ddf583: Any way that I try to word a response I fear is just going to come off as more I've-read-the-books-fan girl squeals. I agree Godric's life on the show was too short lived. All I'm asking/hoping for is after the emotional scene from ep9, we get a little bit more from the writers other than, "That blows."

Quote :
"You'd think, but we really haven't seen enough of Eric to get this."

that's exactly my point with my rant towards the top of the page 20, and the now continued discussion of it.

I think his point is that you seem to have a well above average interest in seeing this Eric/Sookie thing materialize because it got you off so hard in the books.....basically.

However, the viewer, which is all HBO gives a shit about isn't really all that interested nor cares about Eric's feelings of loss from losing his maker who although seemed like a good addition to the cast, lasted all of about 2 episodes and there wasn't shit for an impression made....we didn't even have time to be invested in his character.

^I agree that Godric's run in the series was short, but I disagree that it was irrelavent. From a character development standpoint, I think it was crucial.

Godric's epiphany (or whatever you want to call it) and eventual suicide shows us a vampire feeling guilt, remorse, sadness, faith, and happiness; thus showing the viewer vampires' "humanity" if you will, and allows us to relate to them further. We hadn't seen that type of humanity in any vamp character but Bill.

As previously discussed, it also blew Eric's character way out of the viewer's comfort zone. Just when they rope you in thinking he's nothing but apathetic, manipulative, and heartless, they make you pity him and sympathize with him (we've all lost someone we love). That vulnerability was crucial to his character if he is to remain as a main focus of the plot, otherwise we'd get bored of him. For the same reason, it was important that we understood how Eric became a vampire just as we learned about Bill. We now know he was once human and was able to feel love, friendship, etc.

All that being said, while they probably could've executed a little better I'm glad they did it. Just my $.02

...
imaybe he's trying to cockblock the wedding? i seriously hope not, that'd be a stupid direction to take the show."

A big part of the second season revolved around Godric being kidnapped by the Fellowship of the Sun, and we knew nothing about either of them before the season started. A lot of stories start with something happening and then the whys, who's, etc. being revealed after the fact. So no, nothing weird about that at all.

And maybe Bill isn't as insignificant as we may think. He obviously had no problem going to the queen. And she knew him, maybe had some sort of history with him. I doubt she knows every vampire in her territory.

i'm assuming the last part was a joke. I mean, Sookie didn't even say yes until after Bill had been kidnapped. And while Eric is interested in her, that would be retarded. I don't think he care's much about weddings and holy unions of the undead and humans. I don't think them being married would make any difference to him than them being together now.

I doubt it was Eric. He told the queen he would take care of Bill himself, I just think that would be to obvious to leave it as the cliff hanger. Then again, the writing hasn't been amazing, and a lot of stuff has been somewhat predictable.

i feel like we at least had an idea of what the FoTS was before they recruited jason. (newlin's dad being a bit of a nutjob and then being murderered.)

last part wasn't a joke. maybe eric knew of bill's intentions to marry sookie and thought to himself "gee, i'd really like to tap that" but sookie is too much of a goody goody to let that happen post marriage. (eric's cockblocking wouldn't be because he was against marriage) the queen talked about sookie being more than human as did maryanne so maybe eric's interest in her spiked because of that. i don't know if that's enough for him to kidnap bill though.

like i said, i hope it's not something so stupid.

also the show needs to deliver an episode where vampires just go batshit crazy and ruin people.

Good Lord people. True Blood's a cool show. People + vampires + violence/death + orgies = cool.

You damn women bickering about what's gonna happen next or talking about why you don't like so and so being a couple =

Enough already!

I was a little disappointed with the finale.

I love the show but the finale didn't leave me on the edge of my seat wanting more immediately. In that regard, it failed.

None of the HBO shows finished their seasons well, IMO.

ehh, we know just as much about werewolves on the show as we did FoTS before this season. And they've been mentioned often, I believe since the very first episode. It's time to bring a werewolf into the picture, whether it be a full on plot or just some random attack.

i was so disappointed in the finale. the only good stuff to me was the whole sacrifice part....the rest, not so much. im glad that they set things up for next season but i was really expecting more.

Season 2 ended like shit all they did was try to setup for the new season. Mary Ann's demise was disappointing. I rewatched the last season of Dexter and appreciated how everything was tied up at the end of the season.

so fucking true. could have been way cooler and over the top, but instead it just kind of fizzled on it's way to the finish line.

it was pretty weak how they wasted a whole season on Maryann and then killed her off in the first 30 minutes of the finale

I always thought the hunter-prey relationship between humans and vampires was a strong enough device to work a plot, is all. I'm never convinced of exactly why vampires and werewolves hate each other every time.

Not sure what it is about vampires, but they've always been my favorite fantastic monster. I can't stand some treatments of them.
