Those are amazingly clear pictures though... how did you clear out so much of the noise?

Thanks guys.

^ The photos were shot at 800 ISO so that helped immensely with the noise.

Some shots from yesterday. I had my 30D and 24-70, as well as a 580ex and sync cord to play with. I have almost no experience with a flash, but I had fun playing with it. Luckily I have friends that weren't weirded out by me taking random photos of them.

yeah, not to turn this into a debate, but i doubt pirating would stop in any significant capacity unless prices were cut so low that the profit margin became unacceptable

how do you catch those? i mean, you obviously don't sit at a window hope you snap the picture at the same moment the lightning flashes...

do you just set your camera to keep taking shots at specified intervals until it fills up the card? i can do that with my camera, but i don't know how, yet

Long exposure.
Put camera on tripod, set focus to infinity, and let her rip.

I'm assuming that is how he did it. Either that or he has impeccable timing.

I try to clean the exterior of the camera/lenses every day that I use it. I sometimes get people at the club spilling drinks on it too.

I need to send it to get cleaned though; there is too much sensor dust.

Ricoh makes the Caplio R4 - the all-in-one printer/fax/scanner/etc machine in our office is made by them. mckoonts convinced me to get it.

From what I've read, the R4 came out in England and hasn't really made it over here yet.

^Yeah, I commented on the lens assembly too.

Bored at work...what?

Both taken on super macro, right up against the screen

Yay dirty keyboards!

Yay texturegasms!

My bf took this picture, playing around. If there's ever a fire here, my books will be one of the first posessions I mourn.

Light meter- spot evaluation. Aimed it right at the filament

Tungsten setting, automatic

I forget

Quick StitchAssist...the original is HUUUUUUUUUUGE. I can't wait to use this in the mountains. This is ~120 degrees

^holy cow that last one is cool....

and haha shout out on the aim list.

the texturegasm and books are pretty cool too. the books have an old school feel. i think it's the bookcase. maybe it's just the books themselves, and the pic. idk.

i´vé béén taking somé night shots off of my friend´s apartment building rooftop here in buenos aires, but somehow i feel like the mirror is causing the extra long exposures to become blurry, because the camera is stationary on the building... is that super common? i dont have experience with "locking up" the mirror. thanks!

also: great that more people are now contributing, great shots on this page and the last.

docido: i didnt catch those shots for some reason, théy arén´t loading on this internet cafe computer, i´ll have to check ém out later

I've got a question about getting a new fast prime lens for some low light / portrait stuff, here are two of my choices:

EF 50mm f/1.8 II is only $80, cheap price for a fast 50mm lens, no USM though so its slow to focus
EF 50mm f/1.4 USM is $290, is it really worth it over the f/1.8?

Also, I know they make this lens:
EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM, its $385

Exactly what advantage does this Macro lens have over the the two above? is it just the very small minimum focal length?

^^ I have the 1.8 and I love it. Its a cheap build and I've heard of defective instances but everyone who has one can live with it over the 1.4. With that said, I know some people that live by the 1.4. If I had the money and inclination i'd get the 1.4 but I dont need it. I think the 1.8to1.4 does let in a good deal more light.

It is somewhat slow, but an amazing sharp lens. The macro capability is amazing. I own it and I am super happy with it.

As for the other ones, the 1.4 is worth the price over the 1.8 mainly because it is USM. The build quality will be MUCH higher, focus will be faster and more accurate, and it is a faster lens. You get what you pay for.
