I enjoy any comment so much more when the word milquetoast is used.

silver mt zion was really good in asheville by the way. the singer was way snarkier than i expected. plus they played mostly new stuff which was a little disappointing, but they were really good. their bassist is outstanding.

That's how she was on Conan, but I had also read she was sick around that time. This is disappointing news...

I can definitely see it being that way, but I don't really care.

Plus, I got the album for free, so $16 is a bargain.

back to pimping these guys ---

The Modern Skirts @ Lincoln Theatre (opening for Abbey Road Live, the Beatles Cover band)

$10/$12

If you miss 'em this go around, they'll be back on June 16th to headline the 506.

http://www.myspace.com/modernskirts

Seriously, these guys are solid, and are also opening up for R.E.M. on one of their European tour dates. Check 'em out.

Someone can post how Ben Folds was, but the question I really have is, how was Julia Nunes?

Ben Folds: amazing

Julia Nunes: I'm probably one of the few people that knew who she was before I went to the concert. Been a fan of years for months now. Its like Ben Folds' music...either you <3 it or hate it.

I never really got into any of her original songs, but stumbled upon her Keep Fishin' cover on YouTube a while back and have been subscribed ever since. Kind of crazy how quickly she blew up.

I saw M.I.A. play Thursday night, at what was an old armory building.

kinda like a cross between an old airplane hanger (the semicircle topped ones) and an old high school gym... and since it was on campus at Drexel, it was dry. so the sound quality sucked hard, but it was so loud that when the bass hit you felt your chest compress

it was definitely enjoyable, and probably the most eclectic mix of people i've ever seen at a show, scene kids, nerds, dudes straight from the office in suits, thugs, and then there was the percentage of people who dressed specifically for the show

i mean really, where do you find Randy Savage-esque sun glasses these days?

it was quite a spectacle, to say the least. at one point, she filled the stage with girls from the crowd so they could dance on the stage while she was singing, which was cool. however the next song she filled the stage with doods, and it was just awkward (for me!)

that and full set time, including encore and break prior topped in at a whopping 75 minutes.

some shows i'm considering:

6/14: Shearwater @ Local 506
6/20: Thao & The Get Down Stay Down @ 506
7/12: Roman Candle, Red Collar, Future Kings of Nowhere @ Cat's Cradle ($7!!!)
7/28: Ours @ 506 (probably the biggest band I've ever heard of playing at 506)
8/07: Festival and The Bowerbirds @ 506
8/12: The Hold Steady @ Cradle
9/29: Stereolab @ Cradle

and I will be at The Avett Brothers on 7/26 @ Koka.

I would live there if it wasn't filled with hippies.

I saw DJ at Kings and it changed my life.
