Week 4 Preview

ACC Preview:
10 of the 12 ACC teams are playing this week with two conference games. UNC takes on VT at home and Wake Forest travels to Doak Campbell to take on Florida State. There should be some exciting games this week as ECU is on the road to NC State and Miami takes on Texas A&M in prime time.

Games:
Miss. St. (3-0) at GT (hey now 79) (3-0)
East MI. (1-2) at Maryland (saturn1118) (2-1)
FCS-SE at Clemson (PDaaaaaveT) (3-0)
VT (Jaybee1200) (2-1) at UNC (BigCountry2117) (2-0)
UCF (1-1) at BC (Akwatic) (0-2)
WFU (scooterncst8) (2-0) at FSU (stokedgecko) (2-0)
ECU (1-2) at NCSU (Freeloader007) (1-2)
Miami (nym410) (2-0) at Texas A&M (2-0)

Off Week:
Duke (3-0)
UVA (2-1)

ACC Previews:
#24 VT (Jaybee1200) (2-1) at UNC (BigCountry2117) (2-0) [Regional TV Coverage]
Virginia Tech tries to right the ship this week as they head to Kenan to take on the undefeated Tar Heels. The Tar Heels should be excited to come back home after beating Rutgers last week 31-21. Both teams play very good defense and neither offense is ranked in the top 50 of the country. With a win, UNC can knock VT out of the top 25 and make a case to the pollsters for thier place in the rankings.

#22 Miss. St. (3-0) at GT (hey now 79) (3-0) [National TV]
What to watch for:
** How Mississippi States 45th ranked rushing defense handles the #1 rushing offense in the country.
** Turnovers could be a big story in this game as Miss St. is ranked 5th and GT is ranked 2nd in the country in turnover differential.
ACC Impact:
Georgia Tech's next two games are against Duke and FCS-East, both games are at home. If GT can take care of Miss St. expect them to be 6-0 heading into a huge game in week 8 at Clemson.

#18 WFU (scooterncst8) (2-0) at FSU (stokedgecko) (2-0) [National TV]
Wake Forest brings their stingy defense this week into the unfriendly confines of Doak Campbell Stadium as they take on FSU in a nationally televised ACC game. FSU is ranked #1 in total defense, WFU is ranked #2. FSU is coming off of their 2nd straight game against a FCS opponent and should be looking to play with emotion as they meet their first real test of the season. FSU CB P. Robinson is injured for this game, his absence could play a role in this meeting as he has been a shutdown corner for Bobby Bowden. WFU increased the ranking this week to #18 in the nation, with a win they could crack into the top 15 as they head back to Winston-Salem next week to play Navy.

Selected Top 25 Action:
#15 Florida (1-1) at #16 Tennessee (2-0)
Florida suffered a stinging loss at home last week to Miami (17-24). They will certainly come out energized to meet their first SEC opponent in Tennessee. Tennessee's opponents to date are a combined 0-5 but expect UT to come out and play well as they look to start the SEC with a win.
#1 Georgia (3-0) at #13 Arizona State (3-0)
Georgia heads out west to take part in this SEC-PAC10 matchup. ASU is looking to crack into the top 10 this season, while Georgia will be out to prove that last weeks 25-14 win at South Carolina was no fluke and this Georgia team is a legitimate #1.

On 2nd and 8, Greco drops back and passes a short throw to tight end Corey Rabazinski. All American BC linebacker Brian Toal stops Rabazinski inches short of the first down marker with a big hit, which strains the tight end's pectoral and sends him to the locker room. Team staff estimates Corey will be back in the 2nd half. After one quarter of play, Boston College and Central Florida are scoreless.

GT wins a 28-14 nail biter over #22 Miss State in Atlanta. I felt like I was sitting in my LTR seats at the Carter watching the Pack play when I fumbled into the endzone from one yard out to ice game...with 1 min to go and up 21-14. Miss State proceeded to drive the ball all the way down to around the 15 yard line for one final play....a 90+ yard pick six as time expired for the Jackets! Final 28-14

BC returns the 2nd half kickoff to the 38 yard line. They drive downfield for a few series but are stopped. A 57 yard wind-affected FG attempt by the Eagles is very wide to the right, though long enough. Still a 7-7 tie as the Knights regain possession. The weather has not let up all game. I'm glad I'm comfortably here in the pressbox.

BC uses a relentless running attack to push the ball downfield while eating away at the clock. They reach the UCF 30 yard line before time expires. Its a 7-7 deadlock after 3 quarters of action.

NCSU 42
ECU 6

NC State's offensive success continued this week as they put up 42 points on the East Carolina Pirates, 28 in the first half. ECU didn't have an answer for the running game led by Jamelle Eugene. Eugene had 142 yards on 22 carries and 3 touchdowns, showing that he has fully recovered from his injury earlier in the year. Andrew Evans contributed 4 receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown for the Wolfpack.

"It was nice to jump out early in this game and get the crowd into the game," Coach Tom O'Brien said after the game. "The Pirates always play us tough, so it was nice to get that early lead and control field position." Andre Brown, returning punts this year with the emergence of Eugene, averaged 33.3 yards a punt return to ensure that the Wolfpack started their offensive drives in their opponents territory.

On the defensive side of the ball, Jeremy Gray had 7 tackles and 1 INT, while Alan-Michael Cash and Willie Young each recorded a sack. The Wolfpack defense limited the Pirate offense to 36 yards on 21 carries. The defensive showing by the Wolfpack was their best of the year helping with the lopsided victory.

Patrick Pinkney, QB for the Pirates, had a solid game going 16 for 20 for 136 yards and the 1 INT. Zack Slate contributed on the defensive side of the ball with 4 tackles and 1 INT.

The Wolfpack stay at home for the upcoming week to face the South Florida Bulls while the Pirates travel back to Greenville to face the Houston Cougars.

Late in the 3rd quarter and early in the 4th, a 9 play, 2 minute 39 second drive for 68 yards capped off by a 5 yard option run touchdown by running back Josh Haden gives the Eagles a 14-7 advantage with 3:44 to play in the 4th. With the steady precipitation throughout the game, a 7 point deficit is difficult to make up.

Greco, determind to prove your friendly analyst wrong, begins to drive into Boston College territory. Unfortunately for Greco, redshirt junior defensive end Allan Smith decides to tackle him and break his toe, adding to the list of Boston College-caused injuries on the season

Greco completes a clutch 19 yard completion on 3rd down for a 1st and Goal situation for the Knights, at the Boston College 7 yard line. UCF needs 7 points to tie the game at 14.

BC retardedly takes Corso's advice on which defensive play to run, and leaves a wide open slot receiver for a touchdown. Yo. 14-14 with 58 seconds left. UCF about to kick off

AND WE'RE HEADED TO OVERTIME

BC's offense stalls in double overtime but they manage to get 3 points.

UCF takes over, gets stuffed for a 2 yard loss on first down. 2nd and 12 from the 27.

3rd down is a ~15 yard pass that the receiver should've caught, but the drop brings up 3rd and 12.

a 3rd down defensive call of 3-5-3 double outs double covers UCF's 2 wideouts and leaves the slot single covered. Greco foolishly passes to the left wideout and has the pass swatted away, bringing up a 4th and 12 situation from the 27. Will the Knights make the 44 yard field goal in a rainy 15 mph breeze? Stay tuned!

This game came down to ball control and literally the final possession. Boston College finally gets in the win column this year, and looks to improve their record to .500 next week as they face their cupcake FCS team opponent for this season. Many potential recruits will be in attendance next week for the game against the FCS opponent, including the #3 halfback in the nation, Gavin Gant (i'm a fucking winner), for whom no other ACC schools are in his top 8.

We spoke with Jeff Jagodzinski after the game:

Reporter: "Coach, how did you keep your guys focused for such a long game?"

Coach Jagodzinski: "Well you know we just had to keep fighting. These Florida pricks are tough I tell ya, but we got the best of those cocksuckers in the end."

Coach Jagodzinski was fined by the NCAA but he is expected to appeal the decision.

Next week for Boston College:

A home game versus the FCS East Warriors. The Warriors are a modest D- overall with a minimal D- offensive rating and a suspect D- defense rating. Corso and Herbstreit have yet to pick a winner in this game, but I'll go out on a limb and predict Boston College gets back to .500.
