Does anyone have the "Brd Flu." image macro, done in the style of the "O RLY?" owl? I'm trying to find it so I can post a link in a Facebook comment thread.

"The Eagle" was very good. Although, I would like to re-assess my opinion when I am not inebriated.

I hate being late but lately it seems like no matter what time I leave I always get here at like 9:02. Damn slow-ass trucks driving down Chapel Hill. I have been trying to leave a good bit earlier to fix that though. Today I still got here a minute or two late, but only like 5 people were here at the time. I feel oddly lucky when that happens.

I have a problem with punctuality. I don't know why, or how, I just do . Actually my 'why' is probably because I was almost raised to be late because of my mom's terrible punctuality, then I was never regularly disciplined for it to any extent. I would be on time to classes that punished me, and late to classes that didn't. I just hate wasting time and when I have spare time, I do other tasks instead of leaving.

I do get to work like 5 minutes early these days since I got a verbal warning once. Boss originally wanted me in 15 minutes early, and everyone gets here anywhere between an hour and 15 minutes early. I managed it for a week, then dropped it to 10, and have settled on between 5-10 minutes for a few weeks now.

You got a 1/5 for not being in 15 minutes early? Imo the actual start time then is 15 minutes earlier.

But you do suck at being punctual.

yeah, me and piddlebug are the complete opposite. I say I want to leave at 6, so I'm ready to go by 5:45... she is ready to go by 6:20

she's gonna get mad for me calling her out like that

she is getting better about it though. It was like our first date- she met me for a movie. I was there 20 minutes early, she got there halfway through the previews

I don't know why, but lately I have been thinking it would be kind of interesting to load up on beta carotene for a while and see what it's like to turn orange.

Don't judge me, OK.

Well I guess technically I got the 1 out of 5 because I had been late before, even though I've improved since then. Once was 30 min because I slept in (I called in when I jolted awake) and another was 5-10 min because my girlfriend was sick. After those instances I got the verbal warning and recommendation to be here 15 minutes early.

I don't know why they are so 'draconian' about being on time. Story goes around here that one employee sucks terribly at their job, and another employee basically keeps the company running. First employee is an exemplary model because they show up 30 minutes early, the other was below average because he showed up on time. He started coming to work an hour early after that I think.

We start promptly at 9, and at the last performance evaluation I was reminded that really means be at your desk at 8:59 to start work at 9. People who continually show up 5-10 minutes late have been given warnings even though they routinely stay 2 hours after we get off. The way I understand it, the boss is just pretty sensitive when it comes to time issues. We do have a sub-40-hour week though so I guess I can sort of understand him wanting us to be respectful of business hours.

what grinds my gears is that I always stay late about 15-30 minutes, or whenever I get kicked out, and several other guys my level do as well. my boss gets in sometime between 7:30 and 8 and leaves every day at 4pm. Gets pretty annoying when I need his signature for something at the end of the day.

I can't complain too much though. I thoroughly enjoy the job otherwise.

i want to be judged by my value to the company, not something idiotic and arbitrary

right or wrong, i make one of two assumptions when i learn that a manager has implemented such policies

1) the manager is not as intelligent as i am
2) the manager's direct reports are not good at their jobs and i probably don't want to work with them

I work at a small R&D company. From talking with the other guys, our bosses came from large company manufacturing environments and for awhile were trying to mass produce research. A lot has changed since then though.
