Was there ever any suggestion that we should defer to the UN?

I don't understand why this should be mutually exclusive. We need to work with the UN in order to bring in the sheer number of ships required to patrol the area. However, in this particular situation, these were American citizens and an American vessel; it is within our legal jurisdiction to deal with it how we see fit.

It was something Hollywood could have scripted: three sharpshooters on the fantail of a destroyer, wearing night vision goggles as dusk settled over the sea, each drew a bead on one of the three teenage pirates standing 100 feet away in a pitching lifeboat aiming weapons at a bound Phillips.
The snipers shot as one, and all three pirates fell dead simultaneously. Phillips was unscathed."

^Ports along the way do not allow it....the only way armed security is allowed is if they board offshore and get off before they enter the ports....although technically not against the the UN rules, it is in a gray area.

how exactly has my tune changed?

my opinion has always been that the government has been, is, and will continue to tap people of interest with or without a warrant

my opinion has also always been that all the rich power hungry politicians are basically the same, regardless of their party, or their skin color, or how much they stutter or speak well

so please enlighten me on how exactly my tune has changed one iota

if anything has changed it would probably be the Obama supporters' opinion of Obama...only the evil Bush would do something this shady, Obama is way too honest and pure right?

It sounds to me like moron is mad at Obama for supporting, and extending, Bush's evil policy, and he's projecting his anger at Obama towards me

I'm still wondering how my tune has changed one single bit

Seems like Obama is the one who has changed his tune, 180 degrees at that, from all his campaign rhetoric, to furthering Bush's policies

But blame me instead of Obama, after all, its much easier to hate on me than to hate on Obama

I've said many times anyone who even RUNS for President, let alone wins, is a rich power hungry politician...thats kind of why I don't vote?

But please, question MY credibility and continue to divert the topic away from your favorite politician Obama continuing the same old government as usual policies that your least favorite politician Bush put in motion

The fact that you're somehow calling me out for this instead of putting any blame on Obama is quite telling about you

My stance on wiretapping has never changed...nor has my stance on high level politicians being corrupt and power hungry...which is why I called you out for lying about me supposedly "changing my tune"

Just face it...you are so upset that Obama is continuing Bush's wiretapping that you need SOMEONE to blame, and you obviously can't blame Obama because he is infallible, so you blame me

I simply felt the need to remind whoever was interested that just because you say different things during your campaign, and look different than past presidents, doesnt mean you're any different from them...when I said that during the campaign though, it was obviously because I'm a racist and a partisan hack, not because...Obama IS just the same as any other politician...

But please, continue to ignore Obama's stance on this issue and make this about me...cause I'M the partisan hack, not you right? How come you haven't even addressed Obama's stance on this? All you've done is focus on me...sounds like you're being willfully ignorant to Obama being just another politician

If you want to continue to pick on me, thats perfectly fine, but do it in another thread...this thread is about Obama's credibility, something you have yet to address since my post at 4:32pm

I'm sorry man but you're out of your element if you think you've got any license to bitch when you can't bother showing up to the polls. That's the basic idea this country was founded on, and here you're going to lecture everyone else who actually bothered to voice their opinion by heading out on election day. How the fuck are you going to call anyone else in this thread a hyprocrite, you're like the little fat kid on the basketball team who criticizes every play by the star player - who cares what you think if you're riding the bench

What exactly am I bitching about? If anything I'm saying "I told you so" but it seems like you guys aren't trying to hear it...you'd rather make this about me, than Obama

And how can I NOT call people hypocrites when they give Bush the constant 3rd degree about this, but so far, (most of you) have yet to give Obama any criticism about this? Yet I'M the hypocrite?

I choose to voice my opinion by not voting...do I want to get stabbed or shot? Hmm, I'll take neither. No, you can't bitch unless you choose one!

Again, fat kid on the bench analogy. It doesn't really matter that you 'told everyone so' because you didn't utilize your own constitutional rights - I wouldn't be saying anything at all to you if you said you went out and wrote "fuck obama" as a write-in on the ballot, but you didn't vote for ANYTHING, that's the WORST thing you could do

So about Obama's decision to further wiretapping...anyone care to comment on that? I didn't think so, lets just talk about TreeTwista, its so much easier than acknowledging that Obama is perpetuating the Patriot Act

(Most of) you guys can't even MENTION how you feel about Obama doing this, you are too busy ganging up on me...its ok though, its pretty damn obvious that you guys are pissed at Obama and I'm the whipping boy for it...one day maybe you'll wake up but I won't rush you

Its good to see nothing has changed in TSB

Keep thinking of me as the evil redneck conservative though...its much easier than to think of me correctly as the person skeptical of politics...cause then all your cliche partisan arguments are completely null and void

You could start by addressing the article that xvang posted...that would be a start...

or you could just continue to ignore that, and instead continue to troll me, either way, your choice

so far wlb420 is the only person I've noticed thats approached the article with ANY type of rationale...he is actually pissed at Obama for this...as opposed to just ignoring it and trolling me...I guess he actually cares more about Obama's policies than TSB trolling

Its kind of funny that the same thing many of you accuse me of doing in TSB (trolling, getting off topic, personal attacks, etc) are the EXACT same things you guys are doing right now...after all, its easier than acknowledging that Obama isn't perfect

better yet, you guys always say i blindly defend Bush...what exactly are you doing now by not even addressing the issue at hand?

You maintain that reading comprehension is a severe weakness of yours...I have already addressed the topic infinitely more than you by pointing out that "meh, another politician, same old bullshit"...thats not addressing the topic much, but its more than your "not addressing the topic at all"

I continue to maintain that warrantless wiretapping has been, is, and will continue to happen regardless of who is in power...is it a good program for the government to have? It doesn't matter to me, because it is a "program" that the government has and will continue to have...whether its Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, etc...doesn't matter...my stance hasn't changed one single bit, despite your inability to read my posts

And I addressed the article by pointing out, and maintaining my stance, about politicians lying, being corrupt and power hungry, and doing whatever they want once they're elected...you keep calling me a hypocrite, but you still have yet to address this...like I said, wlb420 is the only person / longtime Obama supporter to actually address (although concisely) the article

Why don't you try something moron...why don't you try actually giving your thoughts and feelings on the article, instead of continuing to divert the topic by fucking with me? How bout you try that for once on this page? You seemed to have such a strong opinion on the Patriot Act when Bush was in office...I have always been quite indifferent and apathetic about it, but you have always been passionate about it...I CONTINUE to be indifferent...yet you refuse to even address it since this time it isn't Bush holding the reigns

TreeTwista,

I wouldn't expect an answer to that question. You wont see a passionate objection of the Obama admin comming from moron. I'm sure, in the abstract, he disagrees with what Obama is doing. But his emotional attachment wont let him get angry about it the same way he did when Bush was the one expanding executive power.

Personally, I disapproved of it when Bush did it. I disapprove of it when Obama does it. Its easier when you don't confuse politicians with your "friends" or see them as "inspirations".

Okay moron - I didn't vote for Bush (either time), I didn't support warrantless wiretapping (in fact, I've been vehemently against it the whole time). And I vote - every single election. And I'm pissed - although not terribly surprised by Obama, either.

So how about it? Are you actually going to pony up a response to the article, or are you going to sit here and act like everyone who has a problem with this must be a partisan hack?

Where am I acting like this? I didn't come remotely close to saying this. Twista however is obviously a partisan hack, evident in the massive disparity in his response on this issue from Bush to Obama. I'm just calling him out on it, using his own words.

And why are you so interested in my opinion? Obviously my opinion hasn't changed since Bush was doing this bullshit.

But, I have a suspicion there is another angle here, but i won't be able to confirm this suspicion until the Obama admin responds to the criticisms on this issue (which they haven't yet). So any opinion I have at this time would be made without the full information.
