out of that list who would you rather have? I like what Gillespie has does with A&M. He seems to have turned that program around.. not sure how old he is. I like Crean and i think he's still fairly young but we'd have to fork over alot of money.

If we are really out of the Barnes race

then

Tubby then
Tom Crean

Crean is an excellent coach although no one talks about him.

Kentucky fans want Tubby out just as much as we wanted Herb out. I am not really sure as to why but my guess would be because they havn't made the final four since 98 and they had a horrible year with alot of talent this year. I like Tubby, but would like to know if their are any other reasons for them wanting him gone.

Most of the media is saying to expect a press conference sometime today confirming Barnes staying in Texas, and his pay raise

i don't give a shit what any of these web runs say. nobody is out of the question as of now. nobody is gonna admit publicly that they are seriously considering taking another position, because if they end up not...it will screw them with their own fanbase. these articles mean shit, and they are just as worthless as predicitions being made on this very message board.

Well i don't to a whole lot about these coaches I'd prob go

1.Bill Gillispie - Texas A&M, Tom Crean - Marquette
2.Mark Turgeon - Wichita State
3.Dana Altman - Creighton (how long has he been there?) 12 years
4.Gregg Marshall - Winthrop

i just don't think these guys will be able to Recruit atleast not right away

Is Tubby known as a good recruiter? I bet the name Kentucky is good enough for most recruits. I wonder how he would do at another school.

If there is anything I have learned during my tenure over the last 20 years as a State fan is that we have not been the best at getting decent coaches. I don't have my hopes up.

If a large part of his renegociation involves more pay for his assistant coaches then it leads me to believe that he's staying in Texas(ala the Beamer situation from years past).

if calipari, barnes, wright, and montgomery all are out, then i think the next best option is Bill Gillispie. he is a solid recruiter and was key in getting dee brown and deron williams at illinois when he was an assistant.

Ummm I hate to say it but really I think the majority wanted Herb to STAY because most of us with brains KNEW this would happen. WE CAN'T GET A DECENT COACH NOW!

I want Herb back.

I mean we are talking about hiring Frank Fucking Haith. What the hell is he worth???

Fowler is keeping things tight-lipped. I actually like that we're not out there officially saying who we want and offering right away. It takes much of the speculation out when it's that open and it takes the fun away. We're not going to know anything until there is a press conference. We're just not....

"It sounds like this job is really a hot opening. Word is that Fowler has been overwhelmed with the amount of responses from coaches, agents, etc. trying to get a foot in the door for the NC State coaching job, and should Barnes reject an offer from NC State we imagine the position would be wide-open. With the amount of cash NC State appears to be offering, you can believe the Wolfpack will land a very, very good coach. It just might take some time, which should be fine if the right coach is hired."

SO FUCK ALL OF YOU THAT SAY IT WAS A BAD IDEA TO GET RID OF HERBIE AND WE CAN'T GET ANYONE BETTER!

quit listening to the pussy ass media, and let this thing play out

ALL OF YOU SAYING THIS SHIT FUCKING SUCK, EAT A DICK AND GO BACK INTO YOUR HOLES, YOU ARE HELPING NOTHING AND YOUR POINTS ARE MEANINGLESS!

AND BY THE WAY.....the majority did NOT want herb to stay, so quit repeating this nonsense as well!

I don't see how you can say the majority wanted him gone.

On this board the Herb Haters were just more outspoken but it seemed as Herb still had more support than not. If we can find a good coach then ok, but what if we are stuck with Frank Haith? Was it worth running Herb off? The NCAA 2nd round is better than making the NIT.

^^Herb apologists are just as fucking outspoken

LIES are what you are propogating here....

EVERYONE was disappointed with this season, realized that it has been a DECADE under herb, see no light at the end of the tunnel as far as this rinky dink offense goes, is unhappy with herbs intensity/commitment to our major rivals, and realize that we were set up to take major lumps next year

7/10 pack fans I have talked to say this "herb was good for the program, but I am happy he is gone, and excited as hell for the future"

^ i agree

Herb was good for us, he helped us rebuild...but I feel like he was at the end of his road and now that he is gone we have a chance to see if we can continue to build our program and become National Champions again...or at least ACC champions for a start.

i said this earlier in another thread:

Quote :
"after having thought about this, this is a win-win situation.

alas, perhaps the sentiment of "fire herb" may have been correct, but i'm glad he ultimately left on his own terms, and with a significant pay raise.

but the sentiment of "herb sucks" is downright wrong, and people who say such things should have their head checked.

Herb is finding his niche of being the "rebuilding" coach. he was just never a "championship" coach. he can play his role well, and will bring Az State up to respectability. the legacy of Wolfpack Basketball beckons a championship coach.

here's a big sincere "thank you" to a guy that rebuilt us from the shambles he inherited, and here's a "farewell and good luck" to him for the rebuilding job he has ahead of him."

i also heard from some people in hickory that are friends with the family, and evidently Mrs. Barnes wants to be back in NC
