smith missing from that starting five? One would think that, even without him, the lineup is good enough for an NCAA tournament bid. As Paul Hewitt can tell you, however, a highly-anticipated recruiting class does not mean an easy stroll through Selection Sunday. Landing Leslie means that the Wolfpack should immediately be considered a contender in the ACC next season (and will likely be ranked in the top half of the conference in most preseason publications).

Doug Gottlieb
Smith unlikely to bolt early.

"Tracy Smith, Jr., NC State: He had a good, solid year, but he is no J.J. Hickson. Plus, it seems as though next season could be the start of something special in Raleigh. Smith's mother and Sidney Lowe have given an indication he'll be back. Good decision.""

How about YOU chill the fuck out? You could have left that little preface of your entire post, you ass.

Not to mention, Tyler Harris is supposedly planning to reclassify for 2012 and Chris Wilson is a 3* no-name, not exactly an allstar. And you admit yourself that we are longshots for Hood, Cook, Bellow, and Miller. Then you finish up your marvelous post by telling me our 2010 class is #5 on Scout? No shit, welcome to 6 pages ago, I asked about 2011.
