They're going to have to make some really tough decisions come final cut time.

Having 3 roster spots for kickers is a bit hard to swallow, but if he can kick off like that every time (and after the game he said he wasn't even happy with his performance) then it's definitely worth it.

Because it's a slow day at work, I'm going to bring back the good vs. bad in regards to the first preseason game. Fill free to add if you see fit.

GOOD
* Peppers. Welcome back
* Thomas Davis making plays at his new WLB spot. That one hit was dynamite
* DeAngelo proving we may have wasted a first round pick (good and bad I guess)
* New players making plays: Holt, Connor, Godfrey, Otah, Moose, Birmingham, Jarrett (he might as well be new)
* Moore, and especially Basenez looked really good. He had the one INT, but that can be credited to a great play by the DB
* The first team Oline manhandled the Colts' first team d.
* Adam Seward basically saying "you can't cut me just yet."
* Our kickoff specialist. Hot damn.
* Lastly, the team had an intensity to start the game I haven't seen in some time. It was electric in there.

BAD
* Toefield has some burst, but seems to go down pretty easy for a big back
* Landon Johnson blew a few coverages, and didn't stand out.
* Jason Kyle missing a snap? Since when does that happen?
* Jake only throwing one pass. Not really a bad, but it would've been encouraging to see a few more throws.
* Good crowd, but lots of empty seats in the lower level. This always looks great on TV.
* Catman with the Phantom of the Opera mask. Just creepy looking.

Overall, very happy with the result.

agree with most of your list...Landon hasn't impressed me yet either...here's one:

GOOD
*Charles Johnson looks like he's ready to start at defensive end opposite of Pep

Um how bout

Bad: steve smith gets concussion

At least the 2 games he'll be out for will be some recovery time, unless it wasn't that serious and he can play more preseasn plays

Didn't even know about that. I remember the hit though. Moore hung him out to dry.

^^^^ are you saying that DeAngelo's performance might negate our need for Jon Stewart?

Then tell me, who would be our other running back?

And do you think that DWill can take the pounding of a feature role?

don't think so. Jon Stewart is going to be crucial to the Panther's success this year.

I'm not trying to downgrade what Stewart can bring to the team, just saying if DeAngelo runs all season the way he ran on Saturday, our running game will be incredible.

Also, Nick Goings looked good, as always. This guy has already proven he can carry the load.

if our O-Line plays like it did Saturday, and stays healthy this season, D and Stewart should be fine

Dwayne Jarrett went down in practice today. He was carted off the field, they think it's his knee. The injury curse strikes again.

completely agree. We need our marion barber because our line isnt going to dominate like that for julius jones - i mean DeA - all season...

Quote :

I thought so too. He really doesnt have the push we want ideally - but he is scrappy and has moves and vision to pressure the QB and put hands on passes to create INTs

In fact, Smith (concussion) was able to slide out of town early, since he wasn't participating in the walk-through.

Fox said RB Jonathan Stewart might play Thursday night"

Well, at least it's still preseason.

Well I hope the D comes to play and the offense can at least make an appearance. I would like to see our entire starting Offense at least take the field for one series...

well, to be fair - the cowboy fan troll might be entirely correct.

Panthers fans know that this team is always a surprise - unpredictably successful or a shameful failure - every friggin season....

If the "media" hadnt already hyped a hotseat for Fox - then we would consider this a rebuilding year. This team has changed sooooo much I don't see how you can make predictions based on any continuity from previous years....

Prolly the same reason Panthers fans came in the Cowboys thread and started the however many days it has been since Dallas won a playoff game.

yeah I hope Stewart plays...I know he travelled with the team to Philly today...they said he might play...also it'd be nice to see more Jake than the 0/1 in the Colts game, even though we didn't need him to throw anymore than that

AND LETS HOPE THE O-LINE STAYS HEALTHY

True, but a shameful failure for the Panthers is still always right around .500 record wise....one good thing about fox is that we always have playoff hopes up to the very end, even when we have major injury problems.

muhammad got rocked. i cant believe he came back into the game. got to give him props for that.

that was also one of the worst pieces of officiating ive seen so far. the ref is right on top of it, the balls rolling on the ground.... "good enough for government work"... td. unbelievable. Are preseason refs rookies or something?

yeah its true...tore his ACL during a punt return in the 4th quarter

ironically, the same day, Drew Carter, now of the Oakland Raiders, tore his ACL and is out for the season...for Drew Carter however, its his 3RD TORN ACL

^yeah Hackett is still hurt...I honestly do see Moose and Jarrett as the 1 and 2 receivers at least in week 1...even if Hackett can play, who knows what kind of timing he will have...Jarrett has looked a lot better than last year though

Moose and Jarrett will probably be OK, but we won't have anyone to stretch the field....however, if Rosario is able to step up, he could break out.

If the run game is as strong as it could be the safeties will have to creep up and that will help out the receivers

Since Smitty's suspension, week 1 has seemed like a definite loss, but I'm not quite as pessimistic as I was...Merriman won't play, Gates has injury issues of his own, and we've looked pretty good
