"My entire family takes school really seriously so that mitigates the fact that I couldn't give a damn about it. Look cheating runs rampant at every major college program and the best way not to get caught up in that stuff is just to turn a blind eye to every major/minor transgression along the way and then claim innocence after the fact. Also, I need a job. Yes, I've made a lot of money over the years but I spent a lot of that shit and I have really large monthly expenses."

I see that BD and Bev Perdue have something in common... they both say "scooze" instead of the more traditional "schools."

^ Not sure that I agree with you there, but regardless of what you think of him, I still think he's a reach for a basketball school that's about to get hit with major sanctions.

UNC won't react as poorly as NC State did post-Valvano, but the concept will be the same: get someone who is (a) willing to take the job and (b) going to prioritize running a clean ship.

With scholarship reductions, post-season bans, and NCAA sanctions above and beyond what UNC self-imposed (which was little more than a thumb-of-the-nose to the NCAA), I don't see any high-powered coach coming to UNC. If UNC attempts to go after a "qualified winner" rather than a "safe reformer", then they are going to have to compete with NC State which is by far viewed in a better light than UNC's program.

The only thing they have going for them is the level of talent, but any coach that "arroves" at UNC will have to deal with discipline issues on-and-off the field, NCAA sanctions, and constant meddling/oversight by the administration. Unless they can find a football equivalent of a Mark Gottfried, it's going to be dark times for a while in Chapel Hill.

^^ The ultimate NC State Shit ending of this situation would be if Bill Cowher agreed to be their coach.

I think the sheer number of heart attacks among the Wolfpack faithful would overload the state's hospitals.

/Thankfully, there's something around a made-up .0000000001% chance of that happening.

^^^Yes, but they are assumptions based on what has occured in the past. Programs that get hammered with sanctions almost always go after the 'safe hire' and almost always have a hard time hiring a 'proven winner' (because what proven winner wants to take a job where they are, from day one, hindered from succeeding by the NCAA?).

So Bobby Frasor and Jackie Manuel were hired on the UNC b-ball staff.

Didn't Frasor have some connection to the yacht that they were all partying on at Wrightsville Beach?

Malzahn is lobbying hard for the UNC job. He would take it in a heartbeat but he's still behind a few other candidates right now.

UNC will have a Bubba and Gus to replace a Dick and Butch. LOL country hicks. If they miss out on Gus, they can fall back on Skip (Holtz).

Gus would be the best hire as obviously Auburn has mastered this whole cheating thing with the Cam Newton bullshit last year.

LOL @ Brock "I look a hell of a lot like that internet creep DNL" Huard ranking UNC as his #1 job opening right now

Quote :
"The college football coaching carousel is beginning to spin rapidly, and a number of very desirable jobs have become available. As I set out to rank the best available job openings based on desirability to potential hires, I asked a handful of current and former collegiate coaches and ESPN analysts to get their opinions, accounting for eight factors: facilities, tradition, committed administration and boosters, coaching staff budget, captive local population, livability, centralized recruiting base and current talent level.

Under normal circumstances, the Penn State Nittany Lions job would be at the top of this list, but I left it off altogether because it's too difficult to evaluate the situation in State College at this point.

Instead, the top available job this offseason comes from the ACC:

1. North Carolina Tar Heels

UNC was the landslide winner among those I polled, and this job also scores well because of the area's incredible livability and centralized recruiting base. Butch Davis was able to recruit top-end talent to Chapel Hill before he landed in hot water over NCAA rules violations.

Even though Carolina is still first and foremost a basketball school, the pieces are in place to accomplish what the Texas Longhorns, Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes have done during the past decade: win big in both hoops and football. The school's academic reputation, state-of-the-art facilities and strong alumni base help create the opportunity for the school to break through on the gridiron.

The talent level of this roster is strong as well. The Tar Heels have put together ESPN's 13th-, 24th- and 16th-ranked classes the last three years, the best marks of any of the five teams listed here. Sophomore quarterback Bryn Renner has shown flashes of brilliance, and star freshman running back Giovani Bernard has rushed for more than 100 yards per game. Replacing defensive end Quinton Coples and linebacker Zach Brown's defensive production will be paramount in 2012, but the cupboards are full of enough talent and athleticism to compete for ACC titles in the years ahead."

what are the odds that the only person he polled was Heather Dinich?

My thoughts exactly.

Huard: Gee, UNC recruited well. Wonder if it has anything to do with paying players and doing their homework for them...hmmm...dah well, must be the kick-ass aluminum fan-base and the picturesque pine trees that are drawing them in. Durrrr.

What a fucking idiot.

I think the end of their time frame to hand down the ruling is just after the bowl season.

Isn't it something like 3 months after the hearing?

Fedora is a "solid" hire. Don't think he'd be able to make UNC a powerhouse (winning C-USA /= winning the ACC), but I'm don't feel good enough in where NC State sits in the "NC football program picture" to think that a new coach couldn't sink TOB's ship, so hopefully the NCAA won't wimp out on the sanctions... but I'm not holding my breath.
