Thank you jesus

Quick question though: Am I retarded, or was Brown ranked the no. 4 SG in the class like a week ago? Just saw he's ranked no. 8 now...

Oh well, I'm happy

There are 2 or 3 players that I have heard mentioned that may open up another scholarship. Costner and Johnny Thomas are possibilities, and maybe another. I hope Thomas makes it back but his knee injury seems pretty horrible. There has been speculation of costner leaving for 2 years now.

Pack gets coveted hoops recruit

N.C. State secured one of its top Class of 2009 recruiting targets Sunday morning when guard Lorenzo Brown of Roswell, Ga., told assistant coach Larry Harris he is committing to the Wolfpack.

Brown is 6-foot-5 and 195 pounds and will be able to play both point guard and shooting guard in college, according to his coach, Allen Whitehart of Centennial High.

As a junior last season, Brown averaged 25 points, eight rebounds and eight assists per game. He is rated the 29th-best prospect in his class by scout.com.

"He works at all aspects of the game,” Whitehart said. “He does a lot well, and his shooting is coming along. . . .When the ball is in his hands, nine times out of 10 good things happen.”

Brown has connections to a couple other players who are committed to N.C. State in the Class of 2010. Ryan Harrow, a point guard from Marietta (Ga.) Walton High, is one of Brown’s best friends. Forward C.J. Leslie of Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh has been a teammate of Brown on the Worldwide Renegades AAU team.

Whitehart said Brown also seriously considered Florida because of its back-to-back NCAA titles in 2006 and 2007. Whitehart said Brown hopes to lead N.C. State to similar success. Brown is N.C. State’s second Class of 2009 commitment, joining Marion (Ind.) High shooting guard Scott Wood.

The commitment from Brown adds to N.C. State coach Sidney Lowe’s growing reputation as a recruiter in Georgia. In addition to Brown and Harrow, Lowe got 2007-08 freshman J.J. Hickson of Marietta’s Wheeler High from Georgia.

Hickson led the Wolfpack in scoring and rebounding last season before leaving to become the No. 19 pick of the NBA draft with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

i was very surprised that the n&o did a piece at all, and especially surprised that it was that nice quick and nice.

i wonder if this has anything to do w/ any sort of new attitude since the combination of sports sections.

I'm so glad this morning is the last morning I have to listen to the local radio on the way to work.

DJ 1: In basketball news NC State got commit from Lorenzo brown, and they certainly need it when competing for recruits with UNC and Duke.
DJ 2: huh, huh, maybe someone should call him and make sure he knows exactly which school he's committing too, huh, huh, duuurrrrrrr.

Assholes. We've gotten plenty of highly rated players (4* and 5*) in years past. Why is it such a surprise that we could land one of the top guards in the 2009 class as well? We've got great facilities, great tradition, great fans, and play in the most prestigious conference in the nation. Again why is it so surprising that we could land such a talent?

5* Julius Hodge McD's AA
5* Cedric Simmons
4* Gavin Grant
4* Andrew Brackman
4* Ben McCauley
5* Courtney Fells
5* Brandon Costner McD's AA
4* Dennis Horner
5* JJ Hickson McD's AA
4* Tracy Smith
5* CJ Leslie

Am I missing anyone else from 2000 on?

salt and D have no ties to any of the schools in the triangle, their comments just reflect on how the rest of the country looks at the triangle schools, salt is from Tennessee and D is from alabama

that's what happens when your offense involves nothing but backdoor cuts and 3pointers. regardless of player composition, the result will be mediocre play. you got bad players? you'll play mediocre ball. you got great players? you'll play mediocre ball.

to be totally fair though, we seem to suck at playing a more traditional game, too. i'll give lowe some time though, i like where i think he's heading.

Horner was a 3* on Scout and a 4* on Rivals iirc (might be the other way around though). He was a Top 100 player coming out of high school.

How long has Kelly been a 5*?! Scout has him as a 5* and the 4th best PF nationally. Rivals has him as a 5* and the 6th best PF nationally. 1) How did I miss that jump? 2) Is he really that good?

[Edited on July 28, 2008 at 11:15 AM. Reason : Just found the answer. Bumped up on July 5th. Don't know how I missed that.]

narrow his list to how many?

we've been hearing us, uga and ga tech for a good while now. if that's what he's narrowing it to, nothing's really changed.

Ryan Kelly has steadily been improving his ranking. A year ago at this time we were one of the only major schools really recruiting him. He was an ultra skinny (185 lbs iirc) 3* PF with offers mainly from mid-majors. At that time I think his 3* ranking was warranted b/c his body at the time didn't really seem to lend himself to competing with other PFs in major conferences that would weigh a good 30-50 pounds heavier than him. He has gained a fair amount of weight (he's up to 205 or 210 now) and has really improved his game. With his steady improvement and weight gain he began receiving interest and offers from bigger schools, and was bumped to a 4* player, then he ended up getting another bump more recently to a 5* player, which coincidentally was soon after UNC offered him ). I doubt he goes to UNC b/c he'd be riding the pine most likely with all of the PFs they've got. Some of them may not be as highly rated as Kelly, but have the more traditional PF body and game.

A year ago I definitely didn't care about getting Kelly. Now I would love to have him. He's worked really hard to fill his body out some.

watching video of him last year he just looked goofy, but he's gotten a lot more fluid w/ his game, made a lot of improvement.

that said, i doubt we get him.

lol i was reading this thread, went to take a shower, and then came back and was messing around with google reader. i was trying to add packpride to it, hoping to to make reading up about my ncsu news (especially recruiting news) a little easier. i add it and the top headline was something about howell committing. i thought, yeah, that's old ne----what! howell too!?!

^^and yep, i'm crossing my fingers, hoping that last year was just an aberration from what lowe can do with top-level talent.

Long term may be a combo guard. Known primarily for his ability to score the basketball. Sees the floor well which often times causes him to force passes. Can get buckets as needed and when he's locked in could be a deadly scorer. Tendency to coast because he's that talented so he's bringing it each time out is something to work on.
